"There is no Nova Imperium. There is only the Empire"

From my experience many humans have difficulties when it comes to learn from mistakes others made. Look at history, people make the same mistakes somebody did before them all the time, it's basically the main reason for history.

In the case of just killing a traitor, most observers/bystanders will probably laugh at the stupidity of the dead man and then do the same thing thinking that they are way to clever that this could happen to them.

That's why educational show trials have been invented.
Not to solve the problem of the misguided person who thought treason might be a good idea, but to solve the problem of others who might be inclined to do think that a change of leadership might be a good idea by preventing them getting the idea that a change of leadership might be a good idea in the first place.

A show of trail does no good when it doesnt fix the problem. Better to take it up from its roots

The whole point of a show trial is to solve a problem with a fixed outcome and in addition to that teach the populace a very valuable lesson. And no, "don't commit treason" is not the lesson to be learned.

Killing the traitors just solves one problem and nothing more.

Killing the traitors shows people not to rebel or you will be next. Federation did the same with the Empire.

God Petraeus is worthless. Who cared about the imperator? Nobody. The one person he had to kill to solve the whole mess was Hadrian and instead he decided “eh close enough” and no scoped some old man. Unless he sees some way of using Hadrian to endear himself more to the emperor and is trying to slide into those DM’s.

The original imperator was the route of the problem before. 'Hadrian" is the new problem. Wont be long before Hadrian is taken care of.

Those that perceive the butchering of Senators as "just rule of Imperial Law" might be very wrong. In fact -- I might've been wrong too.

Frontier's current plot isn't about destabilizing the Empire - in fact, it's about the opposite! Hadrian, by Imperial Law, has the right to the throne and to rule the Empire; his right superseding Arissa's and Aisling's by virtue of being of male lineage from the previous Emperor.
I'm assuming the Senators that sided with Nova Imperium already did EXTENSIVE checking on lineage and DNA - you don't get to be a Senator by being an impulsive idiot.

If Hadrian doesn't get the Throne, then the basic rule of Law in the Empire is dead.
The Nova Imperium plot-line isn't about destabilizing the Empire due to Hadrian appearing -- it's about keeping the Empire IN TACT and WHOLE.

If Hadrian get offed, then that very Imperial Law those "pro slaughter" posters are glorifying here is null and void because at it's core it got voided by denying the rightful heir to assume his role of Emperor.
And as a result of that you just might see the Empire disintegrate into fiefdoms.

The very thing the Empire was before and is now getting disintegrated IS the old decentralized system. A fiefdom is given by the ruler to subjects, neither the old decentralized NOR the targeted centralized empire do that. The power in the Empire always came from below, checking the power that stands above in a strict but flexible hierarchical structure of clients and patrons supporting senators that vote on laws and deal with the Emperors whims.

If Alissa wins, any warlords and corporate "fiefdoms" which the traditionalists around Lady Torval like will die out. The rotten corporate culture that undermines the patronages is the only thing close to a fiefdom in the empire.

You think the empire will disintegrate because...the emperor is a woman?

Once someone is made the emperor it doesn’t matter if their is someone else who comes forward with a better claim because they missed their chance.

The only ways Hadrian has any shot at the throne is if A. Arissa dies and even then Aisling would end up emperor (most likely) or B. Arissa abdicated and she is unlikely to do that.

Also his claim to the throne is pretty tenuous. He’d be like 5th in line (at best) and it wouldn’t even be a discussion if he didn’t have a Y chromosome.

Also his supporters are mostly dead.

Wouldn't be so dismissive.. all it takes is for a few high placed Senators to start working the inside track.. but, all in all, you are right. The Emperor won't abdicate, and even if she did, or died, there are others in front. Essentially, his 'line' is secondary.

Tbf, the Empire was based on a 'no girls club' ethos, till FDev retconned it with a small throwaway bit of text after the fact.

Kaeso Mordanticus, the captured leader of isolationist group Nova Imperium, has been brought before the Imperial Senate, with unexpected results.

Political journalist Cassia Carvalho was at the scene:

“Imperator Mordanticus was led into Senate House in shackles but still defiant. All rose as Emperor Arissa Lavigny-Duval entered, attended by Senator Denton Patreus. The Emperor and Patreus approached Mordanticus silently, whereupon Patreus executed the Imperator with his personal sidearm.”

“Suddenly, the Imperial Guard opened fire, gunning down senators Pal Vespasian and Eloise Winterstone, and others who had supported the isolationist cause.”

“Once the initial shock had subsided, the Emperor stood over the Imperator’s body. In a clear voice she announced: ‘There is no Nova Imperium. There is only the Empire.’”

“I have since heard reports of mass arrests and further public executions across Capitol. The rumour is that Patreus placed agents among Nova Imperium strongholds, which are now being eliminated from within. This may be the start of an Empire-wide purge.”

***************

TL;DR - Stay loyal to the Empire. Or suffer the consequences. [where is it]

Long live the alliance!

First, please excuse me for not indulging in some hap-hazard roleplay in this topic.

Now it's cool that fdev try and keep some sort of story going. At the moment they're doing something with the Empire I guess.
Problem is; what's it to us? Can we do something? Can we engage? Influence the storyline?

Well I guess I'll just be moving along then :(

(I love playing the game, but the storyline isn 't really doing anything for me)

Im sure we have some sort of influence in it as they give us a choice to participate in the cgs but its all up to Fdev in the end.

About the only reason that the Federation and the Alliance have the correct political system!
