Ah sorry it's not me. It was on Reddit.

The way it plays out is :

CMDR jumps to Duamta, Duamta is explored.

CMDR ends up in some unexplored system facing no star.

WTH misjump? Or has something pulled me out?

You know the rest. =p
Sweet: So you had a story board? I like it, could be some good propaganda to muster the troops.

You have obviously not seen the picture I took of a Thargoid on a nameless planet.

Clearly not meant to be 'real', but it's a pretty impressive composition none the less.

My thoughts exactly.

Video was cut after jump out of hyperspace // sensors swithced off in the modules (so you can't see the other ship) // not 100% sure yet what the dark ship was, but it wasn't thargoid.

Nice try OP - good for talking about .. not Thargoid :)

The PIPs also changed from Balanced to all Engines at the cut point in the vid at Hyperspace drop out. Nice try but next time you need to make sure you set everything the same before you enter Hypespace for when you drop out. :)

How will we meet the Thargoids? (game mechanic)

Hi CMDRs A 1984 Elite commander here, just wondering how the Thargoids might be implemented in the current game.

In 1984 they arrived due to a miss-jump and your ship did not arrive at the targetted system following a hyperspace jump. I remember having to tackle the large mothership and baby tharglets before another jump could be attempted. Not sure how this might work with ED, but the Fuel Rats might get even more 'customers' if the game mechanic is similar!

Any thoughts?

Quietly I hope, so its a surprise.....

I think one of the Devs or even DBobe himself said that our interection with the Thargoids would be dictated by how we react during the first encounter - my prediction is war then ;)

Well it was certainly not quiet back in 1984. I was thinking more about the game mechanic and how their arrival might be implemented. Would it be a mini-game like an interdiction or would they arrive after a miss jump (as in ELITE back in 1984) and the player would be pulled out of supercruise ....

i reckon that one day there will be a distress signal....

it will lead to a location

but you wont ever make it there......

either that or you'll jump into a system and there they will be... and if you're lucky, you might just manage to escape

I head (from Kerrash I think) that the first encounter with a Thargoid will be with a player, and their response will change the story, IE if the player is friendly, maybe the Thargoids will become allies, but if the player is hostile...

At the Q&A at the Gamescom party, DB was asked something similar. He said he wouldn't spoil the surprise. He went into to say that it's a big galaxy and it takes time to find things. Quote.. the UA was added in 1.2 but wasn't found for ages. After hearing him, I was left with the impression they are currently out there somewhere.

Maybe be not yet as a huge empire, but out there for chance encounters.

We shall greet them with gun ports open. It's a gesture of openness, respect and greeting.

Last time someone made such a greet it didn't end well...

I hope thargoids are introduced silently, without any announcement.

I also hope they actually inhabit some region of the galaxy, and aren't just random encounters in hyperjump mis-jumps.

I'm really hoping it will be an unannounced surprise... but I think it will just be in the patch notes.

They need to beta it after all.
