This game could do with an all-modes, Galaxy wide Purge!

Yeah I know, it won't happen. But FD could do a rollback and re-introduce the bug which saw System Authority ships fighting each other! :D

This problem is that it needs to be gated. The newbie on their first day, wowed by their first jump to a new system isn't going to be impressed by immediately being thrust into a war they can't hope to survive without some experience, so it needs to be gated.

The Thargoid stuff is gated by distance - if the newbie wants to jump straight in & start attacking the more challenging content they can, as soon as they have figured out where it is & how to get there.

and repair limpets for a day. Oh and kill healies with fire!

Go all Thanos. On a certain day, 50% of all players will have *all* of their achievements wiped, and will respawn in a Sidewinder, with 1000 credits, in a starter system.

The other 50% will be max boosted xP, with every Engineer, Guardian, Thargoid, PowerPlay, etc achievement, access to S.D., all permit-locked systems, every ship, max engineer materials, and 50B credits.

I'd take those odds.

Well, IMO, the first film was great. The 2nd? Crap. The 3rd was a return to form. Its now a TV series on Amazon who didn't think it was rubbish. :D

I’d love a galaxy-wide purge... of Universal Cartographics. Say, a Thargoid viral strike makes our current database and systems go kaput, and now we have to use the new system scanning stuff and the original vision for exploration as laid out in the DDF.

The bubble systems would all get reconnected pretty quickly, but I’m sure there would be some epic adventures for those out in the black and those who set out on rescue missions.

(Yes, I’m still​ disappointed that the whole galaxy was ‘unlocked’ when the game launched :) )

I love it even more if as you flew into a system, the Far God popped in SC, forced you out and got his minions to burn the heresy out of you. Proper, unadulterated space Cthulhu wanting to tear your soul apart- the sort of experience you need AX underwear for.

I wouldn't say gated (which is like "you must be this tall to go on this ride") so much as given easily understood signage to avoid systems and situations that are possibly out if their league ("warning: bear country").

the signs are already there, but it's not easy for a noob to figure it out until it's too late.

I have no idea what films and series you are talking about, but I do remember the idea from being in an SF book I read many years ago - I'm trying to remember which one that was...

I would totally support this and participate with one caveat: all CDMRs must be forced into Open for the duration. Otherwise it’s not a true Purge.
