The Star Citizen Thread v9

CIG have said that after release you will be able to buy game packages, these include a ship bundled with the game. Are these two packages an example of what we can expect to see after release? They include the game(s) but there is no need for such packages at this time, it would be safe to say that anyone who has spent over $1000 probably already owns the game.

Ahh so if I buy the convoy pack I really could get my BMM straight away?...

I love that "Download the game you just ***-ing bought" is counted as an extra.
Thanks Chris.
I'm so glad I didn't spork out $650 for a ship that only exists in a game I can't play.

Dodged a Perfectly Rendered bullet there...

The simple reason is, that CryEngine never really was updated to 64 bit positioning. Instead the assets were scaled down and now jitter around like Minecraft Far Lands and physics are completely broken.
Oh that is amazingly similar. Something to ponder, FDev went around that limitation in floating point calculations (in Elite II Frontier) by using shifting reference frames (which really makes sense in space, if you consider physics..) so coordinates would never become too big. You could see the jitter begin (esp. in during combat) ever so slightly before the change of reference frame. If I had to make a space game today i'd start by using the same trick.

It's almost as if rendering a 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 metre galaxy with millimetre precision was hard...

Well, they can tell them how to handle the matter, but the moment one of them would do what you suggested, it could become a felony and it also is so deep into debarment territory, no sane law firm would accept this kind of behavior.
Not to mention that it would give CryTek a new possibilty for another lawsuit and, well, the Federals might have a word with CR and OF too.

Yeah. Lawyers are generally protected when directed by their client to do stupid stuff... Which is why it would be highly amusing if OF sticks his oar in because he isn't in this position.

Well it is if you roll over to 0 every 1,000,000,000,000.....

Kerbal Space Program got around it by rendering multiple camera views layered on top of each other to give the impression of one large solar sized map, while in fact you are viewing multiple scales at the same time. Additionally, coordinate origin rebasing happens every 6000 units.

It does wonders when people actually know what they are doing.

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 metre = 6,684,587,122 Astronomical Units

When Stanton is complete (middle of next year maybe?) it'll be 90,000,000km (0.6AU) in diameter:

Star Citizen's map as of Alpha 3.2.2 isn't even 0.05 AU yet.

That explains it then, they are simply trying to cram too much into too little space ;)

Why a unidimensional galaxy?

Also, if the scale is an issue just do like our fellow Venezuelian economists, slash the whole thing by a few zeroes and job done.

No - it'll extend into both directions. And up too. I mean, it's a rather silly question, no? It's about volume - not area or lines, cos pipelines produce volumes of stuff! Eh?
