Things you like in 2.1

Since every other thread seems to be a whinge fest, I thought I'd post a few things I like in 2.1

Smuggling mission - they are now spot on IMO, the balance between getting interdicted either by pirates or the feds is now just right. Before the level of interdictions was absolutely crazy and became annoying, but now it seems to be at a level that keeps you on your toes without being infuriating.

Flight Control chatter - I must admit, I was worried that after a while it would get boring and annoying, but once again the sound design team have done good. The variety and dynamic nature of the chatter adds greatly to the atmosphere of the game.

Engineers bases - I love the detail that has been put into the new game assets.

Avatars - Again, very impressed that FD have been able to make procedurally generated faces, etc.

Anyway - I'm sure there are plenty of other things I've yet to discover.

Bookmarks! - They make trading much more efficient and I'm more willing to find trade routes beyond 20 light years.

There are all kinds of cool things with 2.1

I'm really enjoying it. Can't say that I've availed myself of the engineers yet, but I'm sure I will someday. For now, I'm just enjoying the new mission system and other job opportunities.

Bookmarks
Nice high paying long range missions that don't involve "involuntary passengers"
Improved graphics on planetary surfaces
NPC opponents that make me sweat a bit.

Bookmarks and Docking/undocking voice comms.

The rest you can keep... OP NPCs and Engineers that are only a grind system to keep the player busy so content can be worked on, and done in the worst fashion by making you treasure hunt items to grind only for it to be a slot machine gamble.
Someone at FD needs to start thinking things through more! :(

Everything, except material\component\firmware RNG too random needs to be concentrated per source, more directional way of searching.

- audio chatter
- bookmarks
- the posiibility to mod my most beloved ships, like my DBE, so i "can" fly it for everything
- enhanced thrusters, overall: speed!
- surface salvage missions
- the way BGS influences economy and mission availability - never spent so much time looking for states of a system i fly through
- like the handcrafted engineer bases

Missions
Branching missions
State influence on missions
State influence on commodity prices
The new Retreat state
USS'
Mission-specific placement of USS'
Faction Avatars
Flight Control voices
Comms chatter
Much improved NPC AI
Engineer bases
Ship system modding
Nav beacons providing system data
Improved Local News at stations
Bookmarks
Detailed planetary surface textures
Improved planetary rings
Security response linked to system security level
Outfitting
Missiles
Mines

That's all I can think of at the moment :)

I like virtually everything except for a few horrible things I already mentioned elsewhere.

I love the improved AI.
I love the new Engineers bases.
I love the chatter near stations and the voice comms. I think those add so much to the atmosphere of the game that it is beyond belief.
I even like the engineer modding and do not mind a certain amount of RNG (it's other stuff I like to see improved like the absurd grinding of 200 lavian brandy or some of the weird material grind).
I love the improved visuals... the much, much better looking planets and ships, the wonderful asteroid rings.
I love the new outfitting screen.
I love the bookmarking.
I love the added engineer portraits and the new mission visuals and the branching missions.
I love the way USS work now.
I love being able to scan the beacons
I love the presence of AI ships on planets
and I must be forgetting a myriad of other things FD added and improved.

Overall 2.1 is a superb addition to the game for me. I would not want to play the game without it.

I can't say I've found anything to dislike due to not spending a great deal of time playing. I turned to the dark side a few weeks back and BF4 is taking up more time. However, most of Frogfriend's list applies. Even something simple like radio chatter makes the game feel a little more alive. I've yet to try missiles, but I've an Imperial Eagle fitted pre-patch with missile pylons I'm itching to try soon.

I was thinking about going "Full missile" on my Vulture for a laugh .. (I know, you NEVER go "Full Missile") might be costly but also could be hilarious !

Bookmarks- if we're not ever going to get any kind of autopilot this is the next best thing. Makes it easier to do trade routes with less clicks and even allows me to just generally jot down interesting systems/bases. I only wish there was a way to easily access them on the left screen without going into Galaxy Map

Mission system- Oh man is this ever better, while there are still dry spells, it's still much more likely for me to find work and it's a lot more immersive and clear overall. This was sorely needed and a welcome addition

Unidentified Signal scanning- Oh frell yes. I can't begin to count the number of times I was hunting pirates and ended up finding that blasted T9 trader wanting Tech goods instead... Besides gameplay addition, this easily adds to immersion too.

I think the improved graphics are brilliant and the station chatter is a great addition. Overall 2.1 is a superb update.

However, I don't like the fact that I can't cruise around unmolested whilst supping wine (lost my last Python that way). I'm now having to pay attention and stay mainly sober :D.

There is plenty to love in this expansion, even with the bugs.

  1. New Huge and Large Weapons - My Corvette loves it's 2 Huge Pulse lasers and 1 Large Multicannon.
  2. Graphic improvements galore:
    • New foggy atmosphere inside Starports; no mail slot "pop in" of the interior
    • improved hangar bays - especially planet side and at Engineer bases
    • improved interior surfaces of player ships - seems like all got buffed, but Gutamaya ships are the most notable (shiny/glossy sheen)
    • improved lighting
    • improved hyperspace/witchspace effect (and it no longer clips on my Corvette bridge!)
    • improved asteroid field graphics - whole field pops in at once, instead of in sections, which was weird
    • more detailed planetary surfaces
    • SRV leaves tracks!
  3. Engineer mods - do I really have to say more (down side is the grind and lack of storage, but we're highlighting the positive here)
  4. Flight control chatter!!!! I love it. I only wish they would wait 1-2 seconds longer before initiating contact, as often the first communication is drowned out by engines decelerating for cruise.
I particularly love how they pay attention to what you're doing and respond accordingly.
Note: They can be sassy at times. The female controller with the U.S. southern accent once said to me after I docked (trade ship with docking computer) "Your ship is docked now commander. Perhaps you can learn to fly it yourself someday."
  5. New Mission system - has some bugs, but is a vast improvement. Also, better rewards make it a viable option instead of trade, trade, trade for money.
  6. New AI - NPCs (with the exception of FDS, FAS, FGS - which were more dangerous than average ships in 2.0) now not dumb as rocks. There still needs to be some tweaking done, and something done about exceptionally high amount of interdictions for a lot of players (myself included). But the improved AI itself is a positive.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I know I'm forgetting something... or several somethings.

Yeah, I have to be careful as well regarding what I do due to my fibromyalgia. If I'm fatigued/tired, I have to my best to avoid anything combat related... which is kind of hard right now, but I'm sure the devs are working on it.

I certainly can't risk trading when tired as I sometime did in 2.0. Do you know how embarrassing it is to miss/overshoot the station five times in a row, because you keep nodding off after looping around - nod off when down to 5 MM and suddenly wake up when I've overshot. I got interdicted on the 5th miss and I didn't blame that NPC one bit. lol

I like...
-- The harder AI sometimes. Other times it's annoying because I just want to kill them and get on with my life. q:3 At some point I'm going to have to get out of the courier and back into a ship without ridiculous agility and then what am I going to do? ???
-- Loot. Even if I don't know what to do with it I like scooping up debris. And scanning random things just because.
-- Engineer mods... kinda. Having some of them need commodities is annoying. Having some of them need commodities you can't get easily is super-annoying.
-- The new mission board, but only when it actually loads. x.x
-- The lighting improvements.
-- Tracking down a mission USS at <specific planet> although I wish it would show up sooner/right away when you get to that planet.
-- Mining missions for things/rings you wouldn't normally go to. I'm not going to fill up my hold with water but having a few missions that make me do a small amount of goal-oriented mining is more fun than PPP. Not horribly profitable though.
