There's Evil People Out There...

... And I'm looking for some like minded people to help protect what little good is left of the galaxy.
Let me tell you why I'm making this little group of good-hearted people. The community even to help the Apalar system is the first one that I ever joined; I almost dropped 2 mil of my own hard earned credits on a new Type-6, (which I aptly nicknamed "Beast of Burden" but that's beside the point) and I was super excited to do real trading for a good cause. All was well at first and I got a couple hundred tons of cargo in before I noticed something very inspiring. Of course the station was full of players but what caught my attention was the local chat. People were talking about how the system was clear of any pirates and that they would destroy any of them trying to mess with us peaceful traders (mind you that trading is a rare thing for me to do as I mostly do bounty hunting myself). And of course I had no choice but to take their word on it. Sure enough, they were telling the truth; the rest of my night was spent trading and I got over 350 tons of cargo in before I stopped for the night. Today I come online, naively expecting the same outcome as yesterday and being taken by surprise; the system was totally infested with pirates and scoundrels. It got so bad, that I couldn't go more than 20 seconds without being interdicted by some ambitious pirate. It was a miracle if I could even make it into the station to begin with. I eventually gave up and went back to my combat-ready cobra. But she can only handle so much; on top of a very beefy fer-de-lance patrolling the system, the pirates were in wings with a deadly combination of clippers and pythons. These weren't even pirates anymore; these were outright bullies. They need to be taught a lesson and I plan to do that by atomizing their ships with them in em. But I can't do it alone. I need a group of good people to help me on my scourge of evil. And it can't be just me in a wing, oh no, this is a group effort. Our crusade will never be achieved with just a handful of ships, we need a fleet.
Please, do this out of the goodness of your hearts, and in the knowledge that the galaxy will be a better place with your effort... And for those who need more of an incentive, there's always money to be made in bounty hunting; I should know, I've been doing it damn near my whole time on this game...

Come on, it's time to clean house.

If it's too much, drop to Solo.

Would love to see you stay, but don't force yourself if you feel that you're not enjoying the game anymore by staying in Open.

Edit:

Thanks for calling me evil.

Hello SubAtomicCC,

Well I blame the bounty hunters not the pirates! Clearly the traders are in open, I would sort of expect the pirates to be "attracted" to systems with traders in open -community goals etc. Strange term I know, but its the pirates job!

Clearly there were bounty hunters in the system, attracted by a sense of obligation to protect the traders, an apparent hatred of pirates and probably hoping player bounties are higher than NPCs!

The problem is the risk/reward for the bounty hunter is not quite working out. Pirates seem to be quite well organised ... in wings or sometimes out of wing but supporting each other, and the bounties are frequently not that much better than NPCs (pirates like to control their bounty level, by you know not actually just killing everyone). From the forums, it appears it is a better risk/reward proposition to reset 13 times, place a needle in a doll of David Braben and then farm in a High Res site. Few bounty hunters develop a reason to increase risk for reward, as you have done. The act of traders being in open improves reward for the pirates.

I do think they should give some reward to escorts in CG by the way as part of the CG or through the mission system such as kill X pirates, not even sure that would help, just get loads of bounty hunters ignoring PvP and taking out the NPC pirates.

Good luck in your quest .... ummm, bit busy at the moment ..... got this res site I need to go to (13 times apparently).

Simon

I admire people taking the initiative to organize to help protect systems. It always made things more interesting to me when the white-knights showed up to "protect" all of those sideys/eagles/vipers in the starter systems. Limited as it is, player interaction is one of the more interesting parts of this game.

I also admire people who can use the ENTER key, though.

And I was wondering why so few earned my admiration throughout my piracy career...

They seem to be more familiar with the Alt and F4 keys...

And the Tab key, of course, while being chased by a Clipper...

Hmm, do not trust, do not trust - the signature gives it away.

You say you are harmless Mr wolf, I bet you are at least "mostly harmless" and have at least a 400Cr bounty! Gonna take you on in my Adder.

Sorry, could not resist the Mostly Harmless gag, then the post got out of hand. Not going to try and take you on in an Adder, I do not even own an Adder, what I am trying to say is "please do not kill me!"

as somebody who frequently hangs out in cg systems as a 'bounty hunter', i do it for the pvp, certainly not the money, and i agree with the op's post whole heartedly. dropping to solo is NOT THE ANSWER. that simply breaks the point of community play as far as i can see.

pirate cmdrs, on the whole, are a good bunch of players - roll playing, being fair (not killing), and taking on board the risk of the profession without complaining when they're attacked or resorting to c logging etc. it's also very true that they are mostly very well organised and move in wings. im only in a vulture so i tend to hunt the stragglers or the ones who maybe carrying damage coming out of a fight, but it is up to us to rally against them and be as well organised and face them in our own wings. this is what it's all about! team up and get out there!

Problem is as some have alluded to there is no real money in PvP bounty hunting. It is far too easy to reduce/lose a bounty; just buy a cheap sidey and get a friend to kill you and claim the bounty.

For Bounty Hunters res sites with their constant stream of sacrificial lambs are a much better bet.

If FD want more player interactions of this nature the rewards need to match the risk.

if inflicted loses came out of your pocket on death whether by cmdr or npc and the bounty being a fixed percentage of said fine, say 25%. the only way to game it would be to not die, this way people who want pvp get the same as people who go after unarmed traders for the jollys + a potential nice chunk of credits

If these people are really making a mess all over your carpet - just play in Solo for a bit.

no ofcourse not , OP is right. make a group and attack those players , kick them out. Fight the good fight.

so easy , oh ok , i just play in my own little bubble.

Op , im like 7500ly out otherwise i pm ya

Yep its the age old problem that pirating is totally and utterly broken. (Sorry but its true).

-Pirates almost never get paid.
-There's no way of pirating NPC's without combat (limpets or shooting cargo hatch).
-Pirate payouts are practically 0 even when they do get paid so there's no pirates out there for the money.
-Inherent distrust on both sides leads to broken ships fairly quickly especially with language barriers and since some players lack knowledge of comms system.
-Wings (Imo) broke the game a bit since even the best player in the best ship will struggle against 2 average players in high end ships making wings of pirates essential for their success.
-Pirates can accrue crazy bounties with almost 0 in game consequences. I'm in favour of anyone with above a 1mil bounty having to pay 30% insurance instead of 5% or something, add more risk to their game if they kill people..
-(As mentioned above) bounty hunters only ever go after player pirates for the interaction since the profits they make of pirates are almost always either minimal or lost before they can be redeemed.

Having played a lot I can say that there were more people asking for cargo a while back (pre-1.3) than there are now. All I seem to find nowadays is "We don't like you... Boom!".

Bad luck to the OP, I hear what you're saying about the big ships being out there, but to be honest I wouldn't mind a 1v1 with an FDL, all they ever seem to fly is 3 & 4 wings though...

Hmmm I play in open play and have never come across another human player since beta...I am not even sure if you guys are not just some AI set up to give the impression that there are other human players...

Head to community goal systems or hang around the Lave cluster. Open players seem to cluster somewhat :p
