The Star Citizen Thread v 3.0

One of the early backers for star citizen, bought a lot of ships, sold almost all of them when I saw where the game was going. About a month ago I bought a new GPU, mostly to play DCS A-10C and some of the other modules. Also played Elite a couple of times, great flightmodel, loads of fun! Last week I decided to download and play arena commander. Well, just terrible, terrible ... What an incredible dissapointment! Don't feel like recalling, describing everything I felt was bad about the game. Anyway, it has given me that much more apprecation for what FD has managed to accomplish with ED.

What exactly is the point of linking a 2 year old propaganda video as a response to a critical post?

I wish FD would make it mandatory to actually include text in your post in order to limit these "advertising bot" posts littered all over this thread.

As we not seeing to much from the actual game,in a weird way seems to me that this "hype" videos from CIG and from the fans atm making more harm then good for the SC overall. It was a great at the beginning but now when harsh reality slap's in the face they can just produce more anger and betrayed feeling in the eye's of the final customer who expecting that dream state to be real and projected into the game-play of the SC.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
This thread has been humming along nicely for some time now with most everyone being cool to one another and not fighting. Let's keep it that way.

Edit: Please no image or video only replies as well.

Ok, public service announcement over carry on! :)

Curiously lacking in any concrete release date information. IIRC the FPS module was meant to be released in April? And that social/planetside stuff was meant to be released soon too (after originally slipping from an announced April 2014). It's now well into June and there's still no indication that they're anywhere close to release.

There's no way in hell they're going to release Squadron 42 this autumn at this rate.

I want to burn all of the script, art and models of the reliant. It's the ugliest ship that was ever released by CIG. It's shapes are ugly, it looks unrealistic and even the concept art paintjob is horrible.

The wings look awkward, the cockpit has a very big, plain and flat window. Somehow even the engines look ugly to me.

Sorry for my anger.

About controller balance (transcript from Reverse the Verse, ep. 50) --

– [Controller Balance questions] Generally industry standpoint – since SC is still in alpha, controller balance is a concern, definitely, however it’s not as big of a deal as getting the rest of the game made yet. Once they get into beta, that’s where all the assets are in, it’s a whole game, and then they’ll worry about balancing it.

– One of the big issues right now is because not all the core systems, especially for the pu, there’s no complete key map for what they’ll need for what they let us do. They need to get that resolved first, then they’ll have to revise the keymap across all devices, to make it more logical, and so they can get to a point where they stop keybindings getting lost from patch to patch.

– Jenny says it’s like trying to balance a scale except you keep throwing stuff on either side

– Controls are going to be an ongoing thing, and it’s just getting the big pieces in place first, and then they can work on getting a better system in.

– The way you’re playing AC today, is not the way it’ll be at the end of the process. It’s part of the process. Ben says Please stop hijacking every single thread on reddit or the forums, regardless of what it’s about, mentioning controller balance.

– Overall, big picture, for the most part, large portions of the game we’re seeing right now, controls, assets, design, UI, may all be completely different by the time it’s fully released. Does it work, do people like it, is it balance, there’s a zillion and one questions to ask and answer by having us play the game and then measure it. Even in huge games that have already been released, StarCraft, WoW, etc… they have weekly hotfixes, and then one patch a month or so, that’s a massive overhaul and rebalance. IT’s a living rebalance.

Imo it is one of cig's better designs. It actually looks like a space ship and not an airplane in space.

Exactly, this is the ship that I could actually go and buy with real money - except I wont till the flight model is not improved.
It looks like a star wars one yes, but still a lot better than usual RSI "space planes".

It is one of the few Star Citizen designs I like. I do not mind it being inspired by the B-Wing. Nothing wrong with that.
I do wish some more of the ED ships had moving parts, like the Imperial ships. Would fit in with the lore and the prequels.
Currently only the Diamondback has something going on when it docks.

What I do think is wrong with the Reliant is that it is being labeled a mini hauler. There is very little hauling to do with such a small ship. It would have been perfect as a combat ship / bounty hunter with a few holding cells for prisoners.

I also feel the cockpit should have rotated with the rest of the fuselage.

Someone created a video of all the flyable ships in Arena Commander:

You will probably be able to swap in a couple of holding cells. Trouble is you have to crouch through that area when it's in flight so maybe it's not very humane... But from memory Slave I had similarly cramped cells so eh.

Here's a video of the transition:

Also I think you guys are exaggerating a little. Some of the smaller ones might look like planes, but everything else? Not really. Freelancer? Constellation? Hull Series? Starfarer?

Well yea, but to me there are lots of "plane like" designs among small ships. (of course I know we will be flying on planets too). M50, 300serie, Gladius, Avenger (plane like but still quite beautiful), even Hornet and Mustang has a few "wings".
So that's why the new Reliant pic made me "wow, that looks cool". :)
Bigger ships - no, but one of em is a boat :D :

Hmmm.

People who are unhappy with the mouse aim/flight combo being OP are not going to stop complaining until it's fixed. Personally, I accept that it's CIG's call as to when that happens, but it seems to me the 'excuse' about keybindings is a bit of bluster and in my opinion, nonsense. Keybindings are not the issue as far as I can tell, controlling ship movements with analogue devices (i.e. mouse/joystick/thumbstick axes) is the issue - not keys and buttons.
Personally, I think CIG want to keep the easy-mouse controls in order to appeal to the widest audience of gamers, by making the ship controls an easy transition from FPS games, that is just pure speculation on my part though, and as I have said before, I don't like Ben, and I don't trust what he says.

So now what many of us have been saying for almost a year now becomes the truth. I said before that it did not make sense to use AC and its leaderboards to test the flightmodel and combat since CIG and more to the point CR himself said that on that side of things the PU would be different than the AC environment. Now it turns out that the flightmodel/combat environment for AC will be that environment for the PU. What annoys me more than anything was the constant from the Whiteknights on that forum telling people they shouldn't go to guns so early and should just wait and see first. Things will change in Beta they said. No one with half a brain should wait for Beta when the problems are already there in the Alpha.

I also love how the designers flipped the script and now state that the WWII style flightmodel of combat was meant for the Medium sized ships all along and not the smaller ones. All this while already knowing how the majority of people felt about the PU becoming too arcadey. This now explains why the fighters have to have more than two guns and a load of missiles, cause there was never going to be a simulation side for flight combat. Everything was meant to be point and click from point go and you would need that much firepower to be able to spray and pray. This game was never meant to be for pilots with flight skill to compete against other pilots with piloting skill. It was meant to be a shooter game with mining, trading, and some sort of exploration. But there was never to be a flight combat simulation and had they stated that during the Kickstarter not only would they have not succeeded in the campaign they would have not gotten the first year sales and would have maybe just hit $21 Million by now.

Yep and you know what saddens me even further?
The comments.
There's exactly 1 comment about that problem, with very few replies.
Everything else is just representation of their true player base, with comments such as:
The Sherminator is back!
10th comment!
whyyyyy woop woop
chris roberts looks worn out in this vid
Dat hat
Noice BMM4LIFE

etc.

I think it's safe to presume we've become ignored.
