I used to really love pvp. Loved the thrill and the challenge. I don't dig it at all anymore. In fact I avoid multiplayer games nowadays, period. I guess I've just had my fill. It's too easy for idiots to "download some skills" with all the hacks and memory injectors etc. Plus their personalities have seriously declined in the last decade or two. There used to be more respect going around in years past. Now it seems to be about trolling, lol u mad bro? I miss the days where my opponent would say "Good Fight" and actually mean it and even teach me a move he did if I asked nicely. I kept bouncing from game to game trying to recapture that feeling of competition and mutual respect I found in first generation MMOs, but it just isn't there anymore to be found.

There is nothing FD could do to get more people to play Open. Not unless they can figure out how to patch the human race. I know there are some really good people out there and I'm not aiming this at you, but you know what I'm talking about.

I wish I could give this more than just 1 rep point.

It's not about hacks. MMOs themselves have changed. There used to be a barrier for entry and progress was slow, because these games were in for the long run and so were the players. They weren't a good breeding ground for trolls at all.

Modern games try to please everyone, so they fail everyone but those who expect the least from the game. Players no longer have to commit or make hard decisions (they can switch characters, classes, skillsets, servers, gametypes). Death means almost nothing. They are the perfect breeding ground of trolls. They attract the kind of people who want this ease and noncommitment, and they demand more of it. It is a downwards spiral, a natural selection towards the worst attributes.

Sure there is: get rid of the other modes - if the intention was to have a multiplayer game. But that means getting rid of lots of players (and making some changes in the game world).

Personalities haven't declined in the last decade or two; games have started catering to and attracting the wrong crowd. The reason? More paying customers. It is a solid business decision, no doubt. Competition in the games industry has gotten fierce, there is no room for idealism or plans for long-term (more than a few years) commited communities.

"Get rid of the other modes" equals the death of PvP.
Three types will be left:
1) Those that just play to PvP
2) Those that try to keep on playing although they don't like PvP or player interaction at all
3) Those that keep on playing and trying to ruin it for 1) by driving off 2) ... just because 1) have ruined their game

I'll be in 3)....

Sounds like we need to get rid of you then!

Besides, you wouldn't last long ;) Guys like you play for a few days, win some lose some, then get bored. Been there, seen that. Self-appointed ganker of the week? I can't even recall how many of those came and went

i played 80% of my time in beta just to PvP. i made threads in the forum to "come and get me".
i like PvP... that's not the reason i stay out of "open". ;)

I hate these kinds of threads, because people want more people in open play, but there is a limit of 32 players in an instance. SO even if you get more players in open, it won't really matter because there'll only be 31 other live players you can see and or interact with. And there are 400 billion star systems, so you may not see anyone, ever. So how is convincing people to play in open going to matter? It's not.

Personally, for all those that keep saying get rid of solo mode? The better solution is to get rid of Open Mode, and balance the game as an enjoyable experience for single pilots only.

As much as i dislike the "open only" crew...
There is no need to get rid of anything.
Open play can be quite a nice experience and many people want to play that way.
Just because i don't want to play open at the moment, i don't have to ruin it for others (unless they ruin my playstyle for me).

But that is exactly what they're trying to do, and keep pushing for.

no need to get down on that level.
and i said "at the moment".
there are things preventing me from playing in open... but if those are sorted, i might like to get back to it. ;)

FOR ED , non aggressive play, needs some help . ESP with protection, everything is geared to pirates, and with the 'wings' intro ,Can I get inducted several times now, by each member of a wing until I submit and then the 'rest of the wing' jumps in?

tradeships ,I think should have
heavier armour. as stock standard.
be able to hire protection players,or npc....( A new career has opened up?)=missions could have 'wanted -protection for trader going to XYZ
Some trade missions should/could come with protection.
BE able to radio security forces.. AND THEY respond --in time--to calls for help.
traders join conveys with fighter wings for protection. ( would be like bombing mission over Europe ...in space ships !!)

You are actually wrong, it has all about beeing afraid. Afraid of being shot down and haveing to start all over again... But like you said, some people wants to play the game as it is supposed to be played, and some want's to sheat. Players in Solo and Group play is sheating.

As in other singelplayer games, some players like to use sheat codes to get every thing in the game right away.. where is the fun of that? And in this game, some people want's to play in the solo or group to build them selves up safe from other players, and then.. when they finaly get the biggest an thoughest ship with its utility and weapons, then they enter the arena. I call it sheating.

And lets face it, some people like to sheat. But that is not the same as we should let them sheat... so therefor FD should close down Solo and Group play so we get more people in the multiplayer, and so there is not possible for sheaters to sheat. At least make sure that the sheaters do not get to use their sheating ships in the open world.

You just "sheated" me out of some brain cells trying to follow your incoherent post. Appreciate it...

As someone who's traded up to an anaconda without rares or seeking luxury I'd like to weight in. All trading ships have these things called hardpoints, utility mounts and extra slots for shield cells etc. Most traders have been stripping their ships down and running with no weapons for too long. Man up and sacrifice some jump range and cargo space and trade safer.

hhhmmmm..... but my hauler is as TOUGH! as it's going to get...... poor lid'all hauler. not enough armour, one pop gun, no speed..........run away bravely :) and hide on the dark side of the sun

I could type up a long post because I'm passionate about this topic, but instead I will just say I agree with you almost entirely. :) I think there is plenty of room for idealism though. Dev teams, as you said, keep trying to please everyone instead of catering to a niche. They please nobody in the long run. Also personalities have greatly declined. I don't know how old you are, but people are vastly different than they used to be. Take a ride in an elevator and see if anyone talks. It's an unbearably awkward moment where everyone pretends they're alone even if they all work in the same building and see each other often.

Since launch I have almost exclusively played in solo. . Or a small private group with 3 or 4 friends. .. and in my opinion allowing a solo mode was the biggest mistake ED made. ..b even though that's what I choose!.. The fact that the is an option to fly safe while trading is to Big a lure for most people...
I would love nothing more than to be forced into open play. .. But while the option of a safety net is available. . I can't help take it.. :-(

I play Open and Mobius depending on mood (oh go on then, I might have dipped into Solo in the past ;))

Am I afraid to die? Not really.

However in a T6 with approx 1.5 Million worth of goods tensions are high, there is a lot to lose. This can make exciting tense gameplay. Fun, even.

Along comes another ship and maybe ... BOOM! I lose. Oh, well no problem, rebuy cost of the ship is covered. Replacing the cargo on the run I was on? oh that will take just a couple of hours  This bit is not so fun.

2Hrs may not sound like lot to some but if other games that had checkpoint saves only checkpointed every 2 hours I think they would not be well recieved.

Obviously there needs to be consequence for 'losing' and in a Combat Vessel that is just the rebuy cost (which obviously can get vast) but it extrapolates if you are carrying goods whatever the vessel.

I think I may be advocating Cargo insurance, it hurts to pay it but shouldn't wipe hours of gameplay (maybe 10 or 15 minutes).
