How can you counter the players in Open that you will never see?

A good point, we have rolled into specific systems with 2 full combat wings hoping to do something. Lo and behold, the instancing prevents any other CMDRs from showing up.

Very valid.

How many instances are there? Is that like a subjective infinite thing? I really have no idea.

.... playing the game as intended by Frontier.

So Frontier designed the game for players who feel like they don't want to interact with other players, to be able to affect other players without interacting with them? Really trying to understand, not a ______.

What I or you think doesn't enter into it, CG rewards are based on your achievements in relation to other players.

in ur eyes is like that so keep believe that and lose the fun

max ppl on instance is 32 but i think it mentioned that some times 12 is hard to gather together;)

Maximum is 32 per instance due to network limitations, don't think there is a total instance limit.

Yea i know 32 people per instance, but how many instances? Like 500,000 divided by 32? or millions or thousands or what? I imagine that changes all the time, but is there a cap or something?

Personally, I think its ok for Solo to affect community goals, its the PowerPlay stuff that I don't think is appropriate.
I think the distinction is that in CG you compete with players for being in the higher tier whereas, in PP tiers 1 -5 unlock based on a flat number of merits.

Understandable.

In my opinion, it is unfortunate they will not experience the rush of fighting another player, or being interdicted by Pirates. Real Life gets in the way of farrrr too many things these days.

Don't mean this in any way to be rude, but have you thought about looking in real life for things to give you a rush? It's a shame if you feel you need to get your rushes from a computer game, when there's so much stuff to do in real life.

Not rude at all. Actually, I'm kind of an adrenaline junky in real life, an addict if you will. I hate being bored. Solo bores me. And I understand it isn't boring for everyone.

Nope, if the game is to increase or decrease a Powers hold on a system, and there are players in Solo grinding away at these goals, then how can players counter them? This is Solo players who "don't want to be affected by other players" affecting other players themselves.

At the risk of repeating something said often before, unless you know that Solo players are only opposing those in Open, and none are working with them, then it's really perfectly fair. And as David Braben said recently, Solo players will be balancing other Solo players in PP.

Glad to hear it. The outdoors can be lots of fun. ;)

I could just as well source you a dictionary. The tiers are based on your contribution compared to other players, this is implicitly a competition.

if someone like me that dont even check the rankings though and do 900k-1m per day in bonds how he competes when he doesnt know what tier he is?

I bet you are amazing at Call of Duty Black Ops, hanging out around spawn points and insta-kill everybody that get back into the battle. My Son played that game and even him a kid got fed up with that fast... I guess we are looking in general for more creative games to play, not just hurt other people while hidding behind a computer screen

The fact that I will not be instanced with everyone does not change the fact that they may be instanced with someone else.

You are ignoring the point though, "may" there is a also a "may" that they are the only ones in system on that instance. They are in effect "solo" players to you even though they are in Open and minutely affecting cg/PP vs what you are doing. It has also been stated before that you cannot barricade a system 24/7, you have to sleep, you are not going to see everyone in the system, etc, etc.

And please answer this, "And where is this mythical disadvantage you have in CG and PP? What both sides do AFFECTS both sides. I also notice that there is no complaint about the solo players who's actions help you, just against those who actions are different than yours. All solo players are not on the same side."

This is a valid point. We all (open players) hope that the solo grinders are being countered by other solo grinders. I guess my gripe is really just that I, personally, can't do anything about them.

<snip> In my opinion, it is unfortunate they will not experience the rush of fighting another player, or being interdicted by Pirates.

Sorry for the long reply, the latter part is not aimed at you, I read a few posts on way home on phone and will try to give my perspective on a them in the same post. If I reply to all individually I will not get to play tonight :)

You call it unfortunate, others call it a choice. Maybe they are not looking for the rush of fighting another player, we are all different.

I have been in open a few times recently (trolling people in my type6 that I earn't in solo, lol :D), actually looking to get pirated (I don't mind that type of interaction now and again, but pew pew is even more rare for me to want). Here is what happened with the last pirate to get me https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=96666, thinking about that got me into open again :), made me reconsider.

Ran a few rare's around the old worlds last weekend something that I would do in solo with my Asp (all A rated) normally, but in open I prefer the cheap type6, in about 2 hours I got interdicted by 1 AI and 1 CMDR, the AI was more of a threat  (maybe SJA can get the AI to give lessons lol), I jumped to SC (not HS) and neither followed, It was 1 am UK time so maybe most of the locals were in bed & my ping said no to our US cousins, maybe it is a bit to long to connect us well, IDK ? but Diso was empty on 2/3 visits apart from that 1 CMDR.

Now I decided to pay a visit to open last weekend, and probably will again soon, but why did I avoid it in the first place? not because I can't afford to lose a ship (as a rule I try to carry 10* insurance), not because I am scared, (of someone else's pixels hurting my pixels, really?).

No, the reason I have been avoiding open recently is because I have met people on this forum that I would not want to spend a moment of my game time with. The shame is I will likely meet another one in a week or three, and likely decide to take a day or two away from the forums and a month or two away from open.

The great thing is I can still play the game, and do all the same stuff as everyone else, in solo if I feel a bit antisocial, what a great design feature, never thought I would use solo through betas, but now I am so glad we have it.
