Just catching up with this. Is Squadron really now split in to multiple parts, each with its own price tag?

It's not. After the initial story line is over in SQ 42, they are going to add on to it with more mission packs/storyline continuation like in the previous Wing Commander games. If you are an original backer/veteran backer then you get the post SQ42 mission pack for free, otherwise you must purchase it. This is how it was planned since the first stretch goals way back in 2012, some people are now surprised well, because they were not part of the original backers to learn that information, its not like CIG pulled it out of the left field or something.

Yes.

Old backers get Squadron 42 as a reward and "Squadron 42 - 2".

Backers that pledged later or future players gets Squadron 42 and will have to pay for SQ42-2.

Everyone will have to pay additional dollars to get SQ42-3.

Nothing really new, except that they mentioned one more additional mission disk that they never mentioned before.

Some argue that the original size of the original campaign raised, some that it was split for cash grabbing. Needs clarification of CR probably, but obviously that he will say
that the campaign was expanded even that it wasn't at all and they actually split them, when he see people complaining about the 2nd scenario... so, it makes his clarification useless, at least for those who tought in the 2nd scenario in the first place.

I don't care with any of the situations. I know from a long time that there is no dev out there with more cash grabbing wishes and focused on that than Roberts.
So I expect him to sell even toilet paper for the ships for 500 dollars each... in 3 parts too! :D

Just disappointed that they are not going to make a single player outside of the "military" scope in any time soon.

Anyway, can't wait to play Squadron 42 - 2 and 3 when released by 2025 and 30 respectively.
:D

Picking out this bit and adding to it.
All of these individual promised features generally sound great, atleast on paper. But the part I care about and feel the details never touch on - what is the gameplay that links them together?

People talk about being a medic, but that was glossed right over because how you make that meaningful gameplay, after half a dozen "drag your mates out of danger, stick them on a gurney and dose them up to get back in the fight", where do you take that profession, how do you keep it fun, why do people want to return to it?

I think a lot of these ideas sound good but the implementation will leave a huge amount to be desired, and ultimately come down to a case of less is more.

I have a HUGE concern reagarding multicrew ships.
Pilot is good profession, gunner is descent too.
But what about other crew roles? Everybody wants to be captain Piccard, but who wants to be Data? :)

NPC's and eventually some real players. I think that Elite will have this kind of feature too.

Since this thread is quickly turning sour I think it's time to cheer it up again!

Love to speculate about which actors/actresses are getting hired, and the first one made me chuckle! Sean Bean dying in space xD

http://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/31r8r3/cast_for_crs_upcoming_s42_shoot_speculate/

But..but.. CR is stealing my money! The truth must be heard! :p

Seriously though, I'd love to see any BSG star in it. My top picks however would be Edward James Olmos and Katee Sackhoff!

This thread is so strange, the amount of misinformation running around wildly is staggering, the game is difficult to get in as it is, no need for people to help.

Anyway, people with Oculus is the experience as good as the one from this guy's video?

Edit: Just noticed is using some kind of add-on, vorpx, room simulator?

I've never gotten Rift to work with SC as it is not officially supported (YET) and there are no options to enable it. Rather about this as it was apparently working in much earlier versions but such is life.

So I'm waiting till a patch comes out that re-announces support for rift.

CIG was waiting for the Crytek to implement the Rift into the core engine, it was expected to be in this last update to the engine (it would also have been the last update CIG integrated). But that didn't happen so its unknown what is happening.

They told something about updating the CryEngine that would come with a better support for OR...soon
LOL

Here's the official answer of CIG about the Squadron 42 doubt:

https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/comment/4785275/#Comment_4785275

"To clarify - there's no content being hidden away for a different release, we're just looking to the future. What's being referred to as 'episode 1' is really 'game 1,' with all the missions and features promised in the crowdfunding campaign. We've expanded the original mission disk (which early backers already have) into a comparable second campaign, and then have plans for a third. Squadron 42 is Wing Commander I, Behind Enemy Lines is Wing Commander II and the as-of-yet-untitled third campaign is Wing Commander 3."

One more for the list of Chris "Molineux" Roberts.

"Squadron 42 IS Wing Commander I, Behind Enemy Lines IS Wing Commander II and the as-of-yet-untitled third campaign IS Wing Commander 3."

... and now EA can accuse them of plagiarism, eheheheheheh.

Well, in other news, CIG has drastically reduced the REC earning in AC, made limited time ships only available to subscribers (for now) and in the same move are giving subscribers huge REC payouts.

I mean at this point they are not even trying to not make it look like a huge pay2win thing or let alone punish backers for not being subscribers too :V

Remember when CR said that subscribers would not get in game advantages, well looks like that was thrown out the window. Well like I said before the REC was not going to fix the P2W problem and it seems that CIG have zero interest in it fixing their P2W problem.

Why people did not listen to Elijah. I guess that its too late now.

The point of no return was achieved long ago anyway. They are burned already. They have no much exit, except milk more those who pray to be more milked. "Oh, but they will make people of, will lose their trust and will lose their networking"

Definitely CR dont care. He has the Oculus Rift expectation... "funded and then getting 2 billions"...He imagine that when the game come out, zergs will come. Wont matter to lose even the majority of earlier backers in the process. He wont lose the opportunity to make easy money and make more happy who beg him to be milked. Those who behave like customers are too exigent, not something that Roberts, Sandi and friends are willing to get, and its much better to deal with fans than customers. They dont require anything and give them more money.

Roberts-Sandi honest mindset: "Screw the fools who felt in the trap of low entry pkg. If you do not felt deeply, became a fanboy, a subscriber or a person with pokemon complex, as well as worked for him as his PR machine after that, please, meet my boot".

Its called "celebrity complex", typical of people who spent a long time working in Hollywwod. There is no such thing of "customer satisfaction", "customer trust","customer", for people like them.
What exists are "fans", and they, not the game, are the celebrities. Who does not fit in the scenario never will feel welcome for too long.

Are they wrong? Can they be succesful this way?

Yes. They can be monetarily successful this way... but will be less than they could in my opinion.

If some message is to be send, only Braben can send the right one at this point.

Some interesting tidbits from the monthly report:
1.1.0 also saw the premiere of the new ship damage system on the Gladius. We are now in the process of improving that system and bringing it across to the other ships in the game. We are not stopping there however! Our engineering team is currently in the process of updating the actual system by which we apply damage and moving to a physically based system for the application of damage. What this means is that rather than each projectile (energy or ballistic) having a prescribed damage value against shields, hull plating, or components we are actually going to base the damage off the mass, velocity, and density of the projectile. Likewise on the ships we will be expanding the materials and the properties of their hull plating and shields to react in a proper way to the physical characteristics of the rounds impacting them. It is a very exciting change and one that we hope to be releasing in the near future, soon™.

I don't know where you get this but last spring it was very clear that Subscribers would get Test Pilot Badges which would allow them to fly ships for a week. That was in the spring of 2014. So nothing new again.
