I figured in the online game there would be player merchant navy squads, Imperial/ federal / alliance squads, pirate squads
Some would of course try to kill each other as they are natural enemies. The clue is when the CMDR flashes up in the HUD as ENEMY.
Player combat squads would escort player traders and the enemy CMDRs side would try to intercept them, and vice versa.

People that truly just go out to be annoying (with the odd exception) are mostly likely just bored to tears.
In a lot of cases, they ground up so much credits they don't know what else to do in OPEN.

Why would anyone do all that, when you can just switch to solo, or a pve group?

The only reason for doing any of those things — or, rather, anything in a game — is because the player enjoys it.

If the player doesn't enjoy it then using whichever means the game provides to avoid that content is the right call.

That's not a great analogy as it leave room for interpretation. Obviously you consent to a legitimate tackle. But not one that takes the player's legs rather than the ball through clumsiness, carelessness, recklessness or even deliberate violence such as that perpetrated by that guy whose surname rhymes with Bean.

In other words you consent as a footballer to play with other fair playing professionals not some clumsy incompetent oaf who can't control their limbs or worse.

Unless a coach has placed a bounty on the injured player...then it is a matter of skill...and not getting a penalty for doing it!

On the topic of bounties... and please correct me if Im wrong, as I am naught but a lonely explorer, and not quite versed on bounty mechanics.

Rather than having higher bounties, allow them to accrue indefinately with each pvp instigated crime.

No expiration and no payoff by the player with the bounty.

A bounty is claimed by another player upon the destruction of the criminal by that player (and/or players wing). This should be the only way to clear a bounty.

Seperate bounties from fines. Fines are issued from npcs for various infractions but not escalated to bounties... just accrued untill paid off.

Bounties are issued by the Pilots Federation for crimes against other pilots (i.e. CMDRS) and remain in place untill claimed.

Does this make sense? Does it have any bearing on how bounties and fines currently work? All answers on a postcard please.

You almost made me choke on my midnight snack !
LMAO.

Not near the end of this one and we are looking at names for Mk IV. :D

Yeah we still have 4800-4900 posts left on this one...AND it seems to be slowing down...so Father Christmas could be bringing us a new thread!

We could push the posts up and get it up between Halloween and Thanksgiving...

This was the case, until FD found out people were exploiting the system by building large bounties then selling it via external sites (Gold Sellers).
I doubt we'd go back to it. Way too easy to exploit and too hard for FD to police large bounties changing hands.

Forgive me, my Forum Fu is woefully inadequate, will the merger occur once the poll has closed in 7 days time?

As it is I am actually pleasantly surprised I got the poll to work...

No, the polls are attached for good.

The poll in this thread belongs to such an endeavour, it's not the original start point.

I think Yaffle said due to having a poll it cannot be merged at all - as this thread also has a poll.
I don't think the open / closed state of the poll matters. You just cannot have 2 polls in 1 thread.

hmm... rather quick way to make money I can see.. couple of starter sidey's you kill me a bunch then I kill you get the bounty then we swap. I believe the ease of doing this is why bounties are capped. Bounties are not the answer and too easily exploited.. now curtailing their ability to refuel, re-arm, and find safety.. could be an effective tactic.

Here's a clear way to understand bounties, fines, and legacy fines. Somewhere I know there is a flowchart that describes this...but cannot locate it currently!

It's been said more than once... any game system that requires a flowchart is probably unnecisarilly complicated.

10 years ago, I loved games like that.

Like the EQ2 crafting system - making lots of small parts to make some medium parts which make 1 larger part - and the item you want needs 5 or 6 large items so you had to run the process lots of times.

Or the FF7 where you could make combinations of boost and have systems to make it loop, make it heal you, or any number of other effects.

Now - not so much.
I quite like Take item A to station B, then item C back again.
Or, shoot the "red" one not the green one.
