Insanity becoming more apparent.

More like 'ignorance still an issue'. This is eerily similar to that 'Muslim looking' math professor causing a ruckus on a flight because Billy Bob next to him thought algebra was spooky Arabic. Or that flight that was diverted because two chickenwads ended up fighting over how far the chair should recline.

People gonna people, ya know. Its why I have always advocated for airlocks in planes. You cant behave in public? Enjoy the parachute. Better bring it back within 24h or you'll be charged extra.

Insanity becoming more apparent.

That stories worth reading,

the three people who lost it about the guy sneezing causing the plane to be diverted were removed from the plane by the cops as the guy just had allergies and had been screened by airport staff. He was allowed to stay on.

Hopefully they'll be charged with criminal offences and be given a bill for a few hundred thousand for forcing the diversion.

Most of them seemed to have jumped on this bandwagon though

The thing, of course, is that the crux of this bandwagon very much is absolutely accurate: this is a very major thing. The 'lol fake news media outrage commercial hype sellers doing stupid again haha i aint fallin for it!!!!!!' people are not less wrong than the 'omg we all die tomorrow!!!!!!!!' people.

I don't doubt that its a serious issue but I also don't feel the need to fill my house with toilet paper, hand sanitiser and pasta. Life goes on and I'll deal with the issue if it affects me or mine

In America we just steal everything that's not nailed down

In Italy we steal the nails too. :D

It is very, very concerning how easily people STILL dismiss all the concern . I am living in southern Germany . Lombardy is just a few hundred kms away . People who know that the numbers have been doubling overnight in Italy, growing by hundreds in Germany over night still have this "why all the panic, nobody cares about the thousands dieing off common influenza every winter" dismissal .

When I explain to people : "With the "common" influenza, you get about 8-10 mill people infected in Germany per winter, with about 6k dieing . Now THIS thing, it has killed something around 3.5 -4k people at about 105.000 infected . Just do the maths ." They start to understand...

Just yesterday, the attitude of my roommate changed from "I dont understand the Panic" to "I think I am not going to that concert coming weekend" within 3hrs. after the talk I gave him . The lady I am with was seriously planning to go to a 100 people in a rather small room meditation gathering at the weekend, where people come together from a radius of over 100kms...then I talked to her, on Monday . It was a bit frightening to see her complexion changing from "I do not understand why you tell me I should think about going there" to something like "pretty concerned" while I told her some of the stuff I know . But I am glad she took what I said in and reconsidered .

Every one of us who is concerned, everyone who has some understanding of whats happening beyond what the tabloids write need to urgently wake up and alert people in their surroundings . We all need to be working together to simply slow down the spread .

Because you know, if a few more "developed" countries happen to fk it up like Italy did ( and yes they did, acc. to voices out of Italy ), it can very well, easily and rather quick happen that we are...well, not all going to die tomorrow, but be in a rather dire Situation in about no time .I mean, what do people need to wake up ? Does anyone really think Italy has locked down until at least 3d April as a kind of joke ?

The problem is that there's a small step from being very concerned into full blown panic, that leads to people hoarding all the toiled paper from the supermarket, stealing supplies from hospitals, or rushing to the train stations to evade the quarantine. Fear is an enemy of the mind. People in fear or panic make terrible decisions that end up hurting everyone else.

People should take all the precautions BUT keep their damn heads cool. That's why preventing fear-mongering is just as important as correctly informing people on what precautions they should take to protect themselves and everyone else. This is a serious issue, but it's not Ebola.

You are right, this is not Ebola . Unlike EBOV (Ebola) - which is much "harder" to contract, SARS - CoV -2 spreads like flu or influenza . Which is why EBOV is much easier ( excuse the wording ) to regionally contain than SARS - CoV -2 . You can not contain SARS - CoV - 2 . Literally anyone who has any kind of expertise in the field by know says, the most likely event is, SARS - CoV - 2 will infect roughly 80% of the human population - worldwide . AND become endemic ( which EBOV is not ) .This is not fearmongering . NOT talking about this would be grossly negligent .

There is no fearmongering in telling people : "What happens in Italy at the moment is about EXACTLY what happened in WuHan 2 months ago . The difference being, WuHan literally had zero Idea what was coming . Italy - could have known . But damn, they also seemed to have had NO Idea what was coming...and when it DID hit them, we went from oops, we got Corona here to lets lock down the country for at least 4 weeks within about 2 Weeks ." See the pattern ? Making people aware of this simply is driving home the point of what is going to happen when people take this lightly .

If people still believe that facts that are repeated over, and over, and over again by the Robert Koch Institute, Epidemologists, Virologists etc. all over the world time are akin to "fearmongering" when being brought up by laypeople, then people simply have no clue . As I wrote in the post you quoted above...many people where I live still think its about as bad as influenza...while in all actuality, it kills many, many, many more people than influenza .

As Robin of Spiritwood already wrote I think over 2 months ago : this is bad . If the general perception of people being aware of this and doing their best to let everyone know is akin to fearmongering, then imho, general perception is simply stupid ( in the sense of badly informed and not understanding ) . Which is frightening in itself, considering that whole desaster is rolling for like 3 months now .

We don't have reliable data to support that it kills "many, many, many more people than influenza." I'd go so far as to say it's slightly more deadly to certain age groups, and seems to be more likely to achieve community spread which means the number will ultimately be a little higher than influenza, but that's about as far as I can go with you there. As far as I'm concerned, that kind of reasoning is actually contributing to the spreading of unhelpful panic and fear-mongering. Even looking at China, as much as they can be trusted to tell the truth, the numbers don't even come remotely close to validating your prognostication.

This is happening, but it's not the end of the world. Limit contact with other people as much as possible, have a staycation instead of that planned holiday, wash your hands regularly, stock up on supplies so that if there are shortages or your region is quarantined you aren't forced to stand in line to get your food off the back of a National Guard flatbed truck...and then go live your life and forget about it.

Actually i fear more about an worldwide economic collapse due to the Covid-19 generated panic than the actual effects of the Covid-19 flu.

Also, the number of confirmed cases is exactly what it is.
The number cases of Covid-19 that had mild-to-noeffects and slipped unnoticed could be much much higher.
