PvP THIS is how you deal with Mine layer Cobra Gankers.

Bingo. I'm not gonna call the aggressors in these events the "dictors" or other such nonsense. The current terms we have tell the listener precisely what happened. Its all the same to me. I've seen this tactic first hand, with the major difference here being he's gone lone wolf with it. For all we know he was a ganker that got left high and dry by his ganker friends.
they are pretty much always alone... I probably fought these builds 5 or 6 times so far and they were always just lone wolf guys like me... 1on1 is never a gank…

Maybe this is something new, but my experience is these guys always work in a wing, which is always a gank.

In practice, you are only going to be attacked by small ships with mines if you are in a very large vessel (...)

Well not always true... I have been attacked by one of these in my FAS. By the time his wing buddies arrived, I had been able to land a few decent hits on him, but obviously the guy knew what he was doing. He got my shield generator down to 12% before I could get out of there...

I see no reason to frown on this strategy, it seems to be highly efficient and for sure does take some skill. When he interdicted me, I thought well it's a Cobra, how hard can that be. Man, was I wrong! :D

What's a FAS need a shield generator for?

Anyway, there are certainly exceptions to every rule of thumb, but in general, even the best mine layers will have serious difficulty using them against smaller more agile vessels, and the vast majority that aren't so good with them have to restrict their targets accordingly.

Surprises are fun and educational though.

<grin> You are right, after this episode I wondered what good it is to have shields when they are so easy to counter, and developed my boat to fly shieldless. Kinda loved it for the freed up pips, however in conflict zones it is still practical to have some Bi-weaves. There is still a decent hull tank underneath

Btw, I had a chat with the Cobra guy thereafter, and he told me he usually goes for Corvettes and the like, so this is where things come round circle. Well, taking on a player driven Corvette in a Cobra definitely takes some balls, and for sure more skill than holding down the trigger and let the turrets do the work. Don't get me wrong, I think both strategies are perfectly valid in their own right.

"and for sure more skill than holding down the trigger and let the turrets do the work"

You see, this bugs me.

There are literally hundreds of videos of that cobra build on youtube destroying large ships and making it look EASY.
Yet this video shows he didnt even manage to take my shields down once. A flawless run for me. Any credit? Of course not. As that takes no skill. ..Right?

Laughable.

And to add to that..people see a cobra against a vette and immdiatley think "man, that cobra pilot has balls" No - they dont. That cobra is enginered and outfitted specifically to take down big ships and exploit the slower turning/manouvering.An educated ED player knows it was him that had the advantage - not me. This was not a chance encounter. While my vette, if -were being honest, was outfitted for a has res - I did not outfit my vette specifically to destroy smaller ships and i did not go looking for a cobra pilot to gank - thats his game not mine. But yeah...Big balls cobra..big balls.

What a joke!!

Lastly, and this is the last thing ill say on the matter, UNLESS you do the following :

Get a Vette. Use my loadout. Go to a CG .Wait for the cobra gankers with mines to show.(will take 1 minute) Upload a video of you showing me how easy it is to do what i did.

You do that - and sure. Ill have a conversation with you about skill.

Anything else im just going to ignore.

For obvious reasons.

I explicitly did not mean to debase your skills, I also wrote that I myself barely escaped such an encounter. And that was in a PvP build FAS.

Peace? [smile]

Its rather easy folks.

Enjoy.

Don't have to, your first post already told me it is easy.

I propose a sub forum entitled ‘Bazmesons legacy’, kind of like Alec Turner’s best of.... where subjects like this should be placed.

It’s comedy, thanks for the laugh kite.
