Things are orbiting.. me?

I dropped out of supercruise at a USS, and stumbled upon a bunch of "ancient artifacts", whatever they might be. (Hopefully something valuable.)
Cargo scoop deployed.. approaching.. and, nope. The targeted artifact apparently started orbiting.. me?

The floating items started drifting starboard relative to me, for some reason. They seemed to orbit me if i got close to them. Every time i rotated, the items changed direction as well.
Is this is a bug, or did i suddenly become supermassive? (It would be the best fat joke ever!)

I recorded a couple of clips from the event, but since this is a newbie forum account, I can't post actual youtube links.
The youtube video ID's are: HKvuF26aaKw and JdgEnD0plxk - would appreciate if anyone could post actual links for me. (youtube dot com slash watch?v=ID)

...kinds of creepy, gotta say. :D

Looks to me like you had your lateral thrusters firing, and that was causing you to drift left. Notice even when you throttle down the speedo still says 7 m/s - that readout includes thrust in any direction. You cna also tell because even when you stop rotating or thrusting fore/aft, you can still hear the engines firing. Stopping completely will be more silent.

Not sure what your control setup is like, but make sure you bind keys for lateral/vertical thrusters and they're not accidentally firing unintentionally.

What wiseguy said seems to ring true, especially if you look at the glare of thrusters on the screen and you notice on the right side the glare persists for a while

anikaiful; thanks for linking :)

Jim; upon reviewing the videos... you're probably right, and I probably just spent an hour recording and complaining about a problem caused by a faulty deadzone setting for my 360 controller sticks. To top it off, the artifacts were of course gone when i logged back in, so I can't confirm for sure.
Something new to learn every day. Thanks :-D

Your Cargo hatch is not directly in front of you.... Looking at the first video, the cargo scanner is showing a red object just right of centre, and as you move forward (at 7) it passes on your right. The trick is to ignore what the object looks like out of the windscreen, and concentrate on your cargo scanner. keep the object in the centre as you approach.

When I looked I saw that the objects in the scanner didn't move relative to each other but you did so yep dead zone time.
