I'm sure forcing PvE players in their trade ships in open will decrease the number of gank videos because of reasons.

These gankers .... gotta love 'em. "I gank because of the forum posts, I got so sick of it, I decided to take it out on everything that moves" or "I has no content, so I am forced to gank your honour. Nothing I can do about it".
It's the amount of responsibility these fellers accept for their own actions that makes me trust them when they say: "If I had content, I wouldn't gank. Honest!".

Plus you read how much fun ganking is to them. Gankers will be gankers. It's a given.

Thats true, I personally dont gank becsuse there is no content, but because I like to mine salt and this pathetic community is full of it.

Now, that has nothing to do with each other, many people are not orginized salt miners that belong to a salt mining group like myself. They just go to the CG and shoot whoever because there is nothing else for them to do. Those are the ones that are on the fence, and they need an outlet otherwise, well, salt.

You are a seasoned professional. I'm more of what you could call a "gifted amateur."

Im still trying to figure out how to bind a chat that says "Please direct any gratuities or positive comments for this gank to messrs Robert, River & AA!"

I have even nastier message that I send when they are at 2% hull, which I credit HP for originality.

For that to work Autohotkey is your friend.

I also use it for pip macros on my right stick, its absolutely briliant and simple tool.

Eight months isn't bad then. I'll have gotten years out of the game in that case. My money's worth for sure! Still, that's only if you're right, which is only guaranteed in your own mind. I personally am of the firm belief that David Braben himself is so anti-griefer that there isn't a chance in hell that you're right, but time will tell. I'm old, patient, and can hold the "I told you so" for a really long time.

I have given up on trying to pin a definition on the word griefing.

I got fed up explaining to people that by playing in open mode, they were consenting to being shot at or killed for any (or no) reason at all.

And with such tools as the mode system and block feature, I don't think it is possible to be "griefed" in the proper sense of the word.
Because at any time we can remove any person(s) from our game or jump to another mode for a rest / chill.

I've just accepted now that is a general term used by most to explain unwanted damage to their ship.
Even seen folks claim NPCs have "griefed" them from time to time, that makes me smile.

I don't think it is a case of DBOBE being "anti griefer".
I think it is more that he knows how annoying it can be when people just want to play the game without others constantly interrupting.

He said himself that he cannot play in open mode, due to the pew pew crowd all wanting to shoot him.
So he knows how it feels to want to paly the game but not want to interact with randoms all the time.

Agree with you about open. Once you click open, you're accepting any and all interactions. Disagree about DBOBE though. He's made it plain over the years that the three modes are indeed his solution to griefing. I can't be griefed in this game because by design, I always have the option to not play with the griefers. I'm fond of that system, and no matter what 90's thinks, it's not going away.

There was a video knocking about where DBOBE was asked about "griefing" and his first response was that the players can "police" themselves as "griefers" would have bounties others will want to collect.
So I personally don't feel the mode system was specifically for anti "griefing", that is just a secondary use of the mode system.

I also doubt that Frontier would remove the mode system. That is just wishful thinking from some folks.
However, Frontier have had 4 events that were locked to open mode - so some kind of incentive is always a possibility.
Now if that incentive was to turn off player to player damage, then I'd play open mode all the time ;)

Goose SWG is gone now isn't it.... it hemorrhaged after SOE pulled a 90's style game "evolution". I can't believe as how tired I am that I sat here and read through all that along with the "griefers" patting themselves on the back and telling us that not giving into their demands is the reason they grief... I'm sorry but I am not swallowing that excrement. If you want to feed yourself that malarkey and have it come out of your ears as you believe it go right ahead, but don't expect the rest of us to.

And remember how proudly you proclaimed your griefing as you whine about FDev not instituting real PVP changes that give it meaning to the game... for you can blame no one but yourself. You pulled the trigger on this but the gun wasn't aimed at us... you hit yourself in the foot.

Nonesense, griefing is in the DNA of this game, look at how open is constructed, no safe zones, no friendly fire filters, kill anyone anywhere unless they docked. Thats like griefing 101.

Griefing (unbalnced player killing) and pvp content are not mutually exclusive.

I didnt say Galaxies was still with us. What I did say is that the game did have a massive change in personality, which runs counter to what the person Im quoting stated. Its important as well, for every person who was angered by those changes, there was one who was happy and the game continued for quite a few more years after those changes, with some looking fondly enough back on them that theyre playing on NGE EMU servers.

Im a little lost due to your broad generalisations in the hopes of getting a rise out of someone. Is this aimed at me?

Poppycock.

The game has freedom of choice. If you choose to spend your time trying to make others miserable (aka "griefing") then that decision is purely down to you.

Elite: Dangerous is set up so we can all make a personal choice on how to play and whom to play with.
Don't try and hide behind that rubbish blaming the game for what you decided to do.

Of course, it is about freedom of choice.
And it is a bad game design when you have CHOICE to directly sacrifice your game expirience for performance per time unit

Easy equation:

1 profit - dealing with red hollow triangles = 1 profit.

Is this equation valid? Is not CHOICE here as clear as it can be?

This game has set of goals built-in. Getting worse game experience in ED equals to getting to them faster.
I know that good game experience is a vague parameter. Some people do not like extremal sports, I know it.
But dealing with Open also means spending WAY more time and effort for the same result, as well as risking the loss of your progress. Dodging systems where RHTs might be STILL results in more time spent and less return, so there is nothing to argue about. It is a plain fact. If you want to say that you can get same result per time unit with some activity in Open as well as Solo, you need KNOWLEDGE how to do it first. You do not need it in Solo.

It is not even entierly about the topic, it concerns all other activities related to acquiring bigger ships and engineering them.
Game declines to account the quality of your effort at all. As long as you keep working this conveyor belt, you will get the same reward per time unit.

This is the main flaw in ED. And efforts yielding the same result in Open and other game modes are of the same sort as well.

You resist to acknowledge this because most of you PvE players here are casual PvE players.
You do not want to get better in this game, and you are totally fine with the current state of things where it is completely unnecessary.

I do not blame you. It is a computer game, and we are grown-up people. But this situation is HIGHLY unfair to those who want to improve, yet receives no feedback for doing so.

Even if it is not the case, you still decline to recognize effort of people who do their stuff in the Open mode.

Speak for yourself. I'm a 45 year old kid.

Can you take the hollier than thou attitude to the PvP section please? :)
