The Wasted Potential of ED

My wife actually likes simple mindless grind, but ED is overall too complex for her tastes. When I was playing on console, she shared the flying on the way to Colonia and Sag A*, stopping occasionally to FSS systems. That's the beauty of console gaming and I do miss stuff like that. She loves mat gathering too.

Yeah sure, if you squint really hard you can make anything seem like a vertical slice. Some must be used to it to the point where they can't see anything else.

I'll bite. The timeframe of any new expansion is dependent on resources which is clear for everyone to see, especially by those who try to tell people that there's no wood in those trees. Putting that aside though, Odyssey laid the groundwork for further updates. I would suggest that atmospheric planets were taken into account when refreshing the codebase to 4.0. The light atmospheric worlds could hint at that aspect.

Ship interiors will happen in due course but I wouldn't want to see them introduced to Elite until the regular game-breaking desync/lag issues that plague Star Citizen get resolved. I mean, you can't guarantee to exit you hangar without getting blown up by lag in that game, let alone workably walk around your moving ship without issues. I'm fine waiting till Frontier can introduce that without those problems that amount to a far greater immersion breaking and generally poor experience that would become an unavoidable and highly offputting factor when trying to do anything in Elite, if implemented like Star Citizen.
You honestly think Elite devs are currently working on ship interiors and are actually coming to this game?

you're in for a real disappointment mate, it's 2023 and they still haven't fixed Odyssey or added any of the stuff that was leaked as part of the Project Watson leak, base building and thargoid ground combat, assuming that's coming, which is much more likely than their skeleton development team designing interiors for 40 gigantic space ships or earth like worlds.

these are the same developers that seeded trillions of planets in a galaxy with just a dozen or two different plant types. if any major content does come at any point, it's years away.

It's part of the original plan. I'm not saying it will happen soon, or at all. Development resources will dictate that. What I won't say is what you want me to, and that's to try to factually say that they won't. You don't know just as much as I don't.

you're in for a real disappointment mate,
Am I? My expectations are set realistically and so far Frontier have implemented a few features that people like you have responded in the exact same manner to. We wait, and we will see. That is all.

We'll see. Frontier won't change things in Odyssey that they have said they won't, but the other things are perfectly plausible to come with Odyssey. The one I might not expect is base-building, if it became a casualty of the delays. The Thargoid Hive is in the game and has an entrance that looks like we will be able to breach at some point, it's also a structure like a Station or a planet, so interiors are very much probable, which would naturally lead to encountering onfoot Thargoids in their natural habitat. Again, we wait and we will see.

So you're saying something similar to me after all. I guess I just do it without the negative doom filter engaged. Maybe you should try it too?

What do you see then?
Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically...
If it makes you feel better, sure, that.

I mean it's great that some telescope botherers built a model of the galaxy so that they can see the dots in the sky slightly bigger, just someone forgot to flesh out the game part.
I wouldn't say 'forgot'; development resources encompasses all mechanics. While there are major outstanding features that need to be added we have what we have until such a time when resources allow for some fleshing out. However, the announced feature overhaul has the potential to flesh out a game part. Maybe provide some suggestions as to what you would like it to be, and how? o7

Iteration could mean the same game or new. Regardless there's much good and many lessons and infinite amounts of feedback to work from. All we can do is enjoy the ride.
I don't see the point in 'new' in the way that I believe you to mean, though correct me if I'm wrong, you refer to an Elite: Dangerous 2? I've made the analogy of Elite being more like Photoshop in its path of development before, and while you can say that there was Photoshop 2, 3, etc.. they were really just version numbers of the main program, exactly like how V4.0 is the new Horizons/Odyssey code base. Looked at it that way, we are already on Elite Dangerous 4.

I have made & supported suggestions multiple times since kickstarter.
FD can't / won't even flesh out and fix the basic stuff that's been hanging around for years - instead we get constantly half baked additions that unbalance all other aspects. They showed their true colours when we had to fight for the basic rewards from the ks campaign that they were happy to brush under the carpet, and even then they delivered the bare minimum they could.

They are incapable of realising the potential of this game and i sincerely hope that they outsource any further versions of elite if they are forthcoming.

I know that you're fairly new, but do keep up old chap.

IMO, they could make so much out of CQC.. Add a lobby and let teams of players compete against each other, or singles against bots. Either with prebuilt ships, but also with their own meta ships. Then add on foot CQC, buggy racing, and maybe even ship canyon racing, etc, etc. Also put it into the game, so that you can fly out to San Tu and find the actual maps to play with your friends.
Letting factions establish teams would be a good thing too.

If she likes ED's minigames, get her to check out Angry Birds - same kettle of fish, might be a bit high octane for her tastes.

Have fun! I hope she becomes a sneaky ninja like you, and a successful pirate!

BTW: Thanks for the stealth videos, I learnt a lot from those.

Her IGN is StealthGirl :D

She's currently doing the tutorials as I watch on, laughing :D She's doing well though. These tutorials are so much better than what we had to deal with in 2014.
