The sun - a gently glowing orange ball ?

without 3d its impossible to know the size. in real life when you close 1 eye and look at something your brain didnt learn before and is an unknown shape you also have no idea how big or how far its away..

You´re right.
(except for the shape, i think i learned that one already ;) )

Maybe the solution to my problem is called OculusRift CV1 ...

Hi folks!
I love E:d for the feeling of being out there.
I still try to get in my mind how incredibly big everything is - flying in SC faster than light (wow!:D) and its still like a relaxed walk (...until you see a planet coming, and whoosh:eek:, its gone).

When i´m , lets say 149.600.000 km away from the sun, i cant look at it, its so bright, it hurts in my eyes.
With E:d we can get close to the sun.
It should look gigantic, like pure energy and intolerable bright - but it looks just like a nice orange ball
(ok it already feels like a dangerous ball, because of the good soundfx).
At best it looks as big as a planet, but it should be around 100 times bigger.

Any idea, how FD could achieve this?

make it bright, make everything else black dark.. give it a slightly moving corona. give it some tiny black spots etc. (not the fluid effect it has now)

You think about the Star, but you don't think about the fact that you are in a ship, that 100% of it's destinations is in front of a star, Your brain can't make you think that the glass is made to reduce the Star's glare?
Plus you didn't touch the star yet and you think that is it's shape! Point the target to the center of the Star and check the distance from the point your ship start heating up, now go to a planet, at the same distance and see how big the planet is and compare.

I use the Rift, the Stars are gigantic, some look small, but they are so powerful that you can't get close to them to really understand there size.
