"encourages" true piracy and not pointless murder.

hmm... How about this? If you submit to an interdiction you are immune to pvp fire for a set time as long as you stay at 0 throttle and keep hardpoints stowed. During this time, "negotiations" can take place. After that time, anything goes. Psycho murderers wouldn't much like it, but to be blunt, those are the kinds of players everyone complains about, yes?

Still a rough idea - needs refining.

how so? :S:S

Bounties being capped at 1 mil per minor faction and that you have to pay them off regardless if you die. All that means is I make sure I park in an anarchy or non faction related station before I go out and I'll never have to pay off my bounty. No one is going to risk a 6mil rebuy to go after a player with 1 mil bounty especially since it's pretty much impossible to die in a combat ship in this game.

There's a bunch of other things but they're buried in this thread and the dev update.

Urm.. and how many of those other professions have cargo thats easily worth another 75% of the ships insurance? Right, none. Unless you want to expand that statement really towards bounty vouchers and such... which is by far not the same. And no, explorers only count half at best, as for them it makes no difference if they are alone in open or alone in solo.

Pirates have cargo as well, i ussually wait until my hold is close to full before selling it all. Depending on where/when i die I might have to pay a 1mil bounty. Also Trade ships are bare bones to get better job range, pirates have upgraded ships which means higher insurance.

Bounty hunters can carry unlimited bounties on them, if they had a nice bounty hunting session, it could easily add up to 1+mill. They also tend have more expensive ships, better upgraded ships, so that means higher insurance as well.

Explorers could have a weeks worth of data, that is lost on death.

As for smugglers and miners. Oh wait, no one actually does those professions :p

to affect the farmers isnt bad thing though :D

LMAO :D

See, now that is an issue worthy of a mega thread. Improve those career paths.
I tried mining a few times, apart from the EVE flashbacks, I was bored to tears and made 100k (Type 6 miner) in the same time frame I could make 1 million in the same spot as an NPC bounty hunter.

If the write up on drones didn't make them sound so dismal I'd try again, but 1 use drones that take up cargo hold - I'd sooner have my teeth pulled out via my backside.

Not at all! People have been asking for harsher punishments since beta though and the only update we've had on crime is this incoming 1.3 one.

That's the problem and reason behind most of the open problems and players say it's pirates or the more nefarious play styles which are to blame but it isn't. It's the lack of game mechanics to deal with criminals rather than the criminals themselves. I'm playing pirate because after 900 hours of play in open it's the one "profession" I've not played except against npcs at release which is just as broken then as it is now.

Okay - i see, i should have elaborated that a bit more :D Traders for me includes everyone who actually hauling some sort of cargo. Be it miner, pirate or usual trader. Regarding bare bone... granted, they are, though that varies. And on top of that, the trade ship is till more expensive than the fighter (and with that i really mean fighter, trader - not allrounder).

I'll make you an appointment....

It's Ziggys turn to be the smartie pants, you're due in Mega thread Mk2 (so, tomorrow afternoon :p )

And on that note - Has the Mod team decided who will be opening Mk2 yet?
(I keep presuming it would be Yaffle as he did this one)
And if so, will the opening post include highlights from Mk1 ? (for quick reference)

My 48mil Asp with a 1.8mil rebuy is way more expensive as a trade ship up to a python. It hurts when I get taken out by a bounty hunter :)

I wonder if 10,000 posts will be enough for Sandro to have considered his considered opinion yet?

try that with the t9 ship....or t7....

I killed a couple of T9's this week both filled with palladium. One tried to fight, then went silent running when his shields were out and then self destructed. The other did the same but I accidentally killed him as I didn't see his "ok" message when he was on 5%.

I sued to be a trader and flew T9's myself so I don't know why some people think 20t of cargo to a pirate is preferable to a 10mil rebuy. Fair play the self destructers though, they have every right to kill themselves to make a point but the point is usually "that trader doesn't even math" :D

in that view maybe u r right but at cost side asp=free cost compare to t9 ;p

Graar, Distance! I said NOT allrounders for a reason :D

The biggest problem with the trade ships in this game is that the all rounders are better at trade than them. Asp is better than a T6, Python better than a T7 and a Conda better than a T9.

Traders would probably fit a ton of defensive measures such as shield boosters, cells turrets etc is it didn't cripple their jump range.
