The Two Cockpit Modes Don't Need to Stop you Using the SC Tools

Having the two cockpit modes (combat and analysis) allows you to use certain tools and stops you from using others (eg. you can't use the wake scanner or interdictor while in analysis mode). You also have another key to toggle between the two modes. At the very least the main difference is the appearance of analysis overlays on planets you've surfaced scanned. This doesn't make sense. It would be better to do away with the two modes limiting the SC tools and just have a button to toggle on/off the overlays - just like toggling on/off the night vision.

Agree 100%.

There's no apparent reason to not allow honking or opening FSS from combat mode for example. It seems like an unnecessary inconvenience.

If the modes had their own - discrete - Fire Groups it might make sense as a way of ensuring you can easily switch between different Combat Fire Groups without accidentally trying to take on an elite Ananconda with a tasty set of scanners half way through the battle ... but, no, all Fire Groups are available in BOTH modes but some of them won’t work until you press ANOTHER button to also change mode. Utterly daft.
