The Softest "Reset"

Edit: Except I don't do mining. I disliked mining after being forced to do it to unlock a engineer. The new wrinkles just don't interest me at all.

S'funny, I've always enjoyed mining.
For me, it's a "process pride" thing; getting my jollies out of refining and optimising the way I do something to get better and better results.
Even so, it kind of annoyed me to be forced to do it to unlock an engineer.

Not to derail the OP too much, but I grudgingly admitted that mining (in my 'vette) was actually not that bad. Maybe even relaxing. But the new stuff just added more complexity than I want to deal with. Now if I could use the old method to mine the pricey stuff, I might have to give it a go. ;)

The softest "reset" I do - whch I regularly do - is that when I hit a new billion I simply don't let my balance drop below that again.

Usually it's a case of doing a bit of mining to reach a new number and then I hop into a DBX/Phantom, go and do a bit of mat-scavving, run some missions to obtain a new permit and that'll get me a hundred million, or so, credits and I can go back to doing more risky things.
Works quite well and creates a regular change of pace. (y)
Think I'm subconsciously doing that myself right now. Don't want to waste any more credits in preparation for FCs (lol), they're handy when I eventually replace my current ships with more expensive ones, and plenty of rebuys trying riskier things in the game. Apart from that, it's just a number that I don't particularly care about now.

Mats are the new currency - want to stock up as much as I can without grinding (i.e. slowly over time as part of standard play) so whenever I buy a new ship, I don't have to worry about hunting mats first.

You can. Strip mine painite, works the same way as before, and yields about 800k per ton. I find it very relaxing indeed, and is a sweet earner in a double painite hotspot.
