The Star Citizen Thread v9

I don't believe that for a second. [blah]

That's clearly an .mp4 if you look into the media url.

The last comment I saw from a CIG employee regarding how they would generate income post release was from Ben Lesnick (developer, master of ships, loser of seats) in an interview with Batgirl.

The plan was to sell the in game currency for real money to "keep the servers running".

This is well over 2 years ago.

Well, then we can at least be fairly certain about one thing: they do not plan to sell in-game currency to keep the servers running post-release.

CIGuistics is not nearly as complicated as intuition would suggest.

That's ok if the game is any good, but what if it's just meh or crap. Are you still going to buy it?

Oh dont get me wrong, if its an abject trainwreck I wont be picking it up.

Im just pointing out that, at least in my experience, your statement that everyone who might want it, has already handed over their cash, is wrong.

Where there any celebrations by CIG yesterday? With it being the 6 year anniversary of the end of their kickstarter ;)

Thank You! - End of Campaign Transition

The battle is over and we - PC gamers, space sim fans, WingNuts, Lancers and the rest - have won. You've not only met every goal we set, you've exceeded them. Star Citizen will be released because of your dedication and your willingness to put your money where our mouths are. Our gratitude is immeasurable; we owe you our livelihoods and will not soon forget it.

The question is: what happens next?

Our intention has always been to make Roberts Space Industries YOUR site. It's not a public advertisement for the game; it's a private community for those who are making the game happen. We want your input on what we're doing and we want to share our plans with you; the occasional passer-by doesn't concern us. The plan was initially to immediately switch on a wall that would allow only you, our backers, to access features like the Comm-Link and the Spectrum Dispatches. Kickstarter has thrown something of a wrench in this plan: we can't change the site until the Kickstarter backers are integrated, which may take up to two weeks, otherwise we would be blocking thousands of backers from participating.

Updates and features will continue, returning to a regular schedule in the next few days. The team needs a few days to collect ourselves and reform before jumping into the immense task ahead (after the last month, our husbands, wives, children and yes, pets, miss us!) We will also be launching new sections which have been in the works for some time: the Galactapedia will tell you more about the Star Citizen world, Engineering will introduce you to game mechanics that are being planned and Holovids will offer you video footage from the game as it takes shape.

What about pledges? Good news: those of you who got in on the ground floor are covered. Your ships have lifetime insurance policies and for the next year you will have the ability to purchase further tiers or upgrade existing ones at the initial prices. That's not true of everyone else: if you want to back Star Citizen and participate in this amazing community, you still can. but it's going to cost you a little extra as of now, and you aren't going to have as many extras (no lifetime insurance, for example.)

One issue which concerns us is what to do with the funding tracker. So we're going to throw the issue up to you: in two weeks, when the wall goes up, what do you want to see done with the tracker? Without the 'push' of the campaign it probably won't update very dramatically. but it's always possible it will go up enough to reach future stretch goals anyway. Should we keep it, remove it or put it somewhere else? We'll let the community decide.

We also have previously outlined the 'behind the screens' subscription plans available now. They're designed for users who simply want to give us a little extra support during the development - you're getting the whole story, regardless - but we will have some extra fun for our monthly contributors.

We can't thank you enough for everything you've done for this project. Please see the next update on 'The Pledge' for our promise to you. The next two years are going to be incredible for all involved and we're thoroughly happy that all of you are along for this exciting ride.

I didn't say everybody I said vast majority. There is a difference.

I'm using 'everybody' in the lazy conversational for 'vast majority', based on the earlier statement that out of those I know who've expressed interest in Star Citizen, only a small number have actually thrown any money at CIG thus far, because we're having a pub conversational level discussion about computer games, not a US Presidential Candidate debate.

3.3.5 is live

And looks like the Anniversary Sale stuff will partially take place/have events in game. Including the Idris:

It appears there might be a display at Hurston (posts for ads for the Intergalactic Expo showed while editing), complete with different manufacturers' areas. They have created a special ship rental condition for the sale where rentals for said ships are free and last one day. It appears you will be able to rent different ships on different days from ship manufacturers, with almost all the ships ingame and their variants included.

There are for sure signs up in Lorville talking about the "expo".

Not seeing much in the way of big ships. No Kraken, no Idris, no Pioneer, no Banu Merchantman.

So basically CIG staff were un crunch mode to release a rushed 3.3 so they could be on crunch mode to rush a 3.3.5 patch so they can put a ship sale event which will help puncturing enough money so they could serenely go in crunch mode to rush the development of a 3.4 release.

Star Citizen : a Schrodinger project based on turtle all the way down development process.

Their Kickstarter pitch failed and doesn't exist anymore.

If it wasn't a scam, it would be four years late now, nothing to celebrate really.

So....yeah...I tried 3.3.5 again and this time it worked...I finally hyperspaced to the Hurston and after long ride(aprox 15 min+10 min to reach the surface)I was trying to locate unsuccessfully Lorville...not sure if is it bug or what but when I set my destination to the Lorville nothing pointing me in that direction there is nothing on my radar either so I just give up and fly around until I found some unusual spot that kind of looks like some old ship graveyard or something ....All in all fps are good same as in 3.3 but I am really getting BORED from lack of playability-content also long stupid walks not helping thats just really tiredness and repetitive......

Hopefully there will be a lot of feedback about the travel times from those that try the free fly week. I was reading earlier that while a Starfarer is fast in QD travel, it takes 45 minutes to get through Hurston's atmosphere, so you have 5 minutes of static effects and then 45 minutes of slowboating down to the planet, then 15 minutes of running/waiting for the train and then you have to do it all over again to get out of there.

It's not exactly encouraging people to visit these places that have huge amounts of work piled into them.

What they need is some fast way to get down to planets, something like a half-QD mode, something like a Glide effect....
