I'm due to unlock Marco Qwent tomorrow. All I need is one more modular terminal which I will be rewarded with once I have delivered some cargo. And then I will use some of my 70 specialised legacy firmwares mashing a g1 mod on a throwaway sidewinder. The whole thing has been a grind of epic proportions. I've enjoyed unlocking all the other engineers, but not Marco Qwent.
But here's the thing, if Marco Qwent actually offered anything better than the other engineers do then it wouldn't have been a grind. Qwent doesn't do anything at grade 5. There would have been a reward for doing it. As it is, it's just something to get out the way which is why I'm prepared to apply a g1 mod repeatedly until I get an invite from Palin. If Qwent modded something that none of the other engineers do then I would do the usual route of g1, g2, g3, g4 then g5.
The only reason I started unlocking Qwent was because I really want Palin's grade 5 dirty drives.
If there's no reward at the end of it but it's just something you need to get through in order to continue with the game then it's a grind. There's loads of other stuff I want to do in Elite which I would prefer to be doing. I want to buy a second Anaconda and mod it for ultimate jump range and go exploring again. I want to get special effects on the beam lasers and frag cannons. This will take a lot of work but at least I'll get a sense of reward from doing so and something to show for it. I might not manage to get the special effects weapons that I want but at least there is a chance each time that I might roll something good. That's what keeps me playing. There's no chance of getting anything from unlocking and increasing rep with Qwent and the Sirius Corp.
