The ultimate space game would be the love child of ED and Eve online

It's just a matter of time before someone, somewhere... makes a twitch version of EVE. Or ED in EVE's setup. I know I would play the hell out of that game.

Some of the complaints regarding E: D stem from the fact that instance population is capped, whereas in EvE it would seem to be uncapped.

One other aspect that bears some thought is the size of the galaxy - there's so much space to conquer, why would anyone bother contesting over a particular system with another Corporation? Just move 1000LY away and carry on....

Moving from a play area of c.8,000 systems to the 400,000,000,000 stars plus other system bodies would probably be very taxing on EvE's galactic database and economic management system.

No it wouldnt. Eve allready is seperated into Regions Market wise. U can not see the market one jump out if it is another Region, so at least that part could be solved by simply adding more nodes.

AFAIK Eve Online's Server structure would in theory support a unlimited ammount of systems because the population density would than also drop and AFAID they are now even able to switch out the node a system is on in realtime to reinforce a system a battle is raging on.
See Asakai as a reference where a spontanous battle took place on a unreinforced node. TIDI was a huge achievement in that regard.

The limits of Eve in terms of systems is more in the part of how big u want to make the servercluster.
