Thinking of buying a DK2 - Still working with ED?

Been looking at some cheaper (than you know, big money) Oculus Rift DK2 headsets on Ebay and I was wondering if they still are supported by ED, both now and in the up coming patch.

Also, will I be okay with a GTX 970?

Thanks in advance.

You're fine with a DK2 - it's not officially supported by Oculus any more, but mine worked fine in all the games I tried (those that don't require Touch controllers) and was great in ED. I don't know about the GTX 970 definitively, but a quick google of comparison with RX 480 (VR capable) sees it hold its own (and more in a lot of cases), so I would suggest you stop sitting on that fence and go get one!

I would not get a DK2. There are already games that require all sorts of hackery, or do not work at all on the DK2 anymore.

Getting DK2 for ED only is alone worth it. I prefer it to vive and i have both.
And not forget Alien Isolation - for this game alone is also worth it, if you didnt play it - this is your chance with DK2 - it has native support for DK2 and is one of the most impressive games for VR ever made.

I'm thinking of doing exactly the same. What I'm worried about is whether I have to learn to code (please no, I just want to play) in case it gets 'supported out' (for want of a better word). I've seen some good prices and I'm rocking a 970 too.

gtx 970 is what I have. No issues running ED on a DK2 with that.

Same here, running DK2 on my TV/Media PC which has i7 3770/GTX970SC & 16gb Ram, runs great in VR High (Suggest VR Medium if you do a lot of planet stuff) I'm a space monkey myself though. CQC is a blast in VR by the way :)

You really should try to consider the current £400 offer which includes the touch controllers and you are getting a brand new item.

I believe the 970 is quite capable or running ED as I don't think the headset performance has altered much in capability and requirements.

If you are looking for cheaper then I would not buy a older set from Ebay unless it's v. cheap.

But I think with DK2 and ED 'growing up' together I can't see you having issues making the two work together.

so best of luck

For my first 400 hours of VR it was Elite in a DK2 on a 970 and it works great.

Now im on a Vive and i sometimes miss how light the DK2 is.

Dk2 works
But with the current price of the rift bundle I wouldn't recommend it.

Especially when considering how much the touch controllers add to the vr experience.

Very true, but it's a shame that ED does not really support them except for allowing you to use then as a split x-box style controller.

But for a general VR experience with the new apps for the Rift, (some still free) the touch controllers are well worth having.

and the combined bundle at the current price it's a no-brainer.

The Vive is nearly twice the price. Some will argue it's better, but is it really twice as good?

However, If you see Vive come down a lot in price, I think it might be the slightly better item (except for weight).

Right at this moment, for a limited budget, the Rift Is the winner

Sure ED is fine with a dk2 technically speaking.

But there are more than just elite for vr, and more coming.
And the tracked controllers are really the only functional way to interact with the virtual world.

I also have the vive, but not using it as much at all. It may have better tracking and
slightly wider fov. But with two or at least three cameras on the rift, the room tracking is more than good enough for half the price.
And the vive would need a room greater than 4m×4m to win out.
And for the fov the focused area on the vive lenses are significantly lower than the rift, the rift is slightly more picky when finding the sweetspot, but when you do you can actually than the vive ever would.

Now don't get me wrong I have nothing against the vive but with this price difference I would shake my head against anyone getting one.

I don't know about you but I sure don't have that kind of open space in my apartment, cause I like enjoy sleeping in a bed etc.
