Put off from Purchase

So i have been looking at this game for the past couple of weeks as a few friends have been playing it recently, been watching youtube vids reviews ect and the game looks good i was 100% going to buy it with my wages at the end of month.
Not anymore ive been informed that u can Online/offline trade and combat log and there is a group of 5000+ traders using this online/offline system, its basically an exploit that will change the game entirely, so now ppl rush solo farm money then go combat in multiplayer with the offline profits??.. thats a joke, thats like valve saying hey when u start a match of dota 2 or cs go you get the money from your previous game or the bot game you just finished.

I can understand why such a system is in place i mean it would suck if u disconnected just as your about to finish your trade, but thats basically tuff luck deal with it making a system that caters to this just makes ppl exploit it, its common sense.

Hopefully this problem will get dealt with, currently as it stands if the traders in the game are doing it offline then well, no traders = no pirates = no bounty hunters. The game will become and space trading simulator and nothing more.

Complete rubbish that offline mode is "safe mode" a msicionception put out by people who dont know better.

I have only ever played in open the last time I saw a human player was a week ago before that about 3 weeks ago

Ive died about 5 times in that period to the same NPCs that are in solo or the same station wall that is in solo

Dont believe the misinformed

I'm not familiar with any offline trading?!?!?

However, I must ask ........... why would it bother you if people choose to use exploits? It wouldn't really affect your enjoyment of the game surely

You have made the right decision, me too thinks the game is not for you.

The entire galaxy is huge. So huge you hardly meet anybody. This isn't World of Warcraft or DOTA. Its more about playing with a group of friends than playing with hundreds of people. So Solo/Open is a non-argument. The debate has been done to death and it WILL NOT be changing. Your view of the game is totally wrong and I can only suggest you just buy it and join the thousands of other players who are having fun out there and not worrying themselves about this stupid idea that some player in Solo is ruining the game for them.

There is probably something wrong with your connection. Most systems are fairly highly populated.

There's still no risk and balance in this game is laughable, but there are definitely people about.

To the OP: if you want a single player game, buy it it's a good game. If you want something multiplayer, MMO-like or sandboxed then get star citizen instead (although you'll need to wait for development to progress on that).

pmsl. Lots of funny posts today. I was watching the forums months before the launch of the game. I had already pre-ordered the merc edition. If I believed half the things I had read on the forums, or heard about on other social media I would have asked fro my money back. I didnt because I am a realist and can also sort out the wheat from the chaff. Its your decision at the end of the day, but all the negativity never deterred me.

I don't understand I thought this issue was already put to bed months ago?

I was under the impression FDEV fully intended it to stay as is, for the same reason Rockstar is the same way about GTA5 and it's Open, Private Group and Solo multiplayer play. It's a fundamental part of the game and changing it post release would just be a can of worms. They promised it, delivered it and that's that.

If you don't play the game then you have no idea what it's actually like.
I played exclusively in open mode in every ship I've been attacked by other players and would be pirates. I've destroyed several griefers, pirates, and combatants alike.
Do not judge what you see on the forum to be the actual game. This is where most come to exaggerate and complain. Also this is a space simulator not call of duty or an arcade flight stick game. While you might not appreciate the solo mode that doesn't mean it's the only option and many do not take to it.

The players who group up in a private group or play solo to trade are not doing it to grind out money to buy combat ships and then go play multiplayer. They are doing it because they do not enjoy pvp, or do not like interaction, or have a poor connection, or any number of other things ( A friend I met playing is an amputee, and he recently lost a lot of function in his remaining hand, and doesnt have fine enough control over his ship to be able to handle other players interdicting or attacking him). There are plenty who have every ship in the game and still do not intend to play Open. You are wrong in your assumption that every trader is a pvp griefer who is just waiting to get geared up to cause that grief.

This is fine. The game is different things to different people. Since Elite isn't a MMO or anything, I fail to see how other people playing the game how they want to effects you at all. I personally would prefer that everyone plays open because I am a fighter pilot and love escorting but there is already plenty of folks who do. Sure, Mobius has 5000 members. I would be very surprised if Open didn't have 4-5x that...I see dozens of other commanders nightly, some trading, some pirating, some bounty hunting.

Elite is a game where anyone can do what they want. I would love more people in Open to hang out with, but not if everyone is going to be driven to stop playing by it.

Rares only available in Open Rares only available in Open

There have been lots of talk about buffing Open play to encourage more commanders to leave solo behind.
We are aware that traders are trading rares to make loads of money, and because the rares attract traders they also attract pirates who naturally hang out around rares routes, problem is that realising that pirates are doing this, then causes rares traders to run off into solo, and its just killing the whole gameplay that rares runs should be creating.

Basically the ability to enter solo mode is causing the rares runs to have the exact opposite effect on game play than they should !

So whilst i'm not generally in favour of using artificial mechanisms to guide the game one way or another or having different rules for open and solo, in this case I did just have the thought that they could buff open trading and solve the gameplay break on the rares runs by only having the rares available in open.

One stone, two birds so to speak.

What's to stop you getting to the station in solo. Leaving the station and re-docking in open, buying the rares and then leaving the station in solo again..

I see no point in cutting features off a game mode. Player were given three choices by game design. Switching between game modes is a game design conseguence too.

The only incentive to open play would be making the game open play only.

This is could be a good start to an idea. Perhaps they should increase a traders profitability overall while playing open. Not reduce it in Solo, but increase it in Open. Add a 10% bonus to every transaction completed in Open Play.
