Newcomer / Intro The whole Planet disappeared

No, that is how the game has always worked. The Nav beacon gives you details of the system but not details of the bodies' composition, so no info of what raw elements or of any bio and geo features.

Legacy is just the same (I double-checked that this arvo).

You don't get told of any res sites either - I had not realised that until today in Legacy Horizons.
I know about the Nav beacon, no confusion there. I'm concerned with the FSS after honking. All FSS signals are already discovered, as if I had already completed the FSS mini-game. That happens before I even target the beacon.

Well in a system which you don't have the data for, all the FSS does when you honk is tell you how many bodies there are, opening the FSS screen tells you how many signals are in the system. The only things the FSS "discovers" without doing the tuning and zooming are stellar bodies and things within the passive detection range (30ls). In those systems which your Nav has the data for* (albeit the system appears "unknown" until you arrive) - you don't need to FSS to get the bodies' details and composition but (I think) you need to FSS them to see if there are bio or geo features - that last bit might be wrong.

* i.e. those over a certain population (2million?)

Maybe I am not understanding your issue, sorry.

Normal operation of the FSS will only show a waveform on the slider at the bottom when first opened. All bodies outside of passive detection range will only show as a glowing spot on the main FSS screen. Any within passive range will be a colored circle with the body name next to it.

When I honk in a system with a Nav beacon, the FSS shows all bodies as colored circles on the slider, and all names are there on the main screen. It's as if I already completed the tune and zoom, as soon as I open the FSS. This is occurring in systems I've never visited.

I'll try to make a video and pop it up on my YT later. It's really hard to explain with text.

Sounds like those large population systems I mentioned above. They say on the gal map and nav screens that they are "unknown" but as soon as you arrive, the system is wholly revealed to you. These systems used to be completely visible on the gal map (you could view their system maps) then when they made changes to the exploration mechanics, they became "unknown" until you visited. I can't remember the size of population that determined this, I think it was 2 million but it might have been a lot more.

You can tell when you arrive in one of these systems as you don't get the big blue "discovered" text that you get when arriving at the star.

That makes sense. It seems to do this in every system, but I have seen a few that didn't. Population might just have to be present now.

This makes it extremely difficult to search for biologicals in the bubble, but those are generally not worth the effort anyhow. Thanks for the clarification :)
