The Star Citizen Thread v9

Just a placeholder. NEW and IMPROVED flight model is just around the corner.

A phrase that sums up SC development in a nutshell. They hired a guy with a deep interest in flight engines, spent, what, three/four years trying to make it work, fired/parted company with said guy (possibly after Chris Roberts had actually played the game and realised how bad it was), binned his work and promoted his apprentice to rework the flight model, and now, after what will be seven years into development when it comes online, arguably the most important component of a spaceship sim, the new flight model, is just around the corner.

Sometimes it's very hard to take these clowns seriously.

they believe CIG are going to smash out systems with loads of unique assets and enough content for 10 normal games within a week or two. It's absurd, like completely detached from reality absurd.

Hardly.

But if they DO have a tool where they can designate all the orbits, textures, locations, asset names, city sizes and all that jazz to create a system where everything is plonked down where it should be, albeit of a slightly random design then they can do the majority of generic systems.

The things that will take time then would be the unique locations that require actual work but if 9/10 systems merely has a generic location with a name or merely 3 planets with some small spaceports on it and a scattering of minor locations then that could be generated automatically.

After all, if ELITE can create a g galaxy with random locations why shouldn't CIG?

If they can create systems in such a simple manner one has to wonder why they haven't done so.
The SolEd demonstration, from 18 months ago, made creation, orbits and everything else sound very simple and straightforward but delivering on that has clearly been a much more complicated task. Am I right in saying that the star is not actually a star yet, that moons don't orbit their host planet, that planets don't orbit their host star and yet it was made to appear as simple as operating an etch-a-sketch in their video.

Well I'm pretty sure it's common knowledge that it's a mixture of tools and hand-crafting.

Those highly polished and fidelititious alien turds aren't going to place themselves in the most optimal - both visually and gameplay oriented - positions by themselves!

An now that everyone tries to login and download, their entire infrastructure broke down.

They surely have 2 million "citizens". :-D

They just need to flick the switch for server meshing and it will all be up and running in no time!

CR himself is probably pecking at the keyboard as we speak and waving the mouse around (hopefully smoeone has plugged it in for him)!

No idea, but just checked again. Still can't download anything without buying a package for $75.

I had a quick look to see what's going on - but I simply get 502 Bad Gateway errors.

My launcher simply hangs and is unable to launch the game. No Star Citizen for me today, it seems. Perhaps I should have bought an Idris? Now, what other SPAEC GAEM that actually launched, is enjoyable, and isn't a crashfest of unplayable garbage can I play?

Suggestions anyone?

Astroneer, if you allow for some flexibility in the interpretation of “launched,” or possibly Breathedge if you want to be sure that your space game is a lot like a different game, but without all that annoying water making its presence known all the time.

What? I thought the only station was Port Olisar? Or... wasn't there a criminal station at one point as well? Not heard anyone mention that in donkey's years though. Are you talking about some sort of small space station?

Agony Aunt, sorry for the delay in replying.

As far as I can see there are 4 space stations, sorry if I spell them wrong

1.Port Olisar, as you know.

2.Corvalex, which has suffered some sort of accident and has no gravity and limited power. You have to EVA through it and it has a good mission to investigate the accident.

3. Security post kareah, you go here to clear any criminal record you have and it seems to be an agreed FPS and shiop combat area.

4. Grim Hex, did not spend long there but seems to be the biggest and has the most shops ETC.

I am not sure how long any of them have been in the game.

I'm not sure how many other locations there are on planets.

I will give it another go in a few days, I expect it will be a bugfest over the weekend with the free fly stuff.
