In general, the tone of this thread has become accusatory by default. Star Citizen is guilty until proved innocent, which is a shame.
Disregarding a subjects or individuals track record allowing for complete neutrality despite gathered experience in this matter would be equal to.....naiveté is too weak a word....I ll say "stupid" because you allow yourself to be taken advantage of every single time. Going about like this through life would see your ruined in a short time. Hence WHY we take in all kinds of factors to evaluate new information. It would be irresponsible to make decisions on such a flawed logic.
Fool me once....and all that you know.
CiG has without a doubt made a lot of mistakes, lied openly and tried to twist word meaning to allow them to get away "technically" while advertising the full meaning of said words. At no time has CiG and thus Star Citizen held up the standards or expectations that it invoked back in 2012. The "Pledge" is but a silly joke at this time and CiG refuses to admit mistakes and impossibilities even when cornered and unable to provide evidence for said issues.
I d say its no wonder that in general people are suspicious and dont handle Star Citizen like an unwritten blank page of paper anymore...you cant really blame them. This is by their own making. Too often have they abused and mistreated backer trust to get where they are and I would seriously call anybody who states that 200 million dollars are a good investment for
what Star Citizen currently has to offer extremely biased or simply disillusioned and thats the two nicest terms I can think of. All too often people demonstrate an underlying agenda openly twisting and changing facts and outright attacking opposing views on a personal level.
The amount of free praise Star Citizen gets by a few certain individuals by ignoring all glaring difficulties and the past events that preluded them while simultaneously either playing down or outright bashing another game is disrespectful and offensive to say the least and at last an invitation to stoop down to the same level. While these open mind-gymnastics are all very entertaining (and sad.....) I ll refuse to get drawn in by an obvious troll and hope that others will do the same.
If Star Citizen and more likely CiG receive an "accusatory" tone then I d say thats a treatment well deserved and earned by no other then CRoberts and his company. Thats still a loooooong way from being a hate chamber like some people try it to present. Thats the same people by the way who judge this treatment
while in the same breath slamming down on either competing games or fellow posters so yeah......
SC now gets better frames than ED, especially planetside.
A bonus is the planets don't look like semi textured blobs, ohh and its seamless, having stuff to do on planets helps too.
I won't compare 3.3 to the beyond series though, that would be embarrassing
This is a blanket statement that I find hard to believe, given without context, without examples or proof and delivered by an individual who I would consider "less then trustworthy" when it comes to unbiased opinions surrounding Star Citizen. If you "want" to believe that SC is actually doing better then ED then sure, you would probably believe it without checking yourself or evaluating any proof pointing to this statement. Personally I ll wait for streams to happen but what I saw so far makes me question if the poster played ED before or if he maybe confuses official CiG advertisement videos showing pre-rendered camera sweeps with actual ingame footage from ED.....this has happened in the past so a possibility.
When it comes to the question if Star Citizen actually is a space sim I fear the answer is not so easy. Due to its whole set-up Star Citizen was kinda unique when it comes to the expected gameplay. Space Legs were an integral part from the start so its to be expected that gameplay would center around that mechanic while taking away focus from actual flying. Depending on the point of time in development this would be an understandable state allowing for later implementation of the expected space sim mechanics. That would mean very early in development maybe year 1 or 2. We are past year 6 tho with a budget that blew past its original scope many times over. This is a fact that CiG has to own, repeating it doesnt make it less true or hate speech. I m sure SC fanboys dont like it but you simply cant rewrite history.
Now mistakes clearly were made and in hindsight CRoberts had no idea what he was doing or what needed to be done back in 2012. Water under the bridge as we cannot change this anymore. I would ve hoped for open remorse tho trying to fix this mess kind of like NMS did with its botched release. And I cant see that at all when it comes to CiG. They continue to speak from a high throne openly dismissing all concerns instead continuing to claim incredible feats without showing any evidence for any of it. Until CiG owns its blanders and shows signs of correcting them I see no reason to give them any breathing room either or slack off on the criticism. Its not like most criticism is made up (a few exceptions made by trolls certainly are...). Most of the accusations are spot on and deserve evaluation. Denying them or trying to cover up these gross mistakes is almost criminal. A person who still can think clearly would recognize this even if he/she doesnt like it. On rare occasion I come across a SC-defender who actually presents arguments I cannot discard out of hand and makes me think. This has happened a handful of times tho over SIX YEARS. Most of the time I am facing inexperience, open anger and hate as well as ignorance.
I am somewhat conflicted. I would not wish CIG to fail, but I am concerned at the likely collateral damage from this escapade.
