The Star Citizen Thread v8

It does seem a bit more...immersive than other games when it comes to prospecting or at least the drilling part.

EVE: Scan + Use mining lasers = Profit
Elite: Send probe + Use mining laser + scoop = profit
SC: Scan + carefully use mining laser mini-game mechanics to maximize yield and not have minerals explode+refine minerals

The question that will pop up is the "profit per hour" debate sooner or later.

Along with the "Can I buy a super-doopah shiny mining laser which increases yield / decreases time to harvest (for RL cash...)?"

Along with the "Can I buy a super-doopah shiny mining laser which increases yield / decreases time to harvest (for RL cash...)?"

If they do that im pretty sure there will be pitchforks aplenty.

But they should really have added the prospector ship as a free ship for testing the mechanic with and not merely rely on those who spent cash on it.

Wrong. Vilification and other forms of abuse should be called out. Some people may act as sheep and use the "moderation isn't discussed" cop-out, as if moderation rules are a law unto themselves. They are not. I'll call out vilification every time, and if the moderation fails, I'll call that out too.

I did, the last time I saw an example, to this post which still exists within this thread:

"The Star Citizen online community is a toxic, ideologically possessed cult. That's all there is to it and that is clear to everyone looking at it."

That was the post in its entirety, nothing more, nothing less. A worthless comment vilifying the entire SC online community, adding nothing to the discussion other than abuse and hate mongering.

Not often. Rarely in fact. Sure, the above post isn't racial or religious vilification, but it's vilification of an entire community nonetheless. But apparently it's tolerated here because this is the "hate SC" thread, right? We should expect it here, should we? Because it's all "subjective"?

The first rule of moderation is that we don't talk about moderation.

If you think moderation is being applied incorrectly then please contact BrettC on these forums in the first instance, explaining why you think there is an issue.

It's a bit like EVE gas or mercoxit mining of old. :D

In terms of immersive and interactive (yet not overcomplicated) drilling, the Galaxy on Fire mobile games actually offer a pretty neat solution.

It doesn't /sound/ that bad, scroll down to the Mining Gameplay section. The 'Fracturing' mining laser mode stuff actually sounds like 'skill based gameplay' which I would be glad to see in ED. Depends how much variability there is in how the rocks fracture, and whether the 'Rock Energy' meter fill rate is simply a linear 'are you watching Netflix bro' test or if it does something interesting depending on where the laser is. The 'Extraction' bit is vanilla though.

(Yes, I've thought far too much about my dream space mining game, too).

Agreed, it does look like they tried to make mining somewhat interesting, which is commendable.

SEE, I AM NOT ALWAYS HATING ON SC! Ahem, where was I? Oh yes. Mining looks okay. Not amazing, but okay. Deeper than the current implementation in ED, though it remains to be seen what the future brings.

Hmm, i can hardly remember how that differed from regular mining.

I did reaction chains with a lot of laboratories and stuff for a long time which felt more like work but that's hardly mining.

Galaxy on fire...did we not just shoot at rocks and then auto picked up minerals?

Why do Computer games think of mining as sitting motionless watching a laser hitting a rock?

If I was designing a space mining game I would let you deploy mining robots that explored for you and dug mines in the rock where they found a deposit. In a game with space legs you could even get out and explore your own mines and watch the robots digging. with $100 zillion in the bank they should be able to come up with something better than watching an orange line hitting a rock

Sounds a bit like sitting motionless and watching a robot hit a rock ;) I've no problem with any general ideas for mining mechanics - people tend to imagine it's more exciting than it really is, or can be.

I wonder if they will reverse the mechanics for ship repairs.

Repair laser + Repair materials = Repair

Allowing repair laser and too little materials on one spot too long and BOOM destroyed ship part.

Skill based repair.

Buy Idris the Dragon from Ivor the Engine!

They should really have an Idris in game called The Elba.

In true EVE style, you had [random - skill% - equipment%×other skill] chance of getting whacked in the face by a big old mining explosion.

Galaxy on fire...did we not just shoot at rocks and then auto picked up minerals?
Maybe it was just GoF2 — don't even remember the first game any more — but you had to navigate an increasingly slippery drill bit closer to the core as more and more layers of rock were shaved off.

They would probably get accused of blaxploitation by people that wanted to be offended by something :/

I think he needs 120+++ faith (Warbond faith. 140+++ if he is melting other faiths)

But is it not blasphemy to melt my faith?

What will the Aurora gods think if i melt them?

They would probably get accused of blaxploitation by people that wanted to be offended by something :/

People who are offended always reminds me of Steven Hughes.
