Things we wanted, but did not get with Odyssey

[ Lots and lots of making sense ]

That's precisely why I said I want to believe... But we as in this forum's community had endless discussions about the unexplored potential for this game, so much so that it made me hate the word "potential" used in context of a game, any game :p. Of course not because the discussions but because said "unrealised potential" almost never sees the light of actual implementation. No Man's Sky is a positive example of tapping into unrealised potential, but these are few and far between. Many great ideas were put forth during these "slim years", sadly the development time went elsewhere. I get it, they're a business, and these are for making money... and with them being publicly traded, even more so. The sad realisation for me is I can't name a single company that went for public trading actually made things better for the customers instead of trying to rake cash with every scummy way possible [looking at you Activision and EA].

Unless some miracle happened at management level and they continue working on Elite in full force again, and not launching Odyssey and going into slumber for another 3-5 years:

where was I? Oh yes:
VR support for on foot sections

new ships

I'd say new CLASSIC ships from Frontier: Elite II. All older players know how it ended up in Frontier: First Encounters with many ugly and weird vessels that never should happend but they did anyway (Wyvern Explorer for example).
So: eagle long range fighter, viper mk I, panther clipper, cobra mk I, boa frieghter, tiger trader, lion trader, puma clipper, krait mk I, moray starboat, gecko, constrictor, maybe some airfighters like osprey, falcon, hawk, kestrel (as launched fighters), perhaps some ships from FFE, like imperial explorer, saker mk III, merlin, harris fighter, osprey X...

A fix:
  • megaship/installation hacking
  • research limpet that fails to retreive thargoid tissue samples due to some collision issue

These are broken since a year, the first one has been reported since a year and is on top5 on issue tracker...

Just making a list of things that will not come with the expansion that a significant part of the playerbase wanted.
If I missed anything significant, please post and I'll add.

-Terrain overhangs and caves (confirmed not in expansion)
-Weather (seems unlikely from the info we have)
-Ship interiors (confirmed not in expansion)
-EVA possibilities (seems unlikely from the info we have)
-NPC crewmates (confirmed not in expansion)
-HUD customization (confirmed not in expansion)
-Third person gameplay (confirmed not in expansion)
-Planet surface mining (confirmed not in expansion)
Things Frontier wanted from me but won't be getting: $$$

+1 from me....Check my sig!

While golgot seems to think that due to perceptions they cannot add VR 3D head look on foot without hand controllers and inverse kinematics, Frontier have said they won't do VR on foot until it matches the cockpit VR experience, which is... VR 3D headlook. So my opinion is that the VR 3D headlook code is already in the game, so they should simply apply that code to on foot sections as well. If they are worried about nausea triggers, retain VR Virtual Flatscreen on HMD as an option, and look to things like blackout and reduced headshake that they have in the game already.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it but: another SRV. And not just a variant with altered stats or weapons, but a completely new one. Either something that walks, something that hovers like a skimmer, or something with a caterpillar track drive - anything that isn't restricted to the driving model of a regular car, can turn on the spot, and ideally also move sideways, is more stable in difficult terrain, and might actually be fun to use in combat.

Sorry, didn't realise that everyone is supposed to be positive and happy about Odyssey, when what is promised is just SO underwhelming to a large number of people.

And still no fully working console version... with or without Odyssey.

you don't have to. and you're right, in all likelihood it's going to be a mediocre update with content only tangentially related to the elite core experience. people forget it's just a dlc, not a full game. i'm just waiting for the improved planet rendering and i'm not even sure it will be enabled in flight, let alone in orbit. all this fuss will be for nothing, i'm just worried if after the fiasco there is any form of continuity ...

but lots of starved fans crave for content, any content. for them this is the next big thing, and this is clearly a thread to reinforce these expectations and make the while pass.

frustration is going to be huge, there are indeed epically fun times ahead on this forum, but for now there is no need to poke in their eyes either.

people forget it's just a dlc, not a full game.

You say that but it's the same sort of price as a full game and is pitched as a completely different experience.

I'm certainly of the opinion that at the moment it's looking like a pretty sparse game content wise

Landing in a ELW city or spaceport and walking around.

Landing my ship in a space port and on top of a skyscrapper in a city on a ELW.

Landing in the south 40 of somebody's farm on a ELW and asking for directions.

For some the glass is half full, for others half empty. Which one are you?
I can be the third one: Super-hyper pessimist!
Glass is half full... of urine! ;)
:D

Or fourth one: A super demanding one!
Glass should be full. Someone owe me a half glass of water!
:D

Or just me: There is a lot of space in glass for whiskey! :)
