Nipped out to my local mini Tesco a couple of hours ago, and this does seem to be the case, meat shelves stripped. Spar petrol/mart is a bit behind. Newsagent 50 yards away... fine, says he's having problems sourcing bog roll, otherwise no issues. But again, social media will soon sort that out shortly.🤷‍♀️

Beer is overtaking bog roll here as the "where the eff did all that go" thing since the announcement earlier this evening.

Shopping for my parents today. Walmart picked clean. Costco still well stocked though, even TP, but lines out all the way to the parking lot and some pretty wild eyed shoppers careering around inside. Apparently people hearing that California was on lock-down made the whole thing more "real" to the average Joe/Jill

Edit: and just heard that Anchorage AK has went into total lock-down from my sister in law. Not clear if it's just the city, or the entire state.

Everyone being told not to panic buy and then being told that everything is being shut down. Dime bar (advert reference, google it).
12000 deaths globally from a 7.7 billion population has put the world on lockdown?

47,000 fewer deaths from air pollution though.

The dude i mentioned above managed to get 52 people confirmed covid-19 by now.
22 of them being Medical Personnel from the hospital he was admitted in and where he lied about the fact that he didn't left the country in the last 2 months.
At the time he was the confirmed covid patient #17
And now his prisoner number ?

I am convinced ( ) that we have here an agreement of the governments of the planet to confine the entire human population because it is here "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"

Indeed a meeting with Aliens is planned with our ruling elites.

And people must not know so as not to compromise the chances of success of this extraordinary meeting.

:alien:

Starting to come to the conclusion that people in general, are a bit rubbish.

The virus is not going to be the biggest issue now, it's going to be how society deals with it. Not good so far, (No blame attached to any leader for that.)
I might try to trigger the next wave of panic buying by buying loads of something random. Compost or manual rotary whisks maybe.
A few choice posts, no buying needed. I'm really quite shocked at some of the stuff I'm hearing about panic buying.
Mental. 🤷‍♀️

I spent the day at the cattle market in Kirkwall yesterday where all us farmers sat around drinking our coffee discussing what the rest of the known world outside of Orkney would be panic buying next.

As yet, we have no Covid-19 cases on the islands as a whole...and besides the local Facebook generation all talking it up and buying reams of whatever the latest panic buying craze takes form...after shaking hands like normal human beings, we all headed to our respective ferries to get back to peaceful life...as it always is up here.

I caught my wife scrolling through the latest Facebook crazies on her laptop when I got home...shaking her head in disbelief at a video of some intensive care nurse breaking down because her local supermarket had run out of fruit and veg and she imagined dying because she couldn't eat healthily....

I generally don't pay much heed to the outside world with it's insanity or latest foibles and for good reason, but was there a distinct IQ drop since I last paid any attention to it?

No, it's just the herd behaving predictably.

Be safe, be strong and let your heart not be troubled. When the smoke clears and the dust settles down its going to families like yours that pull mankind back together.

I'm sure they tried to sell me that when I left the army :D

I've seen pictures of your fields and Claas combines, so I know you're a practical, hard headed farmer. After this thing rips and tears through the soft white underbelly of western civ, the affluenza that's riddled our culture for the last 10-20 years is going to take a step back when the average Joe gets it though his weak head that there are more important things in life than PETA, men getting to call themselves girls and compete in womens sports and recognizing the latest round of malleable gender pronouns. When this shakes out we'll have more important considerations for a change...like where our next meal comes from. We've been so wealthy and insulated from the harsh realities of the world that we could afford to navel gaze for lack of something better to focus on; that's likely to change big time.

No, it's the anticipation of all the zeros that are going to be tacked on to that figure.

The virus is not going to be the biggest issue now, it's going to be how society deals with it.

That was always the case. Everyone being exposed and most being infected was the expectation from the moment it really began to spread. The challenge is to see that it kills as few people as possible while balancing the disruption various mitigations cause.

I'm sure there is a fair bit of confirmation bias in there. People have always been this stupid, they just had to keep it mostly to themselves before being permanently plugged into social media.

In other news; some US senators appear to have been so cartoonishly evil (adjusting their stock portfolio following a classified briefing while telling the US people everything would be cool) that even Tucker Carlson is asking for the head of ...

Oh No!

If Only there had been Someone who could Have Warned the Victims Before they invested, that the Crooks were being dishonest, in a... a... Internet Forum Post or something.

But that never happened....

Just starting now ?, I thought everyone knew that.

People react oddly when they are scared, in the first world they are just not used to experiencing real fears. Someone who's greatest concern has always been house prices and commute length is lightyears outside their comfort zone when told they might die and foods getting scarce.

Yeah, I watched that I think she was just very tired to be honest which is understandable.

I always appreciate that you try to find some Gaia optimism Patrick -
I’m not sure personifying the planet is entirely rational but it’s cute.
It’s certainly true that this will change the masses perception of vulnerability, hopefully with positive outcomes.
@jasonbarron & @lysan, I think there’s probably quite a few people who are jealous of your preparedness and ability to survive in your remote locations - myself included!
In some ways, i have planned for this, and luckily have the option of retreating to rural Yorkshire as lockdown occurs in the uk. But no medic shed!!
As an anecdote, the resistance to the facts is an interesting human behaviour! I’ve unfortunately had to persuade my partner at every step - eg: jan30: no darling I’m not stupid to send off for some masks (although I did compromise and buy affective but trendy looking Eco variety) feb20: yes babe, I don’t mind if you think I’m stupid for buying bulk supplies and filling out cupboards with lentils and long lasting produce. mar1: wearing the mask to visit shops is not a stupid thing to do hon.
lol, I don’t think she thinks I’m stupid but you get the idea! She pushed back against each level of precaution not believing the ‘it will happen’- lucky for me, I’m quite persuasive and after being vindicated at each step shortly thereafter by gov/eu gov announcements, she fights less now :)
Take care everyone! And thanks for all the posts here.
It took me most of 30 years to get where I am right now, I don’t consider myself a doomsday prepper it’s not like that, what I wanted was to be self sufficient, so I build the house in a way so I would not need the grid.

we produce power, we clean our water, we recycle our water, we collect rain water and so on, and we produce our food, by chance I got some medical equipment from a military auction cheap, I needed a place to put it so I made the small cabin and it’s now our medical cabin with two beds and a place to do the stuff doctors do 🤕😷. We stocked up on medical consumables and got some drugs on store. So it’s a long process, not all planned, my brother-in-law is a first responder so he is now going through it all making sure it’s all working in case we need it.

so my advice, start early, don’t spend more money than you can afford as you are in it for the long haul, if you got a large family get them onboard so you don’t need to argue with them, if they look at you as a crazy dude 🙃

start in phases, make a plan how to get there and use it as a fun project for all praying you will never need it 🤓
