The Waterfowl Winners Club! 🦆 🪿 🦢

Inspired by @Orkan ‘s grey fox club, and @NachoB Golden Cult, I’m making this thread! This thread will be dedicated to any and all waterfowl, which includes:
  1. Screamers
  2. Ducks
  3. Geese
  4. Swans
So any and all of these guys are welcome! As well all know the mute swan 🦢 is currently the only one in game (without mods) hopefully that can be changed!

I hope we will see a duck. Mallard would be a great fit to join the Mute Swan, but I personally would love to see the Mandarin Duck. I have recently saw one in wild, in the middle of Europe, not sure how they got here, but apperently there is around only 30 of them in my country, so I was really lucky.

I would also love to see the Nene. They would be perfect due to their conservation issues.

I propose that each continent gets at least 1 waterfowl:
  • Europe: mute swan
  • Oceania: black swan
  • North America: ruddy duck
  • South America: Muscovy duck
  • Asia: Mandarin duck
  • África: spur-winged goose
Once that happens, them we'll repeat the cycle again (where applicable):
  • Europe: mallard
  • Oceanía: Australian wood duck
  • North America: Nene
  • South America: white-faced whistling duck
  • Asia: harlequin duck
  • África: red-billed teal

Of course, the only logical solution.
It's genius:

We need moaaar.

Ducks: mallard, Muscovy, White faced whistling duck, mandarín duck, wood duck, blue billed duck, king eider, Madagascar real, hooded nerganse, red breasted merganser, Harlequin duck
Swans: black swan, black necked swan
Geese: Canadian goose, nene goose, Arctic goose, Indian runner, barnacle goose, Orinoco goose, ruddy-headed goose
Southern screamer 🤗
How about all of them? Every single waterfowl in existence

While I have everyone’s attention I would like to highlight the guy that really got me going on the waterfowl train: my baby-boy, my special little guy, the white faced whistling duck!

I will still stand by everything I have said before about this species, it is a very flexible duck!
  1. If you want you can place it down inside a little pond. Could still work like other ducks in this regard.
  2. Exotic enough it can work inside a specialized bird house. This is an odd bonus, but hear me out. Most of the birds in Planet Zoo wouldn’t work in a “bird house” type setting. The ostrich, and emu often are housed with other animals. The peafowl, mute swan, flamingo, crane, king penguin, and cassowary are often housed by themselves (peafowl can wander, and we have no other waterfowl for mute swans). The chickens are kept with the other farm animals. That just leaves the African penguin, little blue penguin, and the kiwi. All three could potentially work, though the African penguin can have a standalone habitat and the kiwi is either in a nocturnal house or also kept by themselves. The little blue penguin is perfect for this, and IMO we could use some more small birds in Planet Zoo. Besides the WFWD, we could use the Victoria crowned pigeon, roseate spoonbills, etc.
  3. The most important thing: can work in a tropical house setting. While the cassowary and flamingo can also arguably do this, it wouldn’t be quite the same. The WFWD is perfect for this! Especially because it is native to both South America and Africa. Imagine building for Pygmy hippos and adding this duck to add some diversity to the habitat. Or giving the capybara a feathery swimming buddy.
As of now rant is over.

Well I will say with the news of the JWE3 dlc yesterday that does put a damper on things a bit, though I recognize PZ is it’s own thing independent of what happens to JWE3. PZ usually gets bigger DLCs anyways.

So for us Waterfowl lovers it’s not over until it is over! I’m gonna be a bit positive, with the mute swan rig I dont see how they wouldn’t use it one last time. Especially how Frontier has a habit of doing things their way, I think it’s possible they won’t follow the meta wishlist 100% and we can still get one more of our birds in!

Have hope, it’s not over until it’s over!

Y'all, ruddy ducks
Ruddy is easily my #1 choice for a NA waterfowl species - or hell, my #1 for a NA bird in general. Super cute, super common, and would be great to mix with wood ducks or mallards if we ever got them. I also just saw them the other day, so maybe I have recency bias lol.

Speaking of mixed habitats, a great little combo if we ever get the nēnē would be the koloa maoli. It’s nowhere near super common and thus not one of my first picks, but hey, a girlie can dream for more Polynesian bird species.

I’d also like to shout out the Brazilian teal - which could be great for mixed aviaries with white faced whistling ducks, scarlet ibis, and/or spoonbills - the Muscovy goose (primarily the far more common domestic version, but also the wild version), and the Andean goose - which isn’t too common but is certainly a personal favorite of mine.

I’m getting very angry if we get some boring goose before we get a shoebill, pelican, ibis or other more exotic water bird
