The Vive discussion Thread

I'd think any motion in the lighthouse(s) would be reflected in unwanted motion in-game. The VR software will be expecting the lighthouses to be stationary.

Just to confirm this, if someone "bumps" your lighthouse stands, your entire VR world "bumps" as well. The Light house units provide the tracking and are the fixed point from which Vector3 rotations of hands and head are determined. If the lighthouse is unstable the VR is unusable and instant vomit comet.

Did anyone get a shipment announcement yet and which country are you from, in case?

Brisbane Australia, got my tracking info on the 31st. For first wave Australian customers the Vive's arrived in Sydney this morning and some in Sydney are going to the depot to pick them up. Mine will be here in Brisbane on Friday according to my tracking info.

What time did you get your order confirmation? I got mine at 1:13am and still haven't received tracking info. I'm also in Brisbane.

Sounds like a nice first of april subject.... Slowly waving the lighthouse

Mine arrived at 12.22 am orders opened at 12 am for us in QLD & 1am in Sydney.

This is my timeline of how my order progressed after the original order was made and we got the original order details with order number and password.

I got the "It's in the Works" email on the 29th March at 7AM.
Then about 24 hours later payment was taken from my account on the 30th March (no notification from anyone that it happened we just happened to check).
Then a bit over 24 hours after that on the 31st March at 8:25 PM I got the FedEx tracking notification email.

The package arrived in Singapore on Monday the 4th at 7:39 AM and left for Sydney at 2:04 PM
The package was scanned into Sydney at 10 AM Tuesday the 5th and made it through customs at the same time.
Scheduled delivery is for this Friday in Brisbane.

Those that have picked theirs up in Sydney and Perth have had no duty or gst charged which is great.

Is anyone else finding the screen on the Vive to be extremely high contrast, to the point that it's killing all of the details in the blacks? As a quick test, try loading the Docking tutorial and have a look at the front face of the station; for me it's almost completely black with only the bright light sources showing. Also, the interior of the ship in this scene is extremely dark... I can barely make out the orange surface illumination from the glowing HUD panels.

I was thinking of obtaining the head of a retail mannequin. Preferably a really cyber 80s one. My wife thinks a 'Girls World' hair styling toy head would be better. I can't think of anything worse, though, than something which will attract the kids to mess with the Vive more.

Comments in /r/vive on reddit seem to think storing them on a mannequin head will over time stretch the straps. General consensus seems to be to store it in the foam from the box on a flat surface.

Much sharper than the DK2. Default text color no problem reading. Have not had a chance to hit the surface yet, but feels less smooth than the DK2 on 1.3. Apples to oranges as the Vive is 90 Hz with 25% more resolution on my 970 (o/c).

Word is the interleaving reprojection (like async time warp?) isn't optimized yet and may be better to shut it off for now. Yet to try it.

Also, might be the sharpness or IPD, but stars outside look like a texture about 10 feet away instead of infinity focus. Anyone else see this?

So I flew back to UK to collect my rift, but due to the cockups it hasnt even dispatched yet! Just got an email from HTC saying the VIVE will be delivered tomorrow (to parents address up North) but I am in London getting ready to fly back to Saudi tomorrow! Lol

So VIVE arrives before rift but I cant collect either! :p

Feel for you... Can't even have a drink when you're back to console yourself.

Yes, I noticed this as well. I received Rift CV1 a couple of days ago and my Vive today and immediately tried it out with Elite. There is something wrong with the color definition in the Vive in Elite. I feel like I am loosing a lot of detail in the low illumination portion of the image. :( Also, I am not liking the circular artifacts with the godrays. I think I will stick to the Rift for Elite and go with the Vive for the other room-scale games. Also, I am not sure. But I am getting stutter in the Vive when I fly around in supercruise, but I don't with the Rift. Headtracking is always smooth on the Rift, even when the fps drop. Anyone know if the Vive does not have timewarp or something?

Timewarp in VIVE not optimized as is with oculus, so I've read. About the Vive loosing alot of detail and circular artifacts I get that too with my DK2.

You can't possibly be getting the circular artifacts, since that's specifically a result of fresnel lenses with spaced ridges.

Only artifact I've seen with the DK2 lenses, aside from the blurring around the edges, is internal reflections manifesting as a dim, blurry 'ghost' of bright items.

mmm, so initial reports are that the Vive has issues along with the CV1. To be expected really on launch until the bugs are ironed out. Still can't wait for my CV1 this month. :)
