Star Citizen TIMELAPSE - Port Olisar

Some interesting things happening. Look how the ships rotate on the launch pads all on their own (in fact they will just fall off if left alone). The station has artificial gravity but has moving rings, well watch the rings jerk and jump around. And also look at how the ships have no mass.

Edit: An interesting note, at 2.04 the rings actually jerk left and right, so they are not even fixed in their rotational path.

Flight model is garbage. Stick with the mouse and keyboard for best results. The hotas just emulates the mouse.

Maybe I'm a pleb or it comes down to preferences.

However, I found the current FM to be workable with a flight stick. Although, unless you have headtracking to guide your gimbals, this is going to a be a fixed weapon affair.

Flying with the stick was actually pretty fun in decoupled mode. I love doing corkscrews around the port while always facing in...gotta practice my maneuvers for when I harass the bigger ships.

That's crazy! It's almost like it's an alpha or something.

Ya its almost like it does not have 110 million, or been in development for 4 years 3 months, or is late to release by 15 months and yet still in what the company calls pre-alpha (has been stated that its not at the level of what most companies would call an alpha). Crazy!

It can be fun, but it's twitchy and the ships have no mass. Last I saw they tried adding IM mode for HOTAS so the hotas was essentially mimicking mouse freelancer mode. Don't get me wrong, in spirit it's not a bad idea, but in practice it nullifies all the physics they had originally promised and while they say those will be added in later, they say a lot of things that they have no intentions of doing. Smoke and mirrors is the way CR has decided to interact with the community. There's as much substance to what CR (and crew) say as there is skill to Sandi's acting.

CIG is making a wing commander remake.
Indeed, a remake of this Wing Commander:

wingcommander.png

Have you ever watched it? No? Then you should. Squadron 42 is the successor to it.

I dont know what video games you play, but a lot of games had epic video sequenzes which come close to movies. I really like that, playing a hard mission and get an epic video that keps the story forward.
Video games have moved forward and away from "close to movies" in their storytelling. For good reasons. The talents of the industry developed their methods of storytelling instead of letterboxed unskippable cut-scenes.

And then he moved back into games? I'll be honest, not a horse I have much faith in but of course, one I'd very much like to see win the race!
After the Freelancer fiasco no publisher wanted have anything to do with it. The issue had nothing to do with consoles, that was just an excuse.

I'm all for a good story in my games no doubt. Even more so I'm all for good voice acting to complement it. I'm just not sure shelling out for Hollywood talent voice acting is justified here. Particularly with questions hanging over the actual game and it's mechanics (at least for me).
The main question is how anyone could expect a good story from a Chris Roberts script. The better Wing Commander games weren't actually made by him.

To be fair, that 'lost' dev time may have simply gone to SQ42. Now we don't know if that's the case since we don't know SQ42's state but I'd say it certainly puts a bit of pressure on CIG.

However that's the only excuse they have. SC in its current state doesn't represent the 3-4 years of development, even with the notions that it's a new studio and the ever-changing scope due to the more-than-expected secured funds.

Anyway when I heard and read of SC, I envisioned .. SC, and not SQ42 so had I backed then I would have surely been put off by the fact that some other game I didn't 'subscribe' to was getting all the attention .. just saying.

On a positive note - something is happening .. so there's that ..

It can be fun, but it's twitchy and the ships have no mass...

I've noticed this in a few videos I've watched - it really doesn't flatter the game at all, and makes it look really childish.

My heart really wants SC to do well and be a good game, but my head... my head is shaking slowly, silently thanking the heavens that SC isn't the only (space) game in town.

Summary: hopeful but not optomistic.

Star Citizen TIMELAPSE - Port Olisar... Look how the ships rotate on the launch pads all on their own...

Oh gosh. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry... so I did both.

Why do the ships move around like they're on the end of sticks?

I thought it was a vaporware-scam-ponzi-scheme shell game.

But ofc, SC is also that, it was a stretch goal!

ahhhhhh run for your wallets CR is coming with his whip to enslave us into ship sales till the doom of times!

I can't say things like this without the x-files intro playing on my head, i'm doomed.

Yes, that would be more accurate. Funny that you're trying to be sardonic but in fact, your statement is on the money.

Yes Yes very accurate, i saw CR the other day stealing candy from little children and switching it with ship concepts.

That awful abomination of a human being! How dares him?!?! Someone call the police!! :<

Where is the police?!?! Oh no! There's no space police! We're doomed! We're ... doomed.
