Things that i sincerly miss in Planet Zoo (and to some degree Planet Coaster)

I would love hotels - with rooms that the guests can use and also when they look out over a themed experience with animals and plants (and count to their viewing pleasure and excitement) - would add so much to the game - like a huge hunting lodge with wooden beams, fireplaces, big usable gift shops, clothes shops/boutiques, restaurants, pools and other backstage amenity tours.

Can you elaborate on what ‘the genetics actually mean something?. What effect / mechanics would you like them to have beyond how they work now?
Ah, for example; better color variation tied to the genetics. Um. Immunity better connected to illness (example: it should cost money to take animals to the vets (I don't think it currently does?), and animals with low immunity should both get sick more often and cost more to treat. If breeding were more robust, fertility would mean more. Possibly, more potential color variations in animals, which only work if certian levels of research are unlocked, etc.

I do agree with you on the immunity based genetics system. I also would like animals to get sick randomly instead of it onlybeing coupled to welfare, as would also be the case in real life.

The color variation part I don't really get though. What more needs to be added in terms of genetics? Like, it's already connected, no?

I personally also don't really agree with more color variation (and that's coming from someone who started his ZT2 modding career by doing variants 🥲). Like, yes, I do think there are some more "special" variants to be added like a golden tabby tiger, a king cheetah, a black flamingo. Some animals that have no variations might need a few; but overall I think the subtle take Frontier has so far really works best. It's not like you can really see that much color variation in animals in zoos, only certain species really have them.

In Europe, there are no hotels in zoos either.
Edit: At least non I know of. But there are Safari-Parks with overnight offers. But that are theme parks, no zoos. A zoo ("Zoological Garden") is the more "serious" thing. ;) A zoo is more for keeping species alive and to educate people to love nature and to aquire knowledge about the animals shown.
But perhaps we are to America-/Europe-centered. There are a lot more zoos in the world, where everything might be a lot different.
Pairi Daiza and Hagenbeck would have a word with you at least ;) Honestly, sleeping in one of the special rooms in Pairi Daiza is currently one of my goals.

Personally I'd prefer Hotels over Playgrounds. Might be because I currently build Amity and it would fit perfectly. Might also be, because even as a kid I didn't care at all about playgrounds in zoos. Playgrounds where an off-zoo activity for me, as I was much more interested in the animals. My mom keeps telling me how, when I was still in the stroller, I always took a nap when we reached the playground.

But honestly my main reason is: I can't see Planco people using that stuff. Even in Planet Coaster they just sit around in rides at the end of the day. And climbing kids etc. would cost so much animation work, that I'd much rather see them invest in animal to offspring interactions between animals.
Hotels, on the other hand, would be another form of income for the zoo and could very well function like the restaurant blackbox or the toilets with no or not much additional extra animation work.

Yup. A lot of animation work and a lot of performance I’d guess - they’d have to totally rework the way guests operate.

Yes, and that is seriously not worth it for me. Not in the slightest. Quite the opposite. I'm perfectly fine with implied play grounds.
Do kids even interact much different from adults ingame now? Or are they just not showing some animations. Because the game would have to differ between different types of guests even, to define if they use playgrounds or not. Take that with 2000 guests in a zoo.... no, thank you.

Hagenbeck would have a word with you at least
The hotel there is by the zoo not inside the zoo, as far as I know (never was interested in a zoo-hotel at all, so maybe I missed it when visiting Hagenbeck) - but nevertheless: Maybe there are some hotels actually inside zoos in Europe - but it's not a "normal thing" in Europe, but an exeption. But who cares? I just wrote that, because "Europeans" were "accused" of having hotels in zoos normally and that Frontier generally gives in to us.:p
There are hotels in zoos in the rest of the world, I suspect ;). I really don't mind getting hotels in PZ (haven't to build them), but for me it would be a waste of developmenttime. I would rather have more animals and more zoo related building stuff (general props like brooms, rakes, pitchforks, buckets, feeders, boxes, chests (more hoses!)) and backstage building pieces (like transport boxes and other stuff like that) what is still missing. To my mind, there is already much too much focus on guests and their needs in the game - I don't want to play "Planet Guest".

Restaurants, sure I'll give that to you. But restaurants, that's a no from me. Like, hotels are not needed in Planet Zoo, I would consider that a "waste" of an update feature. If a player is building a realistic American zoo, which I would say is quite a few people, and no American zoos have hotels. Don't start saying Animal Kingdom Lodge, I'm talking Bronx Zoo, Zoo Miami, Cincinnati Zoo, etc. For theme parks, sure I guess that is part of the experience in certain cases.

This is just another example of how a European-based company favors Europe because well, their in Europe! But for us Americans, we kinda shake our heads about some of this stuff. This was especially the case for Planet Coaster as most rides were European-based, if that makes sense, so it was weird. I hope this is making sense to at least someone. The most apparent thing in Planet Zoo to me at least is the ONE CAR MONORAIL, PLEASE FRONTIER FIX THIS!!! MULTIPLE-CAR MONORAIL TRAINS!!!
i don't know of any zoos in germany that have a hotel.

While I don’t desperately want hotels, they might work for “zoo snooze” type events - a few zoos have them here (Australia). It’s a thing where people (mostly kids and their parents) camp at the zoo for a night. I would be surprised if this wasn’t a thing elsewhere?

It most certainly is a thing all across the world, and has been a thing for more than decade now. Zoos actually integrating rooms/hotels (Whatever you want to call it really) into their zoo domain is rather "new" but honestly not that new either. It's like something that popped up about 5 years ago and are just getting more and more common these days.

IDK (not directed at you here EM), but I don't see why there would be a reason against it. If it's been part of zoo culture for over a decade, then I think it's more than logical to add it to a game that's called Planet Zoo. 🤷‍♂️

I'll second the call for spontaneous sickness in the animals, I'd like poor immunity to have more serious consequences and frankly I would like animals to have a greater chance of dying that isn't about welfare. There is currently no real jeopardy and I honestly don't think I have had a single animal die of anything except old age in the entire game. I no longer bother with quarantine just to try to artificially introduce a bit more risk! As long as it was an optional setting I think it would quite easily add a new layer of management and some spontaneity.

I had the chance to finally spend a night in Pairi Daiza for the first time last november. With view on the Siberian Tigers. It was wonderful. It's quite expensive but definitely worth it IMO.
