There are other games out there....

Still surprised my friend?? Modern youngsters are bunch of Facebook and YouTube addicted crowd. Take a peek at one of them when the McDonald's Wi-Fi is a crap. They cant bear awaiting few seconds longer to refresh their "wall" or whatever they're doing there. Internet also gave them possibility to spill out laud whatever is digesting them inside. Without a respect to other human beeing at the other side of the cable, as they're having so little respect to themselves. Wasting their lives on meaningless affairs all around. Stupid TV shows, wicked celebrities, dozens of trash all aroud. Trash you can create absolutelly nothing out of. They can only copy. Copy this, paste that. Jesus. I'm so affraid about my own offspring...

But as you said yourself. Human's nature isnt changing in general. You can waste your instincts, kill your creativity and become another no-one-special that is being liked by everyone around. Yuck! But there are still many young people around which are the oposite. And I'd love to think the Milky Way A.D. 3302 is a place where at least some of them, having respect to the art as it is, are hanging around. To dive even deeper into their mood, into their feelings, some constructive thoughts while exploring the vastness of our own and the Developer's imagination.

Cheers Commander BlackSpaceCowboy!! :)

Not that I disagree with you. But you have someone to talk to, right?

Making sure you're ok.

We've got far too many forum warriors and far too few in game warriors.

I agree with OP: if you don't actually play the game you need to leave this forum.

i hope this is your last post OP

Thank you!:) And sorry for my grim tone. Indeed I have a beautifull lady by my side who is my true soulmate even we have constantly to learn more and more about each other and the world around. As we would very like to pass our way of seeing things to our future kids. Few friends as well which I talk to live not via some wicked selfies with the lovely beaches in the background;)

And I have Elite Dangerous, a gift from Mr. Braben who seems to have bit of similar sensitiveness to beauty as I do:)

But thank you again!!

I took a 4-5 month break: stopped playing just before Horizons dropped, and came back with Engineers. Have been with ED since premium beta and played it more than any other game - ever. The break served me well, and I'm sure more will come. The break made me (re)appreciate ED when I came back even more. It's currently my main game (again).

fair enough OP, but some people want a game set in the Milky Way without the emphasis on Pew Pew and more on exploration, pray tell, where do people like that go?

High Security systems and Deep Space?

That represents 99.9999998% of the available playing area.

I tried to get back into Crusader Kings II recently. Believe me, if you think any Frontier update has broken this game, you've not played their latest DLC, 'Conclave'.

Yeah, i'm glad i dodged that bullet, after recently having started to play CK II again.

Mind you, in CKII you can turn off individual DLC that you don't like, that's a bit different here. ;)

As for OP, it's good advice. I've already applied that early last year, but return for a while after major updates. Until (perhaps) one day ED manages to grab me enough to keep playing more regularly.

Hasn't happened with 1.6 either, but there's improvement, and i'll keep checking back.

A broad interest in different games and genres helps with not getting too caught up in one particular game. ;)

There's a game which has just been released on Steam, House of the Dying Sun. It's looks abso-fragging-lutely incredible, and has good reviews already. If the Empire in Elite ever needed more atmosphere, this would be it. Check it out if you have a space combat itch to scratch and like stylized graphics (I sure do - hell I'm trying not to imagine what ED would look like with HotDS's art style, but I'm a sucker for those kinds of visuals) :D

I play games for what they are - not what they have to be to satisfy me. That's why I have on and off relationship with ED, and that's completely fine - I don't want to grind it, because it is huge game. It is very hard to justify to sink huge amount of time if you have other interests. Still, I want to get some big ships at some point, so I will look for opportunities.

In a meantime, I play a little of everything. Don't Starve, TF2, Cities Skylines just joined my Steam collection. I am mostly Linux gamer, ED is just sole exception (at least till Wine DX11 support is any good). I religiously played SWTOR (still like it, best theme park MMO for me, KOTOR games also captured me). Beaten Saint Rows IV (Linux port ok-ish, game is fun as hell), Tomb Raider (love new outing)....

I mean I really look for certain "space life" escapism with ED. I never plan to "finish" it. Actually reason why I want to get Anaconda or big passenger ship is passengers and walking around in it. Combat - only if NPC wingmen or friends...

I don't judge, but it feels like that in this time and day too many people try to "squeeze blood out of stone" when playing game. They don't play the game, but they try to game the game. Are we so obsessed to find optimum results in games because they basically doesn't work like that in real life (because of chaos theory)? Interesting. Evolution created this inperfect mind which tries to find best way in everything.

This is a unique community as far as gaming forums go.
I don't think I've ever seen so many people openly discourage other people from playing a game if they don't agree with the hive mind.

There are different aspect to the game, if you're not up to grinding out the engineers. And I've seen lots of people gear up and leave the bubble. Curious though, if they will be out classed upon their return.... Time will tell.

Sadly the mechanics follow through.

My 400 yr Reformed Roman Empire fell apart with the changes in Conclave.
