The Rings npc farm thread - Detailed explain inside:

The changelog for Beta 1.1 contains a change that may indicate the end of this npc farming. It says it will stop the infinite spawn of pirates in extraction zones. Do you think it is related to this?

It wouldn't surprise me, but I can only see this as being a BAD change anyways. Decided to explore the combat side of things, and would still be beating my head against USS's if not for finding this thread LOL. I find I get better results from the extraction site vs. just somewhere on the rings, but still, finding combat even vs. npcs is ridiculously time comsuming. Even as sucktacular as I am at the combat in this game I spent more time looking than fighting.

TL/DR, if this change gets implemented finding combat is gonna suck.

+rep great work OP for summarising what I've tried to for so long lol, though your bounty values are incorrect as its directly linked to their ranks - harmless pythons are worth ~20k

Edit: Thanks to OP for putting my vid in there, hope it helps someone! Didn't realise it was already up lol

Confirmed, it works pretty well, the ships that were spawning were very varied in ship as in rank and always one by one, always wanted.
Two hours: View attachment 9498

Check it out, you happen to be in Kappa Fornacis too, how odd! What site were you using exactly if you don't mind?
EDIT: Before someone says it I'm sure any site would work, I just figured if I can get a proven one I'd like to try that first :)

It stopped working for me. Only get NPCs every fifth try and no more endless pirates. It's always switching the npcs and it dries up after two or three waves

Glad that this thread helped lots of Cmdrs... This was fun ride to grind at rings, screw that "lore" reasons for cutting this up.

Many who in time finded this thread or know about it ealier did atleast ranked up, maked several milions and some as well had fun with Python in its full glory... Exactly what I did wanted from sharing with it. After 1.1 gettin combat rank Elite will be... not easy. Was not easy to begin with, "Broken" hunting for more than few hrs without any break, caused me few times almost asleep. Still thing was more fun, than mindless space truckin wich seems to be design for melt brains. The only decent alternative for trade will fall into abyss. Great job FD!

Did got 3078 claims from it, 46 mils. Rank went up to Dangerous. Too bad this wont bring me Elite anymore, but alteast im almost halfway done in this road. I was focused by last few days in only Trading, but did enjoyed my time with prenerf maxed python with rings farm.

Did looked in beta test forums any thread about rings... Did learned some facts that maked me sad.

There will be two major changes that would make this method not longer good as it was before... First, whole Heating thing... Second, Way less spawns or none at all.... these are enough for making this method not work anymore. There might be spawn limits caps, or just finding any pirate with decent bounty beside REP will be miracle. Seems things will be like in USS's, you jump in, there will be maybe few ships, once destroed nothing new appear. Of course gonna test it for myself, but pretty sure this will be like just did wrote.

Edit: Lol not noticed that 1,1 its already there. Closing this thread. Hope you all enjoyed it.

i think the best bet for finding things will still be in civil war and anarchy systems. Then again it is all towards encouraging players to move around, theres post 1.1 still a lot of combat to be had in fringe areas, the core systems are less combat heavy though unless u just wanna kill sys auth vessels

Everyone should go to anarchy systems with stations and farm interdictions so they Nerf the absolutely ridiculous number of them, and the fact that nothing can be done to mitigate the chance of an NPC interdicting you.

Better than rings™

I took a 1 week break till things get settled after 1.1 and gave this thing a try again:
Its not comepletely gone. Its like USS-es now. You go in the ring, 1-2 pirates appear and you shoot them. Then log out to main menu and log in again. There could be jumpers and you wont get miners if you go to the ice ring parts. In my tries i got 2 pirates about 60% of the time. Also tried hunting with clipper and dropship but still nothing comes close to the python, even after the nerf. I can still put on 3 large Pulse lasers (forget about the beam if you dont want to fry yourself...)and kill everything quickly. Filed maintanence unit needed (3A at least) in case you loose your shields what can happen easily against deadly/elite condas. The log in out game is boring though. Nav beacons are good too but too much flying around and not only pirates.

So this in mind where are you guys go to do some decent bounty hunting??? Im like 1000 kills away from Deadly and wanna get in on the weekend.

Damn I wanted to try this, but I'm still finishing a rare run. I guess I'll at least go where I can cash in all bounties the quickest. So which system is the the closest to all 3 major factions? Thrudd's not working for me atm so I don't know how to figure it out.

Arque and Codorain are two alliance/empire systems that are close together and close to fed systems. That where I hunt when I'm not treking somewhere distant.

Quick edit : I basically panned around the galaxy map quick in the view that shows the alliegence, and looked for an orange and a red system close together. There are prolly others, but those 2 stood out first for me. Just set up the map to show the only alliance and empire systems and zoom out a bit and pan around. Since feds own a lot of systems, there's prolly on close by in most cases.

Thanks, I'll check it out as soon as I finish the rare run and get back into a combat ship.
