Newcomer / Intro THERMAL OVERLOAD

Which hardware do I need to upgrade in order to stop getting thermal overload on my Beam Lasers??

Also, does it fix itself after a while or do I have to get it repaired somewhere??

Try to stop firing before they overload. If you do fire to long and overload, yes just wait like 5-15 seconds and they should come back just fine.

So do they just fix themselves after a few mins of not firing?

Here is what to do:

Hit the button to retract your hardpoints. As soon as they begin retracting hit it again to deploy your hardpoints. This brings them back online rather quickly.

To avoid going into thermal overload do not fire them when their power bar is empty.

A power distributor upgrade will improve your weapon up time, but some weapons are so power hungry that your ship is never going to be able to keep them firing nonstop.

I have been in a couple of encounters and received thermal overloads.... While running turrets. Turrets are not supposed to cause your ship to overheat. Since they are automatic, they are supposed specifically NOT cause the overheating or weapon damange. I think something has changed recently.

Turrets generate heat same as all weapons, they just draw less power from the weapons capacitor than fixed or gimbals weapons.

Cool, didn't know I could deplete the C3 beams in my Vulture and then quickly re-energize by hitting "U" twice.. Nice, thanks

It doesn't re-energize them, the power bars will be very low, it just gets them out of thermal overload in a hurry. Good if you want to be able to squeeze off a quick shot or two before the power bar completely fills (I think the time to full and available is the same whether you leave them in overload or retract/deploy).

Think of it as an override rather than a trick.

I fully understand that. The issue is, that because they are automatic, they are supposed to have built in features to prevent damage. Overheating results in damage...

Thanks for clarifying that. Still good tip though. Sometimes they can take quite a while to come back around on their own after you over shot them.
