This is how escape pods should look like

Do you think we'll be able to purchase skins for our pods. I'm not too keen on the grey colour, I'd prefer orange or green. :D

Personally, I like the idea of the cockpit separating and becoming the escape pod. Doesn't the B1 bomber (not sure if the A or B variant), have that type of system?

However, if the ejection seat concept is the direction in which the developers are going, then I would suggest that a more acceptable mechanic would be for the pilot to be frozen (suspended animation), thereby eliminating/minimizing the need for oxygen. The pilot would then be resuscitated once back on the station (a whole 5 seconds after ejecting :D ).

I'm no expert on the lore here, but I think there's a "Remlok" thingie that's part of your suit (?) and deploys a survival mask with life support. And your flight suit is an actual space suit.
Yeah, it deploys a survival bubble/suit and then starts broadcasting a broadband distress signal that cuts into local video broadcasts, as the Dark Wheel novella put it "in space, everyone hears you scream".

... and they're definitely familiar with the RemLok mask because it's one of the advertisers on the floating hologram things outside Azeban City.

I like that you can get scar's and look like you have been through crap.
Hence the separated esc pod

ld be more believable (IMO) if the Cmdr survival was based on something like cloned bodies you kept in storage at the last station you visited. There would be a device in your helmet that constantly mapped your memories, and at the instant of ship death it beamed a FTL data dump to the clone back at the station. That version of you dies with the ship, another version wakes up back at the station. If nothing else, it would It would give a little more meaning to discussions here when "killing" other players comes up. :)

I like this idea! I also like the idea of piloting any form of escape capsule back to dock though. Perhaps in a minimalist kind of way, that's an early form of EVA?

I guess if your "basically dead" body is fired back to base by capsule, for immediate recloning before your body goes cold; that could account for your loss of consciousness before apparently respawning in the station as your mind is reloaded into a new body (on ice)?

I don't think it's currently a plan to be able to "scoop" ejecting piolts for slaves. but the "mind storage" idea back at a medi-station would mean your old body is basically a soul-less meat-sack, ripe for sale into slavery? You (the player) can then start again, but the pirate could still have the fun of selling your zombified form to the labour camps?

Anyway ...

I don't really think there's the technology in Elite to have endless bodies and similar things. It's just a lore thing, not a gameplay thing, but still.

Without some sort of canopy or shield, that frontier concept art looks plain weird.

There is a canopy, but it I invisible. Something like the shields which keeps the air in. The 8 minutes is because that is how long the battery lasts as there is enough air for quite a bit longer. This is just my imagining and is probably wrong.

The first three B-1A bombers made had the entire cockpit eject, the fourth had regular ejection seats. All the B-1Bs had regular ejection seats afaik.

Does this mean we really fly back in our escape pods to the next station or do we just get a black screen and spawn in the nearest station?
