The Vive discussion Thread

Long time Elite player here with tracking info for my Vive and it due to arrive next week.

Is there a FAQ somewhere on here on the steps to take to get the Vive up and running with Elite?

I currently use the Frontier launcher to play the game, do I need to add the game to Steam for it to work with the Vive or can I simply launch SteamVR and then run the Frontier launcher as normal and then just pick HMD in the settings?

Thanks for any links to FAQ or info you can provide.

Cheers Q

As long as your headset works with SteamVR (and the HTC Vive should), and you've calibrated it in the SteamVR setup, it should work automatically. You can start from the Frontier Launcher and it should work fine. SteamVR will start automatically. At least that's what happens with the Oculus DK2.

Just had to go through HTC support and re-order... when they tried to take the card payment for several thousand people at the same the fraud prevention kicked in and declined them all...

The only good thing is that on the re-order they have put me back in for an April delivery. The person @ HTC was saying 2nd-3rd week of April.

I got a cancellation message that implied I'd cancelled the order, but I'd received an email the day before about problems taking a payment and HTC never got back to me when all I could do was fill in a form online to send them an email. Despite an email first that said payment would be retried or I could pay with PayPal, I received the cancellation email about 30 minutes later. I never got through to anyone at HTC in the UK who could help today as it's now the weekend. A new pre-order puts me back into May- not ' happy... and not sure what I can do when it isn't made clear in any way who you're supposed to speak to in this situation (Digital River Ireland seem to be the 3rd party that have cocked it up). :\

Good luck.

So, if understand this correctly, if I order the HTC Vive now, I'd most likely get it in a few weeks. Right? As opposed to Oculus which is months away. I find that interesting, and am now considering getting the Vive instead, while holding onto my Oculus order....just in case.

I wouldn't expect you to receive it in a "few weeks". I pre-ordered at the beginning of March and eta is May for me.

I'm wondering how significant any wobble in the lighthouse mounting will be for the tracking. It shouldn't affect ED (this season ;)) but may make a difference in other games - think lightweight 2m+ tripods, active/heavy user bouncing around the room, a bit of flex in the floor joists and you might find yourself or the controllers "moving" in strange ways.

I'd think any motion in the lighthouse(s) would be reflected in unwanted motion in-game. The VR software will be expecting the lighthouses to be stationary.

3M have small hook and loop style tapes you can stick to the wall, and pull a tab out to pop them off. It's marketed here down under as "Command Adhesive".

One side sticks to the lighthouse, one side to the wall, simply press together. Its not velcro but uses a similar principle.
Plenty strong enough.
Doesn't pull paint off or plaster, you can pop the lighthouses up or take them down (and you can get the tabs off the wall and the lighthouse if you ever need to).

I have an opportunity to get vive pre right away, for slightly higher price then consumer vive. So question is - does it work with Elite now, how well (considering lack of atw support) and what that about fresnel lens problem - is it more apparent there then in oculus or not?
