The Zoolympic Games

Firstly re shelters - no go ahead, I don't think those should count as blueprints :)

Secondly - I have exactly the same issue! I always make everything wayyyy to big. Even now that I've really scaled things down as much as I feel I can manage, I still go way overboard! I've decided it's just my style. I like it and I'm sure the animals like it, so everyone else can stuff it and the guests will just have to get thirsty 😂
Ok great this makes me feel better about my supersize zoos and habitats lol. that's great about the shelters. thanks!

wow I've never thought to do this.. I will give this a go when I next build something smaller. What order do you usually build in? I should take all your advice considering how skilled you are at building
Idk i dont really have an order of building i go by :D.
I usually look for inspiration, which in this case was a one of Just Gorons real life inspiration videos that i can really recommend, and just start building lol

if you are still accepting theme ideas I would love something like:
1. evolution and diversity (as so much is about grouping and this could be about putting very different species together)
2. Human's relationship to the natural world (could be highlighting domestication, hunting, culture and myths etc.)

Oooh great ones!

Well, it's touch and go. But managed to make a consistent amount of money enough to work with a loan to make the 2nd segment of the safari ( nowhere near the 1st by the way rofl ).

It is difficult working with franchise, and hard mode at that - guests are more picky, animals are more picky and staff are more picky rofl - but .. with the animals I so far have access to..

Gharials from the last challenge ( well some new some old - currently at 70 in the habitat, mostly babies ) and now 3 sets of animals that also have a 1 male, multiple females setup. Because money is an important factor I am doing things differently here. I am selling all males for cash ( which is good when there's a bunch born together ) and selling all but a handful of females. But .. there is also a breeding cycle system I am using which I don't usually use ( if this works well enough in my regular zoos I may adopt it ). That system is to periodically acquire a new male and untoggle all females in the habitat ( so I know which ones are his ). I then, wait for each adult female to have at least 5 babies, then sell those, replacing them with a younger one not related. Rinse and repeat for each brood of babies until all but a handful are left that aren't related to the male. Then start again.

The gharials are good for this as they are a nice 1k or more value. The other's not as much. But that small cash influx does help keep me afloat enough to put some minor stuff in to keep the guests happy.

My primary influx of cash is from the adoption kits from the info center. So, we don't want those to fill up with customers .. so, I have about 8 counters ( or more - I never counted ) near the main entrance as their first, or last port of call in the zoo. The gharial under cover area now has a gift center area as you enter it with 4 stalls selling various items which is my secondary cash source, with the drink/food areas near the habitat areas handling the guests needs. And, because I have built this zoo in the middle of Africa ( near the Serenteti/Grumeti Nature Reserves area ) they get thirsty alot, so along with the seating/trash can placement along the main road I also have 2 vending machines to handle those immediate thirst needs.

And .. as a side note. My monorail system that literally has one station and goes through all habitats (including the safari habitat that is currently in 2 separate sections ) so far set up, is happily charging $22 per ride, and the guests are happy about it. This brings me in 3k -5k profit a year for that alone. And what is funny they use it to go home, despite the exit literally being down the road for the one and only station on this line rofl.

Well think the brunt of the work is done, and the zoo keepers are paying for the idea I had rofl.
Everything is in my google drive again including the document.

And the final overview image. Not quite what I wanted to do, but seeing as most transport routes are complete loops, my Grumeti River had to be circular rather than straight rofl.

Well done for completing your submission! Bonne chance! Looks like a fun place to visit and take a transport tour around :)

Thanks. Thankfully I have a while before the next challenge. So hopefully I will be able offset the food cost with shop sales and donations rofl.

Updated the document, as I have added a food area on the other side of the habitat and sent a one way suspended gondola ride over to it. The animal sales are helping keeping the numbers in the plus. But not quite enough to cover the 25k yearly food costs ( at level 1 food grade ) between the 2 habitats ( Gharial Riverview and Grumeti Safari ) .

The zookeepers are definitely struggling.to keep these animals fed in their one month visit. I have 5 zoo keepers and am in the process of training them up in the hopes that speedier placements mean less starving animals. I also added a few more vets and told them to visit the habitat every month ( instead of my normal 3 month visits ).
My next visit will involve seeing if I have enough -specific- food items for each animal. Maybe I just don't have enough of those. It would explain why almost all the ostriches had to be sent to the quarantine to be emergency fed.
Until I can get these few species under control, I can't risk adding the others to help liven the habitat further.

Zookeepers still struggling. Seems to be the same 2 zoo keepers doing all the work. I have now got them trained up to level 4 in the hopes that at least the 2 that are working, can traverse the habitat.

Think I will have move all the food items into a more central location and just have toys and stuff on the outskirts. Hopefully the animals will start heading towards the food area when they get hungry and the zookeepers don't have to traverse so far to fill the feeders.

The smaller area - might have worked. Will have to monitor next time around. Picture attached showing the crowds the jeep safari riders will see. The area inside the boat safari area is the feeding area. The outer area is for toys.

I am back into the negatives due to the double salaries for these 7 trained zoo keepers, so checked their work stats and fired all the ones who were idle 80% of the time and working less than 5% and kept the ones who were working much of the time and idle least of the time. Hopefully that will help bring the money back up.

WOW Miss Possum - this is truly spectacular! I'll save my other feedback for the feedback form but really, so stunning and beautifully presented.

Thanks everyone for your submissions so far - this is going to be an exciting round!

Please can I ask everyone to use the template linked in the introduction post to submit their entries? This will save me a lot of time when compiling everything and saves us all a lot of scrolling when we are finding all the entries to score. If you have any difficulty accessing/using it please let me know and I'll find a workaround. Thanks very much for everyone who is already doing so :) much appreciated!
