The Thargoid weapon?

Are Thargoid's being used as a weapon?
Is some known or unknown power luring them into human occupied space?
Is the so called "war" with the Thargoid's just a cover up for something much more sinister?
Are Thargoid's really hostile towards us or just made to seem that way?

Food for thought:

Thargoid's never become hostile unless they are shown hostile behaviour (they are attacked or if you get too close).

When they hyperdict you they only scan you they don't attack.

The only times they attack is when you have something of theirs in your hull.

Scouts show up and attack NPC ships when they are transporting some unknown cargo.

Interceptors are found scanning destroyed ships looking for SOMETHING. We don't know why these ships are destroyed as we always show up after the battle.

Thargoids only cripple starports and don't destroy them outright.

When visiting Thargoid structures or bases there is no hostile behaviour shown.

My theory:
For a hostile alien race out to annihilate humanity they aren't very hostile. In fact I would even call them friendly, just a bit rude. I don't believe Thargoids are at war with us (assuming they know what war is). If they were at war they would destroy everything and kill everyone outright. We would be at their mercy fighting for survival.
Thargoids are extremely territorial and value their property to the degree I think that they would go to any means and ends to find it and retrieve it. Based on this I think by taking Thargoid stuff someone or some power is systematically luring Thargoids into the human bubble and using them as a weapon. Thargoids are just looking to take back what is theirs. We being humans have interpreted this as an invasion and have declared war.

+rep for doing a good job of saying what I've been saying over and over for months.

WARNING: I'll probably be the only one to respond because this isn't the topic everyone is overreacting about at the moment! :D

These threads remind me to watch one of my favorite Sci-Fi movies of all time...so many similarities and dare I say, inspiration by the Pierce Brosnan xeno-scientist character augmented by Jack Nicholson's President. Next to Space Balls it's another cult classic.

As someone who had been repeatedly been attacked by Interceptors without any hostile act on my part--not even a cargo rack on board, no weapons deployed, thruster at station keeping--these NHUSSes are just scripted events governed by RNG. There is nothing more elaborate than that. Most of the time they leave you alone--they just had snacked on another human convoy filled with peace-loving humans bringing them flowers--unless you dare "provoke" them by just showing up in "their territory" as an endangered member of the human species on the verge of potential extinction like the Guardians and other more advanced and noble races that came and went before us facing the same enemy. In the end they amounted to nothing but lambs to be slaughtered. To the Thargoids, there seems to be no peaceful coexistence. They are after resources and to take out the trash--I.e, remove the any infestation that stands in their way--nothing more complicated than that from the lore perspective.

It's just survival of the fittest at a galactic--or universal--scale.

The fact that they hadn't yet done more could just be logistics--FDev's not ready yet to whack entire star ports, ground installations and other assets from the BGS and the other databases, so "crippling" them is much less invasive to accommodate. It's coming, but probably not until the motherships arrive.

We already know the answer, one group of thargoids are running from another group. They're using humans as a meat shield.

And what good is a meat shield when it's not tempered and trained to deal with the real enemy. AEGIS is cooperating with the "benign" Thargoids to train the military and commanders on how to handle Thargoid ships, so we have a chance at being effective to buffer or bar the advance of the xenophobic, aggressively genocidal Thargoids.

Just wait for the "We managed to broker a peace treaty, but the bad news is, they weren't our real enemies." announcement.

It could be that the Thargoids on the run are doing limited attacks on humans to help prepare them to take on the other Thargoids chasing them to slow them down. Which of the two Thargoid factions own the Barnacle sites in the Pleiades?

So what about when u drop into a lvl4 nhss, there are no human npcs there, and all the scouts immediatly attack unprovoced?

Death to the Xeno scum (and flower huggers).

AXI

This is the only exception. I presume they are in the area scouting to find what they are looking for.

I myself am a devout Thargoid slayer. My reasons for killing them are purely for fun and sport. Wish I could hang their carcass in my commanders quarters as a trophy. After my 100th Interceptor kill or so I just wandered why these bugs won't attack me outright after I murdered all their buddies. It seems so disrespectful. Perhaps the Thargoids are the flower huggers...
