The Spirit of Nimue is no more.

Hi everyone,

During my recent noob explorations, with a non armed non engineered Dolphin, I visited the Witch Head Nebula, don't laught at me, it was quite the travel!
It was once there that I realised the place is quite frequented by the thargoids, but despite signs of their presence, I saw none of them around Ronemar.
So I decided to pay a visit at some of the few Alliance systems around, and took an easy mission for the sake of fun more than anything else.
It simply consisted on the legal analysis of a megaship datalink nearby, the Spirit of Nimue, located in Wellington. But what I saw was quite a surprise then:

Of course I couldn't do the datalink thing for obvious reasons, so I gave up the mission, but I didn'd care about a little loss of reputation, I was more interested about the lore behind this.

So, I wished to know that if some of you had more informations about such events concerning the megaships, and that playing on private session, I might be missing some related events. Whatever you have that could fuel my curiosity.

thanks, and o7 everyone.

In the beginning of this goid narrative there was a series of attacks on megaships that never got removed. I recently found one in the bubble (~60ly from the edge of nearest goid territory) during megaship datalink scan mission. I wonder if this is perhaps from the same event.

Damaged megaships still have ship uplinks, you could have completed the mission.
I did give a try and looked closely, but couldn't scan the ship nor any subsystems like antenna, doors, turrets and so on. There were no targetable areas, no translucent squares, only the main location name as you see in the picture.

As I said, I don't care about the small loss at all, but I wonder if there is a lot of those megaships destroyed and that if there is an organisation or a faction keeping track of them. I would have liked to be able to report her loss or something like that, lore speaking, though.

Also, when I reached the closest station in the same system, it looked really damaged, and its status was like ''emergency evacuation'' so I couldn't dock at all. This was kind of interesting and immersive to be wandering naively with an ill equiped ship to come across and face the consequences of such a war between civilizations.

A couple of the megaships were dockable, those ones don't have things to scan when they're damaged. Although I didn't think you could get scan missions targetting those.

If you check the galaxy map, the system will have a big X over it to show it's been abandoned.
There wasn't really much story to it, the thargoids invaded Witch Head back around February/March and then a few months later they just left, with most of the systems falling to abandoned except for Shenve. There was no mention at all of their withdrawal on Galnet so we have no idea if it was related to the ongoing war or not.

Does seem a bit like classic FDev oversight, i.e. "Hey, that mission we gave you that's impossible to be completed, you didn't complete it! We hate you!". Rather than a much more interesting spin of investigating the wreck and reporting back, perhaps for alittle bonus..

Reminds me of the classic "Everyone, launch, defend the megaship!" "Hey, stop firing in the no fire zone, weapons officer, target that criminal scum!". They do seem to fail to pick up on little things like this at times.

Of course I couldn't do the datalink thing for obvious reasons

I saw this one on star trek the other day. When the megaship
came asunder
, the access point probably
went unplugged
.

Run an extension cord between the two megaship halves!

Then do your data link, and, don't forget your extension cord!

Thanks for your insights.

My guess was that the list of possible ''targets'' for those missions was not updated since those events so they keep being generated as pre-war, or maybe the mesh or lod or whatever 3d object figuring the ''wreck version'' of one megaship could be simplified without sub systems compared to the ''living version'', or something like that.

Also, I didn't notice those X marks, despite growing more and more familiar with those map informations, so I avoided the systems obviously thargoid-intensives, and once arrived at witch head nebula, I did read somewhere that it was one of those claimed territories for thargoids. So I somewhat tricked myself, but this did a nice self inducted plot twist in my individual small adventure. Well, it turned out that not a single thargoid gave a s. about me, and that the real danger for a noob like me, was myself, as I died twice because of:
-Trying Top Gun manoeuvers inside a canyon with FA off on a weak ship full of valuable datas. Apparently, I do have a lot to learn about pilot skills.
-Getting hooked and distracted by YT contents about Exobiology and stuff while the game still running on the background, inside an idling SRV, that slowly sucked all its fuel, then its emergency O2, then I heard a ''boom''.

I like it how this game teaches you lessons the hard way sometimes.

😂 Very nice technique, I like those mcguyver skills!

But yes, according to the state of that poor ship, it perfectly makes sense not a single thing could be still running.

Same thing with the Tenacity in Evangelis system, thargoids blew it up and it has no ship log uplink - fdev quality control best quality control

was going to check a few more missions/megaships, but all my standings are wrecked now so I'm not wasting any more time and energy on this