It has been said multiple times in the past but due to the repetitions brought up time and time again will probably be stated more times in the future. "Star Citizen hate" is mostly mistaken for realism and recognition. No doubt CiG made grave mistakes by handling certain early questionings the way they did (Beer4TheBeerGod, DS etc) turning those individuals into enemies which would "love" to see them fall. I have been a passive observer for the first couple of years until disparities in expectation - delivery were big enough to raise my eyebrows (this was close to 2014.....the expected release date) and prompted me to participate in ongoing discussions. At this time the "trench war" was already underway and limited the locations in which discussion was even possible. Since then I have seen a lot of neutral bystanders who tried to make up their own picture walking into a cossfire triggering monstrous replies by simple innocent questions. Worse....these attempts at information-gathering were not rebuked with logic and facts but instead were taken off-topic, accusations and toxicity which made me grit my teeth in response. The theory of a Star Citizen "cult" is well deserved simply based on the behavior shown by a percentage of the pro-SC community.
So posing questions into the open were a no-go from the start. Too all-present was the rabid fans coming down and ripping into any emerging SC discussion. If any CiG official finally came to visit those threads they already turned into absolute mudfests forcing these
unbiased moderators (sorry, have to laugh) to shut down the whole thing. Focus then switched to impartial third sites and official statements given by CiG.
It made me realize that many "impartial" news site were anything but impartial. Many simply repeated whatever CiG was harping at them at first without asking the tough questions that I would expect from news reporters leaving me bewildered while others were nothing but praise pieces often slamming down on other games or private persons in the process....propaganda at best and wholly nonprofessional filling me with disgust. News sites
daring to voice a critical opinion were immediately under attack and called "hate pieces". This the term "hate" in context with Star Citizen has a completely different meaning that it does for the rest of the world. If you have a less then glorious opinion about SC you better shut up and if you dare to voice what you think you are a hater. Thats the best explanations that the various fanboys and shills operating in this thread can provide really.
CiG itself allowed the following fall-out by staying silent usually punishing and banning dissents on their own platform very one-sided while other companies try to distance themselves from such hostile behavior. Reading official statements or watching interviews with CiG personnel left a bitter taste in my mouth. The basic modus operandi was "saying a lot without saying much" and sorry to say but I m experienced enough at life to realize when someone tries to weasel out of an uncomfortable situation. Body language as well as answers given made me think "WHAT THE....??????" more then once leaving me as smart as I was at the beginning. CiG delivered a lot of reassurance and made promises for the future yet failed to deliver any of them ultimately refusing to give out any dates anymore when it became apparent that doing so only made em a joke.
In all this I was an uninvested bystander at best. By this time I have been attacked personally a lot of times already tho without being able to come to any conclusion other then realizing that people
HATE me simply for disagreeing with them. I cannot say how I would ve acted if I would ve been treated this way and ignored by CiG if I was in with several hundred or even thousands of dollars. A second Derek Smart maybe, I dont know. Thankfully, I never bought my way into Star Citizen observing from a distance instead.
Most "hate" directed at Star Citizen is really directed at the fanatics at the bottom and not the game itself. The company receives it fair share simply by allowing these kind of responses without batting an eye and by their own mess-ups of which we have had a phletora so far. There has been a lot of good-will in the community mostly expressed by hope but it seems that most of it is used up by now and really, at some point you simply drop the smile and passiveness and return some much-needed fire to the bully who hassled you for so long.
The NICEST thing I can say about this whole affair is that IMO CiG and especially Chris Roberts are
unfit to handle a project of this scope and probably have been from the very start. As such its high-time that this gross mismanagement of time and resources comes to an end. CiG has proven that it cannot deliver what it promised and allowing it to continue in such a manner makes certain people accomplices to a running scam, maybe innocently but still. If you want to mistake this evaluation as "hate" despite my explanation then I cannot help you and also have no option to change your mind.
Yeah, the "SC's failure will doom the industry" is just another angle to big talk SC. Might not be a flattering angle but it's what it is. Theranos was a 4B (that's billions, makes the unverifiable 200M of SC look like a joke) was a medical startup with all the false promises, failed delivery and cult of personality that SC has. No one's talking about how medical startups are now tanked forever.
Theranos also was present internationally with thousands of employees
without having a product. This is also a fact that many willingly ignore when they harp on about how its
impossible for CiG to be a scam with so many headquarters and employees world-wide.
I havent looked around yet, does anybody have a link for a current 3.3 build gameplay video? The only one I saw so far is from FTR which shows improved FPS but judging what I was able to see "better performance then ED" makes me wonder if I missed something obvious because the lag and stutters in an almost empty environment without any other players really is "LOL"
