Games not balanced for Open

Game eco-system is out of whack. PVP has no meaning. PVE's no reason to play Open.

EVen if there was an open-only server it would still be out of whack. Risk/reward is out of whack.

PPL hate on EVE but at least their risk/reward and pvp system isin't a murder simulator like Elite's

and im a pvp lover, but Elite's rendition is just poor even for the griefer side, griefing is boring

The current set up for PvP is about right when you consider that ED is primarily a player co-op game with a small PvP element.
 
Solo Vs Online Player Progress and Credit income

Greetings fellow commanders!

I was searching for a good answer on the forums and did not really found any conclusive answer for all of my questions.

I was wondering about if i should learn the basics of the game in solo and then move on to the online mode, and was wondering if the player progress is saved globally on all types of servers? Solo / Group / Online

Then i found out that it is saved no matter where you play. So it is nice that i can switch between modes whenever i like.

But i found some traces between the comments that you get less money in solo mode !?

This is what really bugs me.

Do you get less credits in solo or is it just a myth? Because if you do get less, i will play in online all the time :)

Therre definately is no shame in going to Solo Mode to learn the basics of the game, and get a little bit of an income before venturing out to Online Mode.
Heck, that's what I did exactly.

Before going into online mode, I made sure I already had some cash to cover 'unexpected losses'.

It would surprise me a lot that less money can be made in offline mode, as trading, NPC hunting ... is exactly the same in Solo as in Online.
The only thing I can think of, is missing the bounties from actual players, or stealing cargo from other players.
 
I think it depends on where you get your credits - if it's trading, then no. Prices between solo and open are synchronised.

If you get your money from bounty hunting, you'll find that no one steals your kills in solo (unless you're really bad.)

If you get your money from BHing players, you'll get nothing in solo.

Personally, i don't seek PvP combat, but I like the frisson of excitement and anxiety that comes with jumping in to a system with a full hold or on a kill mission and seeing it crawling with CMDRs.

Well, i am quite the shy guy who is not to do much pirating, my main goal is to explore and mine do some trading, and then eventually do some bounty hunting.
So i think some singleplayer exploring and mining will be quite good.

But i love the MMO feeling in games so i will definetly will go to open multiplayer eventually.

My main concern was that if i get less money for the same thing i do in solo then i would just go and do open multi from the beginning.

Yesterday i already done a simple in system trading run. Was quite nice seeing all the other players, and then not bumping into the dock :D

Thankfully i did all of the training missions multiple times before i ventured out :)

There was a post not so long ago, about a guy who tested Bounty Hunting in Solo vs Open Play.
In the exact same system, the bounties were quite bigger in Open Play. By a tenfold.
 
There were some player posts suggesting higher profits in Open Play versus Solo mode to generate more interest in Open Play and PVP. It's not going to happen so you're OK to play anyway you desire.

I'm interested in reading it, to see how he tested this.

I mean I can do bounty hunting for 30mins, and go to the station with 75k bounty to hand in, but any other day I might get to the station with 350k in the same 30 minutes, at the exact same location. As it all is heavily dependant on the randomness of the NPC's spawning.
Just yesterday I was at a Nav Beacon flying for 10 minutes before any 'wanted' showed up, the day before I emptied my guns in 20 minutes time.
 
Yup there are a few design flaws, but switching modes at will isn't one of them. Respectfully. Switching modes was a conscious design decision to manage greifing. Pretty thick

The ability to switch modes on demand is what will kill the game in the long run. Single player games have WAY shorter lifespan than multiplayer ones.

If you dont mind another question, where should i trade and explore? I saw some comments about it that get the hell out of the core systems and go to the edges of explored space since there is the good stuff.

Start with Alitar for rare item, suggest Solo Mode for this as area being Trolled at the moment in open play.
In Solo mode I build up a ship able to put up a fight in Open Play, but I do not go looking for combat. Use this mode to get use to game, controls, combat and many other things you need experience to understand. Half the fun working out things for yourself.

And yes much more fun getting way from popular areas (Sheep) and finding your own way and pace. Pick a direction and head towards an edge, get a basic discovery scanner and get paid for all the planets you find as you travel.

Can you prove that?
Also I can name tons of singleplayer games on steam that ppl are still playing and there are steam stats to prove that.

Has nothing to do with releasing dlc's.

it's a lie because even now ppl are still playing games like oblivion/skyrim/civ's or gta's ect ect.

Even though I agree with your generalization....Flight simulator X would be 10 years old next year.

I think the point you are trying to make is the dynamic environment that human competition creates is far more energizing and replayable than computer generated content currently.
I don't think anybody could disagree with that as even if AI were to improve there is a certain competitive sense of accomplishment in beating another human.
Furthermore, a sense of community within the game creates a draw to it and those people which this game currently lacks.

Let's put that to the test: Single player games that are still popular and still selling: Fallout series (started circa 1998); Baldur's Gate 1 and 2; Mass Effect; Dragon Age series (multiplayer in Inquisition is an afterthought); X-series; the Sims (all versions); Simcity (all versions); Elder Scrolls series...Do you really want me to go on? Face it, neither I nor anyone else want to play with the equivalent of the schoolyard meanies. Structured PvP is just fine with me. Open pvp areas where you know in advance what you're getting into and it's your choice to go there is fine. Being your practice target so that you can get your jollies going "Hee Hee Hee I gotcha! I gotcha!" is not and the day I am forced to play unwanted pvp is the day I say "Bye Bye" to this game.
 
I have started in LHS 3447 if that helps in giving me directions about where to explore. There i did one trading mission to the nearby star/spacedock (don't remember the name, but it is the one on the right from Trevithick on the map.

I am currently at work at the moment and want to gather as much info as possible for tonight :)
