NOTE: This thread has nothing to do with Chris Roberts' latest venture into Space Simulation, do not derail this top for that one.
The Wing Commander franchise was my first foray into Space Sims. Back in 1999 I was merely 4 years old, playing computer games like Putt Putt, Spy Fox, and Freddi Fish, when my parents bought several games from a flea market. I only remember two; a Myst game I never got into, and Wing Commander Prophecy. That three disc adventure is what propelled me into my love for Science Fiction, and more importantly, flying space ships. It wasn't until years later that I downloaded Secret Ops for free, and only recently have I been able to play the other games of the series via GOG.
Discuss the Wing Commander games here, be it WC1, WC2, WCIII (Heart of the Tiger), WCIV (Price of Freedom), WCP, or it's spinoffs, Armada, Academy, Arena, Privateer, and Privateer 2. Or even the Saturday morning cartoon, book series, or live-action movie.
