General / Off-Topic (Theme) Parkitect General Discussion

It's games like these that remind me how much of a POS Unity is. Running a small park 300 people with not much scenery on a GTX760 and the game doesn't get 40 fps when zoomed out. My GPU may be old, but it's not that weak, considering the art style for the game. What can I blame the devs for? They don't control the renderering engine. Too many draw calls, what's the issue here? I know the game is in Early Access, but it can't run THIS poor, can it?

This is why I'm making my own game engine, one that actually utilizes all the power of a GPU. [mad]

That's why it is not really clever to make RCT game with Unity...

Cities Skylines managed to do it pretty ok however! hmm.

The devs of Cities Skylines made two previous city transportation games, Cities In Motion 1 & 2. Parkitect is being made by just a couple of people. They'll figure things out, hang in there guys. [up]

Actually it is three people.

One programmer, one designer, one making sounds and music.

There are some issues, but i trust he will get it done. Though the scrawling, when the park is filled, is a bit annoying at the moment.
I wonder how he will solve the ferris wheel issue. Guests have to make 16 rounds and are sad then.
So i do not build a wheel at the moment.

What i also do like is that if jam-full trashcans, trash or vomit are done the rating does not go up right away, because the guest who "noticed" it does not know.

They have a devblod too:

Yea I totally understand haha It just shows how bad the Unity engine is. It's nothing really against the devs of the game.

Unity is not "bad" as such, it is more to do with the way it is marketed. A lot of people use Unity thinking they can just make any old game with no experience whatsoever in programming and because of this target audience, the way the engine has grown is in a direction towards those people, so it is difficult to make a game as complex as a theme park sim. I can see why small dev teams want to use it, and some great things can be done with it (Cities Skylines for example) but it has it's limitations.

It's both, bad, and it's marketed wrong. If in the hands of those who can modify the source code for their needs its good, but if you're doing that why not just make an engine yourself? Doesn't have the be complex, just abstract the graphics layer, implement some physics and component functionality, and modify it from there, you'll have more control. [yesnod]

If you don't do heavy modification or don't do something nonintensive it seems to just chug. Why give bare bones functionality if those functionalities are terrible?

Unity. Like any tool it's perfectly good for what it is made for. The minute you try to stretch it beyond it's means you get crap. (RCTW). If they Keep Parkitect within the scope of the engine it will be a good game, and so far it looks like they are.

Just like a Wrench. It's great to turn bolts. Makes a crappy hammer. Sure you might get the nail in, but it was a bad experience doing it.

Didn't the old RCT games have this issue? I used to have to set them to 1 rotation just to keep peeps from getting super angry. "I WANT OFF THIS RIDE!!!"

Yeah, Parkitect is better with the Texel Raptor engine.

The new warehouse - depot system is just awsome. Just tested it, because it has gone live today.

Also the change in the hauler system is a nice idea. You can really do a system of supply paths and backlot.
Really wish we will get that all in Planet Coaster too. Also a restroom and a training center where we have to send the entertainers.

Also noticed how nice it is when the guests stay in line when a ride is broken and if you don't repair it they will get sad.

That is so cool. Seems like Parcitect takes out the turns more than any of the new park simulations games in new innovative management gameplay. Especially the transports of goods into the park. [up]
Planet Coaster are yet to see how good the management gameplay will be. Right now it haven't flesh out anything new that an earlier instalment haven't already done.

Yes, I really swallowed my pride and bought the EA of parkitect. I've thought, that I would never buy an Early-Access game but it's such a charming little game and the management functions are really promising...so I really think it is worth supporting it [yesnod] I don't really play it much for now because it has no campaign (and I'm not the sandbox-guy ;) ) but I'm really looking forward to the implementation of scenarios ;)
