Think I just sold Elite to my repair guy

So I'm having work done to my house atm (though it's pointless now cause I'm moving to Japan. Thanks Trump...) and while he was working he made mention of my setup for my rig. Basically saying how he liked the cockpit look and all the LEDs. He did asked if I played Star Citizen. I laughed and said no. I said I mostly play Elite: Dangerous. He had no idea what that was. So naturally I booted it up. (granted for the fist time in days on my main account)

Did a quick run in my Cobra from Adams Market to Eotienses B 1, got interdicted on they way and fought the guy. Showed off Combat and planetary landings. Then did the thing. You know the thing. The galaxy map. And told him you can go to all of those stars. He didn't believe. So I logged in on my laptop with my second account and showed him where I was there. 5000 LYs ways heading for Colonia.

Needless to say he's now a fan and is going to pick it up once he gets off work. So yeah. Think I just make another sell for the game.

Just thought I'd share that since I've kinda been giving Elite a hard time lately.

Nice one Momoka, especially considering you've been on the vodka all day following 'that Trump situation'. :D

Didja tell him about the months-behind release schedule, and the bugs, and the repetitive and uncreative mission structure as well?

This right here is why I have such a ████ed up relationship with this game. It's unique. SC is run by a group of scam artists, and Rogue System is promising, but not anywhere near there yet.

There's another post on top of the boards right now about loving to hate it, and it's dead on. ED is truly an amazing game, but it could be so much more if the main issues were fixed instead of work around after work around. Knowing that you have something good, that could be about a hojillion times better, but isn't because of silly reasons that boil down to bad priorities...

It's unspeakably infuriating. I don't think the folks at Frontier quite understand this level of frustration because they're the developers, who by their own admission barely actually play the game. They don't have the mental foundation to even begin to understand that frustration.

I want the game ED could be with the slightest bit of effort.

Actually, yes. I didn't sugar coat it. The delay no but the rest yeah. Still he was more or less sold on the very idea of the game. We talked about what Elite is for a good while.

And also, yes I have been drinking vodka all day. Granted it takes quite a lot of vodka to throw me off my game. (speaking of...)

That pretty much sums me up right now. Half the forums are starting to realize just how bad the core mechanics are, while the other half pretend the bugs are features. I had a similar relationship with War Thunder; it had the potential to be an amazing game, but update after update the developers just made it into more and more of a pay-to-win cash grab. Obviously, Frontier haven't taken that route, but it's the same thing; I can see how Elite could be a fantastic game with tons of depth, but, unfortunately, Frontier don't actually play the game. For some reason. It's like handing in a paper without proofreading it. They have no idea if it's actually fun to play.

Devs who don't play their own game.

And we wonder why things are so screwed up.

She probably left out that he lost a bet which meant he had to immerse himself in the bugfest theatre of her choosing for a spell---so mentioning it was not required and was fully expected and probably very braced for it too.

The only question is...what WAS that bet he lost!

Well, I don't wonder, but it's not like anything's going to change soon. If the devs had to earn their own money ingame, and actually put time in to it - well, I can dream.

As a reference, do you remember how mad Ed got during the Engineers release livestream, trying to get a good roll and failing 20+ times? And that was only using fish. Just goes to show that they really barely play it.

Be good to hear about anyone else 'selling' ED to unexpected people (i.e. not family or friends).

I gotta admit, it was pretty random. And the fact he knew so much about SC but never heard of Elite just didn't sit well with me so I had to just show him the game

This is a forum, there are no facts just opinion, rhetoric, venom, bile and occasionally some content worth reading.

Forums are a great way to study how people behave when they believe themselves anonymous and outside the results of their behaviour.

All that said Elite Dangerous is above and beyond any game I have ever played no other game has given me so much entertainment for so little outlay, currently we stand at 5.2 pence per hour and getting cheaper every day.

Beat That.
