The Star Citizen Thread v9

All in all, it just makes me wish ED would have space legs.

Yeah - the expo should some ideas about what would be cool with Space Legs - imagine FD Expo 2020 inside the game.

Though the stream I saw of the SC expo all the ships except one were missing, so it was just a big empty room sim. If we could have legs without the buggy hell, that would be cool.

That certainly is an odd narrative shift from "100 star systems at launch, 3 Alien civilisations to interact with, exploration and deep space mining"... to "Space is a bit big, I'd rather walk around the mall"...

Convenient, but strange...

Well, if you think about it, it really adds to the mystery of alien races! I mean, just imagine, the wild eyed spacer reporting that he returned from weeks in space and saw an alien. Nobody is going to believe him, they will call him a madman! Nobody goes out that far!

All part of life being a STAR CITIZEN!

The in game expo is a great idea, it has been working for me. I rented a couple of nice ships thus far. I’m looking forward to origins today to see the rework of the 300 series. I’ve had a few bugs over the past few days, but, ever server I was on was full. I’m not sure if that was part of the reason or not. It’s definitely not prime time ready. Graphics wise, it’s great to me. My computer was built for VR, so my specs are now only pretty good, versus all the latest tech.

I know Star Citizen in on free flight... yet I did not downloaded it. I refunded it. And still have a need to write bout it - I`m so hard core goon....
Seriously, cant believe main "media" of gaming still not covering this farce.
I shut up now....

CIG marketing machinery obviously is still doing a great job....free flight weekend&ship sales rise fresh 781,142$ on the top just yesterday....

When i launched the game i got a warning that i should have 8Gb free. Since windows is running and taking a bit of the 8Gb it sees i have less available.
The 16Gb is my guess just a buffer. People always try and play games with less than minimum specs.
But yeah, i'm not going to upgrade the RAM any time soon, my slots are full so would need to get bigger sticks, and at that point, might as well just wait until i can go the whole hog and upgrade everything.
Besides, need a new HOTAS first before anything else.
In no rush to get a better comp to play SC, every other game i have plays well on high graphics settings, and that includes Ark which is a terribly unoptimized mess.
As CIG add more and more to the game, i'm fairly sure this will counter any optimizations they make, so upgrading now might not achieve much anyway over time.
Not really impressed with the graphics either for what its doing to my comp. Ark looks a lot better.
If this is the game that is meant to save PC gaming, then all i can say is that PC gaming is doooooomed.
Star Citizen's outdated DX11 engine doesn't need a high end PC, it has a memory leak, that is all. Before they completely broke the engine, Arena commander and Area 18 made 100+ fps on a GTX 400 class card, the latter being their original minimum spec goal.

Now with a GTX 700 on Ivy Bridge when the frame rate drops below 50 at Hurston, it idles at 50 % GPU and 30 % CPU load, while struggling with properly streaming in textures at the correct LoD. At the same time it's outdated engine is unable to use PCIe 3.0 shared memory (plenty available in any modern PC) like other games, when they run out of VRAM.

Their whole technology is a mess - and in a lawsuit.

CIG should have a look at idTech to see a modern engine.

Rock Paper Shotgun was a website I enjoyed from yesteryear that I use to take pleasure in reading. They have become paid shill pseudo political click bait corporate greed scum. The article about SC free fly weekend makes it sound like a legit game you should get involved with.

I won't bother linking because they force you to drop your ad blocker so they can ram their spyware laden ads down your throat. Really done with that place.

Includes a comment section with SC players hurling about referral codes. A handful of people speak the truth but not enough.

What? Are you telling me that a second-to-last-gen console engine is not going to save modern PC gaming, even though scores of newly graduated junior programmers have been hacking away it it for years? What is this heresy!? :O

Scam Citizen is a perfect match for these fake review scam websites. They only exist, because Steam advertises them and doesn't allow anybody to disable it.

When done properly, it should run on any configuration of this decade at 200 fps, except for really ancient ones (the gold combo of Core 2 Quad and 8800 GT won't make it).

But they are doing below 20 fps with their crappy networking on stuff manufactured past their original release date and oblivious fans still talk about specs.

One wonders whether its existing backers splurging, new money, or a combination.

If its coming from new money, that's going to be a new generation of backers, many possibly asking some hard questions about things like release dates.... then they will get told they don't understand software development and ITS ALPHA, and then they will become refundians :D

I think it´s a bit of both...there is certainly a lot of old hardcore backers(whales) that still getting every new ship that CIG "factory"made but there is also fresh ones that possibly like what they saw or maybe believe that things is going to be much better soon....also let´s not forget grey market traders that will buy every new ship if it comes with the LTI......

P.S. As far as I know CIG do not give any more refunds or it is extremely difficult to get one....

If playing the game actually convinces people to spend money on the game, then they must be doing something right. Unless it's all money from existing SC backers who want new ships to show off to all the new players?
