Newcomer / Intro The unbearable grind to engineer modules.

I think I came across a crashed ship once, there were sentries though and when I got close I was warned of tresspassing.

That is not the same kind of site as the crashed Anaconda sites at Orrere or Koli Discii, which just sit there unguarded waiting for you to truck around with your SRV scooping up the mats!

Last year, in the Type 8 update, FDEV buffed sources of engineering materials precisely because they want to improve what you are calling "unbearable grind". The patch notes include:

Increased Material availability/payout at Grade 4/5 farming locations by increasing sources of materials and in some cases payout per source.

These buffed "farming locations" are High Grade Emission signal sources in space for G5 manufactured materials, the Jameson crash site at HIP 12099 1b for G5 encoded materials, and the crashed Anaconda sites mentioned above for G4 raw materials. If you want to go after materials directly, these are the provided locations.

Materials rewards for missions were also dramatically increased.

Wow - grinders really don't like having fun do they :)

Collecting mats has been made super easy - just do missions taking the material reward

If you like running around shooting things and whatnot for NPCs and factions, that is a good solution. If that seems like a grind, the position could be reversed :)

Sounds like a RNG-POI. The one I posted above is a permanent location, no defences, just sweet G4 raw materials to gather. Proverbially sweet. I don't actually recommend eating ruthenium, technetium or any other raw or manufactured material for that matter :D

Have you used Materials Traders, to trade small numbers of the higher grade materials for lots of lower grade materials

Have you used Materials Traders, to trade small numbers of the higher grade materials for lots of lower grade materials?
Recently discovered there are 3 kinds of material traders, I thought there was only one kind. So this makes it easier as I have tons of other mats that I can trade.

For an update I finally got my head around how to effectively obtain materials. It makes a difference knowing the best most effecient ways to go about obtaining what you need. Even seeking out materials on planets and moons has gotten easier as when I deploy the SRV and drive around if I don't get any signal hits within a few mninutes I just get back in the ship and move 3-5K away to another spot. Eventually I find an area rich materials.

Still not convinced by the crashed conda sites? Good for you! Prospecting on planets is a fun game loop, I find, if in moderation.

Oh I just haven’t managed to find a crash site yet. I know there are go to systems to find such easily but none of them are close to me and I figured there must be an equivalent crash site in a nearby system but I haven’t found yet. So I just went out searching for mats as I did before but now I know better not to waste time if a signal source doesn’t come up soon enough go land at another spot. Especially rewarding when you find a nice grouping.

Other than that it’s also finding all three type material traders nearby to make up for what I couldn’t find.

Try landing on a body with volcanism and look for the plumes of smoke and fires. There will be materials at each one of the features.

Also, whenever I land where there is a material trader, I take time to even out my materials so I have roughly the same amount of each material in each category. By “roughly” I mean at least 30 if possible and not more than 100 if possible unless I’m really full of mats and then those numbers just go up.

That way whenever I do engineering, I have plenty of materials and generally do not need to go trading to then come back and finish the upgrades.

Thanks for the tip. Yeah I discovered it’s just best to load up on all mats ahead of time, have plenty of everything that way you never have to make an extra trip to an engineer.

When you have worked out what your favourite blueprint is at a particular engineer there is an option to Pin it that way you can work on modules at most stations without having to visit the engineer.
However when working remotely you won’t increase your access level with that engineer, which might stop you getting to the highest level of the blueprint. Also you can’t add an experimental remotely but need to visit any engineer who you have access to that deals with that blueprint, it doesn’t have to be the one where you pinned the blueprint.

Good to know, thanks
