The Thargoid 'Threat' Is Inconsequential.

The threat of the Thargoids is inconsequential for the following reasons.

1) Although it can feel like there are a large number of players on the forums/reddit etc, the overwhelming majority of players will simply play Elite Dangerous within the launcher, having no interest in the forums or reddit. As such, some may be completely oblivious to the alien plotline that has been bubbling and their first encounter of the same will have been the 2.4 teaser.

2) We have seen what FDev's response has been to difficult A.I. Nerf nerf nerf nerf. If Thargoid ships are in any way a challenge, they will be nerfed within 3 months.

3) If people just ignore the Thargoids, what are FDev going to do? Destroy the bubble? Force humanity to start a-new at Colonia? That would be fantastic in a single player game (with better hyperspace mechanics) however this is not feasible in Elite's current state. Colonia is 22 thousand light years away from Sol. Assuming you're buckyballing at a generous estimate of 2k light years per hour, that is 11 REAL WORLD HOURS to get from our current bubble to Colonia. Casual players simply will not want to stare at a loading screen for 11 hours.

2.4's Thargoid content will boil down to the following:

1) Alien Conflict Zones
2) More RNGeers for anti-Thargoid weaponry (although in the official Elite Dangerous Premonition book, human weapons are effective against Thargoids. So, already, 2.4 is not even released and the lore is contradicting itself (sorry Drew, but I'm not just going to ignore gaping plot holes)

I completely fail to see why the Thargoid's are being shown as a 'threat' in any way shape or form.

2.4 will be nothing but hype and disappointment in terms of the alien stuff.

Game is inconsistent already, but this is not what is upsetting me. The "deep" content of alien invasion will probably end up as special conflict zones that only players who grinded their bottoms off for anti-alien mods will enter. Probably in organized wings, MC ships. Average "poor joe" will experience this as usual on YT and forums. Thats why as much as I admire artistic side of alien expansion (mother ships) I have little to no interest on how it will develop. [alien]

I think the Thargoids will hit hard, but only in certain systems. Devastating a starting players' system makes no sense. Shinrarta Dezhra, on the other hand...

As someone said above, I also think that the goids will be in conflict zones and to have a chance of defeating them you'll have to grind away - doing the same old things - for some goid-busting weapons or shields.

I hope I'm wrong but as I hear the goid content is optional...

This 'game' is mainly 'played' via YouTube anyway so I fear it'll just be business as usual.

Hopefully it won't just be fighting the goids maybe we can ally with some groups of em in systems, etc. Doing exciting new mission types and enjoying new content.
Fingers, eyes & legs crossed. [wacky]

The art is wonderful, the gameplay? Well I have high hopes, and cynical expectations that they will get dashed by the implementation.

I cannot help but think that as this game moves further away from DB's pet project and continues to be developed as Sandro's product, it is, getting worse... Powerplay, engineers, wings, cqc, multicrew, all grindy lame features, all under sandro's watch. The base game, planets, that was DB.

It's a game.

Ways of doing it have been given in multiple threads. You just lack the will to go look those up, or the imagination to see them yourself.

And the Japanese would never dare attack America, much less Pearl Harbour and if they did ? Hah , why they'd be swatted away like flies they are... scoff etc

Hardly inconsequential at all...some of us are sick, sore and tired of hearing about them and seeing them being set as priority over absolutely everything else. The threat is very real to me personally, cos I parked up and will check back in after the dust settles to see how the cards fall in this game.

Call me a cynic but Im not expecting a happy ending. Ironically the less threatening they turn out to be, the more consequence it will have....most of it negative I would imagine.

Have fun now yhear ^

2.4 Thargoid CG event! Support either humanity or the Thargoid overlords by turning in pirate bounties or strategic cargo to your respective client.

Hopefully Frontier have taken this into account. Thargoids are substantially different from the side plots we're been having. Thargoids are the major plot point; they are the primary antagonists.

I blame the community for this. They don't like getting their e-ships blown up, they can't be bothered to learn how to fight/survive and want EZ mode. Frontier pandered and this is what we have.

First, as I mentioned above, Thargoids are a major plot - they are the primary antagonists of ED. Players, I suspect, won't be able to ignore them for long. I have a feeling their impact across civilised space will be large.
Second, as much as I like the idea - destroying the bubble is likely not an option.
Third, if Frontier DO blow up the bubble - I suspect we'll have a nice cutscene, perhaps a CGI, that shows humanity fleeing the bubble, heading for wherever. When the cut-scene ends, we get a short loading screen and appear at our new destination with a new "starter" mission to get us going.

If it is, then it'll tell me that Frontier aren't learning from their mistakes; and that will likely drive me from the game. Nobody wants to keep using a program that is maintained by a bunch of developers who aren't learning or improving; releasing rehashes of the same stuff every year.

I completely fail to see why the Thargoid's are being shown as a 'threat' in any way shape or form.
Play the original game.

2.4 will be nothing but hype and disappointment in terms of the alien stuff.
Maybe, maybe not. I suspect 2.4 will be a make or break for a lot of people.

For you. For me it will be exciting, and I'm looking forward to it.

Look, you're a one-a-dozen of those who start their whining threads that sink in a day or two. You have provided no value or anything to the community, apart of the speculation and your huge piece of entitlement.
